We're headed to Santa Fe in September. I've been looking at Santa Fe youtube video's sporadically over the last several days. This is absolutely the best one I've seen so far. keep up the good work.
My favorite place!!! I was planning on moving here (from Kansas City) right before covid hit. Unfortunately, all my plans got put on hold. And the place I was going to buy has since sold. But, I really appreciate you doing this tour and uploading it. I loved seeing the city square again. I can't be there now so this is the next best thing. I needed my Santa Fe fix today. Thank you :)
Definitely one of those overlooked destinations by way of unknowing ,for surely this region has a very rich history,in terms of substance and culture!!!!!!Traditional art specific to the American Southwest found here and cherished by those who appreciate such creativity and design.
New mexico is honestly more my taste than arizona. Only problem is the job situation in NM. It's hard to find a decent job in my field unless you work for NMSU or work in cannabis industry. I'm considering both. Cost of living similar to Mississippi. Great video as always man. Dang, you've been across the southern border and Eastern seaboard of the US. that's an awesome trip. Long way, don't think people not from US understand how far that is.
umm nm is way more expensive than Mississippi, I wouldn't go that far buddy. NM is more like Florida or Georgia. abq itself is more expensive than MS. the average house there is like $250k
Amen to that... I’m from Chicago and traveled a lot, I have never seen a more beautiful view than looking down at las cruces with the organ mountains glowing pink at sunset... beats every big city out west for the view
JEJEJ that little stream you saw is actually what was once known as the SANTA FE RIVER. When i was a child in the 70's that river was raging. it was beautiful . As you saw it is now what many would call a stream. it has been this way for .. many years at least over 20 years. There was a time a few years ago it had rained and snowed quite a bit and once again Santa Fe, had its river. The river comes from the Sangre de Cristos and flows through downtown Santa Fe into the Rio Grande. Oh yeah. most people don/t realize what i am about to share with you , But Gallup NM is a HUGE HUGE HUGE arts city. Soe might say its art culture is larger than Santa Fe. I have been working in the artistry field for over 30 years . But have been around fine art my whole life. I don/t know where you are from , but if you ever get the chance to come this way again. To a quick trip to Gallup. There are some great art shows that run the whole month of August . And every 2nd weekend or ... well i/lm not sure but every other mystery day they hold inter-tribal indian ceremonial .. I seriously recommend you check out the tiny little town with the HUGE ARts t Culture. oh one more thing those "Santa Fe Style" Homes you mention are more commonly called . known as "Adobe Style actually many of those are actually adobe, mud and straw, a technique learned from the natives here.. keeps warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Santa Fe ,must keep with in the city ordinance . No buildings higher than 3 stores.. or so many ft. most structures m must keep the original style .. which is that of the Native .. adobe. .. Yeah we have kept many Native AMerican and the Spanish customs. Santa Fe has tight ordinances that state how the homes at least a certain percentage of them Must keep to the original Native architecture style ( adobe) the building Must not exceed 3 or 4 stories high which derives from the (Spanish conquistadors) just We must keep our yard with xeriscape gardens. Those are just a few. But i thought i'd let correct some of your information because you like the town so much i thought these little bits would make you LOVE IT even more. , THE CITY DIFFERENT .. yup enough to come back and visit Gallup . jejeje after all it does add a little more beauty to our Land of Enchantment .. stay safe Island Hopper
Jeff, looks like your making your way out west. When you get to S.D. if you go to P.B., look for football Paul. He's this 71 year old guy who coaches everybody how to throw and catch. And he's hilarious. He sets up on the beach at Thomas st. He's an icon down there. I'd look for ya but stuck in TX till Nov.
SF is my favorite 'chill' city. It's a great base to explore northern NM like Taos and Red Rivet. I have to eat at Tomasita's every time I'm there, the local food is so good. Surprised you didn't mention Meow Wolf, which has invigorated the city with youth and new way of thinking about art. The Santa Fe Opera House or Lensic Theatre are two amazing places to catch a performance at. The Jean Cocteau Theatre always has good writers popping up or an art house film showing. Fort Marcy Park is also home to the annual Burning of Zozobra, (a 50ft+ marionette) now in it's 96th year. As someone who moved to NM from LA, I agree the nightlife isn't NY or Atlanta, but then again, some of us just like things a little more chill. Like the spas at Ojo Caliente or 10,000 Waves 😎
I wish Santa Fe was underrated/underappreciated. If it was, maybe I could actually afford to live there. It is far from cheap. There are a ton of million dollar plus homes in Santa Fe.
jeje i hear that .. It is unfortunate that with the influx of people from others state moving to Santa Fe, =building their large homes or moving into the old neighborhood and doing major remodel g that is forcing our 3- 4- 5- 6 generation families out . Its sad I mean in my opinion.. So in relation to this our town is becoming an older population. I will say , I grew up there i did/t like it . I just wanted out. well i am now in my 50;s and returned . I MUST say I LOVE IT . Its beautiful , quiet, calm artsy and quirky . I am a performance artist.. jeje but as i reminisce through the years.. again i am saddened to see our long time .. long time multi generation families gone.
If i was visiting and had to choose between the El Dorado Hotel , La Fonda or La Posada . e i'd do half at La Fonda (1820's) and half at La Posada. (1870s mayb 80's.) i;ve worked a all 3 jeje.. La Posada has an infamous history ... Dig it ,

If you're going north into CO hit Crested Butte or Breckinridge. Jackson Hole gets sweet as the cold settles in. The restaurant choices there are above par and their slow season is winter so prices go down when summer yellowstone visitors leave.
Santa Fe is a lovely city. Great museums, nice restaurants. People are better educated here than in Albuquerque and it's a cleaner city. It is disappointing that the houses sell for $l00,000 more than an average priced home in Albuquerque. I love La Fonda's restaurant.
"fix your audio levels,,,geez." - Ok, you got me. My Bad. Point taken. Please, let me explain: I have cheap small speakers on my old desk top. Actually I agree with you. When I made that video, that GoPro was not as good as the new camera I have now. So I agree with you. But since 2 years ago when that video was made there has been an improvement to the sound.
I love the camera work. Its like a 1st person shooter. I keep expecting a right arm holding a weapon while left arm inserts a magasine and slaps into the well.
Brick & wooden mill work were incorporated and are now showcased in NM's newer Govt buildings!! The European styled church's are Neo Gothic & Romanesque FYI!! Yes, Santa Fe has style, but there is no Santa Fe style per say..
New Mexico is the 5th largest state (by area) and the driest. When I rode a train out west from NO to LA, this was one of the states I rolled through. Lots of cacti. It has no major sports teams, but is third when it comes to crude oil production (after I assume Texas and Cali). Its a weird state. Without oil, nat gas, and the .fedgov (military bases and labs) it would be nothing, really.
You missed out. Northern NM is stunning as is parts of the south. Just east of Albuquerque is an Alpine forest with the world's second largest tram ride and the world's largest cottonwood forest runs along the Rio Grande through the heart of ABQ. Abq has one of the best urban bike routes of any city. A simple train trip through dry country could never show you all the ancient ruins like Acoma or Chaco where travelers from as far away as the Aztec capital came to trade. Your train trip would be like walking down Bourbon Street in NO and think that's all there was to see in Louisiana.
The quality of the video is great, you missed something very important maybe the most important, the Native American selling their Jewelry across the street from the plaza Sant Fe, what a pity.
At the Palace of the Governors, missed saying anything about the 19 pueblos of the state or the statue of Kateri , first native saint, at the cathedral.
Yeah, half of the city is built on adobe architecture and the rest is built mainly on an Islamic Moorish style. Pretty normal given the fact that spaniards landed there first.

Noel Ebbert I'm surprised there is a cannabis industry in NM? It is a beautiful city. It amazing the different feel the various cities have.
New Mexico has a good vibe too it, Its more more mellow feeling and wide open spaces. Reminds me a bit of Norther Arizona.
