When I was a youngster , 50's and 60's , the story told about the miracle staircase was that when the church was nearly complete they could not figure out anything but a ladder to reach the choir loft , which was not good for nuns in habits . An old itenerent carpenter happened by on his burro and offered to build something . It was done quickly with no one watching and he slipped away without a word or asking for his pay and when the sisters went in they found the staircase . There were no screws , nails or glue , only wooden pegs holding together the seven inner and nine outer stringers . Absolutely love that I knew Santa Fe , Taos , Chimayo , Los Alamos , Old Town Albuquerque and that whole area back then . Different world now . Great video , enjoying these videos from my old stomping grounds .
New subby! Your page was recommended to us by Mike Galgano. Love your opening song, narration, choice of music, and all of the footage you captured in this video! 👍🏽
Thank you for setting aside a day to travel back once again to the historic part of Santa Fe. That incredible and unmistakeable architecture is just beautiful. Your walking tours are always awesome, filled with fun facts, history and scenes that evoke the feeling of having visited myself. The original classic music was a nice touch, too. It was great to have a bit of time during our trip to watch this enjoyable episode. Keep it up!
My wife and I were there in Santa Fe in May. We also went to Taos and Bandelier. Such a beautiful part of the country. Thanks for all you do Robert. My wife and I always watch your videos before we travel to get info and inspiration.
Wow! Back in the early 90s when we lived there, there were a lot more vendors at the Palace. I think the lack of $$ is hitting everywhere, it's a very expensive town. Yes, real peppers. I miss the clouds and the sunsets, most beautiful of anywhere.
We love the Santa Fe architecture. In fact, we had our Wickenburg house built in that style and is painted the same reddish color. Thanks for the video, Robert.
I agree, it was remarkably empty on this video normally it is packed with tourists and prices are high. I have lived there most of my life, back when I was a kid, you had very few tourist shops with woolworths and Safeway and sears downtown, free parking. The locals hung out on the plaza and shopped downtown. It is very different now. What is the same are the amazing blue skies fresh air. The chile ristras are real. By the way, I grew up on Canyon Road. I remember my neighbors mixing up the adobe to build their houses. There was a grocery store and a gas station as well as Claudes bar on Canyon road. My house was build with adobe decades ago and has vegas, latillas and mud stucco. The architecture is not Santa Fe “style” it is Santa Fe.
Now Robert, fifteen dollars to park all day is not steep at all 😂😂. I've been to New Mexico and it's a beautiful state. I rode my motorcycle there from New York. You get an old time wild west feeling there. Safe travels.
And yes, parking in Santa Fe is awful! I used to work for the company that owns the Inn & Spa at Loretto (they don't own the chapel), so I'm very familiar with that area.
Robert. Imagine my surprise when I saw you ate at the thunderbird. I ate there 25 years ago when it was the ore house. It was very good then. I was further surprised when you ate outside on the second floor at the same table I did! It was February then and the heater was on. Saw cowboys on horseback in the town square. Great trip.
Love this episode. Love Santa Fe. . Next time check out the train that runs between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. you don’t have to move your car to enjoy both cities
$15 all day is nothing. We were in Boston, MA, we went to see The North Church, Paul Revere’s home, the USS Constitution etc. we parked in a parking garage. We were there for 4.5 hrs. It was $14 / hr. We paid about $60. $15 dollars I am happy.
"Fall. Late August brings cooler nights and declining water temperatures. Pike feed heavily as this happens because their instincts are telling them the coldwater period of inactivity is approaching. The fall is one of the best times of the year to target pike, and it is a great time to look for a real trophy fish"
Thank you for this wonderful look back ❤ we visited Santa Fe in June 22 during our trip on entire 66. Santa Fe is one of the most beautiful cities in the USA, our opinion. Did you also visit Madrid? We love it 😍 🇺🇸❤️
Awesome Mr. Robert, my family is from there. May I suggest that the next time you visit the area you visit Chimaio there you will find not much, but a couple of special places firstly Santuario de Chimayo a place that people go to for healing dirt... Next is an awesome restaurant Rancho de Chimayó. Thank you for the video... 🍻
Robert Santa Fe New Mexico is awesome the adobe style homes and buildings are my favorite architecture. You do a great job in your traveling videos. We're hooked. 2 questions: 1 did you have to get a drone license to fly the Mavic? 2. Find any Cuban croquettes or potato balls along the way? I go to vickey bakery when I am in Miami. My favorite steak sandwich comes from Morro Castle in Hialeah 😅
Hi, yes I got my part 107 license a couple of years ago. Best Cuban food is in the Miami area. I have found variations here and there, even in Alaska, but never the real thing.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Santa Fe but there was a restaurant/bar with a piano in it. Think name was Vanessie’s? It seemed to be west of the downtown area I want to say along Canyon Rd. Had good food and drinks along with a great pianist. Many of the locals went there. It was also a gathering place for folks after attending the opera. The Santa Fe Opera is beautiful open Arena with the stars as your roof. World class performers would come and perform. Some will go to Vanesies afterwards for food, drink and sometimes perform impromptu for those there.
In 2020 after Covid hit we spent a week in Sante Fe and it looked much the same - everything closed - then we understood why - amazing now still the same
Hey Robert, nice to join you on your Santa Fe walkabout this morning. So much interesting art and architecture there. And great food too...there used to be a vendor in the plaza, right where the guitarist was sitting -- he had the best tamales ever. Good to see Illy's shadow making a cameo appearance 🙂 Next time you're in the area I highly recommend visiting Meow Wolf -- it's like no place you've ever been. See you next time on Rt 66...until then, happy trails!
The best time to visit is in summer. Being at 7000 ft elevation, it’s cooler and is busting with attractions and people. I grew up there and was baptized in the cathedral.
I was in Santa Fe July 5. I was intending on staying and exploring a few days while camping in dispersed camping. It was too crowded for me after spending nearly 2 weeks at various canyons. And I couldn't figure out where to park or what to do with my dogs, so I just left. I stayed at a really nice core of engineer campground called overlook campground about 30 minutes away. I will go back again to explore when I have my camper with me and can leave the dogs in the camper with the air conditioning on and not on a holiday weekend. I want to do the museums.
Howdy, From Perry,Fl. One day I will go West, For now I got Georgia on my mind. Aug 19th to the 25th Pine Mountain,Ga. Our 30th wedding Anniv. and a side day trip to visit Horseshoe Bend Military Nat'l Park in AL.
I am from Pennsylvania near Philly, Robert. Did you ever when to Jim Thorpe Pa? It is called the Switzerland of America. The film Molly Magners was in town. It is worth seeing the courthouse and jail. There is on the top on the middle of state near NY State. The grand canyon of Pa a nice to visit. I like your videos. Martina
Great video. I’m not a huge fan of Santa Fe. Way too touristy and artsy for me. It’s cool to visit if you’ve never been but I prefer many other places in New Mexico including Albuquerque where I lived.
It's a shame you chose to go back to Albuquerque for dinner. I've always considered Santa Fe to be the leader in culinary experience in all of the SouthWest styles of food.
Robert, that house can't be the oldest in the US. I know of one in Connecticut that is from the 1630's, called the Henry Whitfield House, (very cool house to see!). There may be even older ones than that. Still very interesting place, there in Santa Fe, but not the oldest in the country.
@@FlourishingLove I looked up the information on the house. Says that it’s hard to tell how old it is. But does mention that there’s an area of the house that may suggest some of it may of been built before 1500’s when the Spanish conquistadors came through. So it’s got a varied history. Did find out that the Capitol building maybe 1608? When built.
@@FlourishingLove talking mainly of the house thought to be the oldest house in Santa Fe. But then I talk of the Capitol building as well. The building that’s the capitol maybe as old as over 400 years. Think it’s the oldest capitol in America
Santa Fe is being Californicated...So sad. Traffic has tripled in 3 years. Homeless people everywhere. No place left to dance, except La Fonda. I have sold thousands of sculptures since 1981. Now it is basically a tourist trap. Sorry about the negativity, but the truth is the truth. Michael
I wouldn't say "extremely" liberal, but yes, it definitely leans Democratic. That's part of the reason I moved here 25 years ago. It has less than 1/8 the population of San Francisco, and just as in San Francisco, there are lots of "regular people," including many who can trace their families back for centuries.
Great video as always. I wanted to correct you on the oldest home in America, I thought it was in St Augustine, but I learned that it is in Mass. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairbanks_House_(Dedham,_Massachusetts)#:~:text=The%20Fairbanks%20House%20in%20Dedham,been%20verified%20by%20dendrochronology%20testing.

I really enjoy Santa Fe. It's one of those US cities that makes you feel like you are in another country. Thanks for sharing!
I'm watching listening 🎶 and 😉 enjoying 😌 the trip . Nice landscapes and landmarks are being shown. Thanks. #RobertandLily 😊

Love the music minute 14:27 and 17:59 - makes want to rewatch the Lewis and Clark episodes
Excellent tour of Santa Fe Robert!
Thank you for visiting my home town. Very old city.
Mine too. I always wanted to live in one of the apartments above the first floor on the plaza.

Our favorite RV Park in SF is the Santa Fe Skies. We try and visit every summer. Great video!
I really like Santa Fe. It has been a few years since I was there. I hope to return there and stay a few days. Enjoyed the visit today.
Such a beautiful area, love the architecture and colors.
Beyond beautiful! Absolutely stunning and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your expert video and music, which is always appreciated.❤
Robert go ahead and visit the very large array in Socorro New Mexico if you can! It’s fascinating
I did, earlier on this trip. I always wanted to go there
Beautiful churches!
Late watching today. You had to compete with the last stage of the Tour de France. We loved Santa Fe and bike all over town. Another great video!

Robert, come to Taos. I own property there and you can stay as long as you like.
Odd to see Sainte Katheri in New Mexico as she was born and lived in Montreal region. There are a few small monuments in her honor on the south Shore.
