Something you failed to mention with Longines heritage is that they were the 1st watch manufacturer to make a duel time zone watch back in about 1908 in a pocket watch for the ottoman empire, then the 1st gmt wristwatch called zulu time because Zulu is phonetic word for zero being 0 latitude back in the 1920's before rolex was a thing, so Longines should have a 10 for heritage.

For me the Longines is the stand out watch in this group. Looks fabulous, great brand history and good value to quality ratio. “Old Charlie Lindberg wouldn’t have been able to make it across the Atlantic to clean those chimneys had it not been for Longines…” love the zany humour in these videos!

I think they were harsh on the appraisal of the Longines. It really stood out in quality, value and really looked cool and a classic that will always be in fashion. The seiko skx looks like a toy next to it and the tudor isnt nice in looks or build and the Rolex doesnt look any better in design and seems common and boring. Only the grand seiko is better made so i think for under 3K its a no brainer. I can honestly say im very impressed with Longines quality as my quartz le grande classique has beautiful clasp, bracelet, case, glass and face, cost under £700 and is 22 years old and still looks in great condition on only its 4th replacement battery in 22 years and more accurate and doesnt have the expensive service costs every 5 years or so. A very under rated brand indeed that are known to be great quality and an absolute bargain, ask any owners as many have had them a generation or more!

Yeah, giving the Seiko a higher street cred rating than GS, Tudor or Longines? What street are you talking about? The one in front of your local JC Penny’s? I’ll give you the GMT M II, but next is the Longines easily. If anything- this list is just proof of how “underrated” that Zulu is.

The Zulu Times is such an elaborated GMT watch imho. And even at list price a third of the Rolex. And I did not research this but I would guess they have a silicon hairspring in there. Also So much heritage with this one - all in all, this one would easily always be my choice.
In addition, you do not have to worry about resell value at all if the watch already costs just a little part of the contestor^^
I even see unprecise painting on the hands of the Black Bay, this was not mentioned as a quality flaw. However I would clearly see it as one since other brands do have a cleaner execution.
Dear channel moderators, maybe get over the "Rolex is worth what it's worth because it's Rolex" talk. I assume you are rather a watch enthusiast than an investment enthusiast. And if anyone might now say "well Rolex just is THE benchmark" maybe it's just because of just the same ppl also pushing the brand to the sky?
You have so much understanding of watches and it's always entertaining to listen to you. BUT I really do not get why Rolex so often comes out on top in those comparisons, because you can get so much more watch for the heap of money you would want to pass to Rolex - or the other way round, you could get the same amount of "watch" for a quarter of any Rolex price easily, but still manufactured to highest standards and so much more iconic and innovative as the always-the-same Rolex. For example, just compare a Submariner and a Glashütte SeaQ, especially with respect to that beautiful movement. It's cheaper (even if not just a quarter of the price), and it's soooo much more "watch" in every respect.
Also, looking at that silicon hairspring again, how can you not compare the movements (e.g. power reserve) when claiming to compare the "best GMT watches"? Pulling this one into overall "quality" rating is not doing justice.
Another watch to pitch: Formex Reef GMT for example. A "caller" GMT and a rather young brand; but there's much to be discovered with this one. Very high level finish and engineering alongside an iconic (or at least rather distinctive) look for about 2K.

It's a much tighter race without the Street Cred category:
    Rolex - 33
    Tudor - 26
    G. Seiko - 25
    Long. - 31
    Seiko - 29.
I chose to remove Street Cred. because I buy what I like, not show people what I can afford. The Grand Seiko and the Longines would be my picks.

Cool video again, but this time the flaws of the criteria were more exposed. Being iconic, historic, and having street cred (especially street cred), is for the most part marketing driven, so no one is better at Rolex at that… hence it will score higher… but if you took quality and value alone, it’d be tied with the SKX… so maybe another criteria is required to balance that out… the best watch in this group is for sure the GS as far as the actual watch is concerned and I think most true watch purists would prefer the better watch than the better marketed one… I don’t know… maybe a different set of criteria is required that wouldn’t include street cred or weigh the criteria differently… quality and value should be worth more than street cred and history I’d say… history has zero bearing on how good a watch is or isn’t… iconic is cool though because it means longevity… there are many historic watches that failed but if they were iconic for some reason would still be around… anyway awesome as usual and always a lot of fun!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

For decades, Rolex has spent significant sums on marketing their watches as the most desirable watch you can own, that it say's you've arrived and can afford the price of one, etc. And it is a good watch, but there are so many that have a heritage far longer than Rolex, that are mechanical wonders for the wrist, finished to an incredible level at the hands of trained watchmakers. The difference is that they don't spend the same sums marketing their products, depending more on word of mouth and appearing on the wrists of celebrities and other highly visible people in the news and in fashion. And because they're hand made, their watches have much smaller annual numbers available than Rolex, who cranks them out. If a world where people can afford Vacheron, Lange, Patek, Breguet and Audemars Piget, a Rolex is just a daily driver on the wrist.

I hunted down all three and got to hold them all in the flesh on the same day. Ultimately, I do give the nod to the Rolex Pepsi. I loved the dial more on the Tudor, but the thickness and bezel are just better on the Rolex. I have 2 Grand Seikos, one dress and the diver that I got as a present from my wife for my 65th birthday. Love them both. Until recently, my day to day wear is a Seiko Sumo with a Strapcode band that I just gave to my youngest son who can't stop looking at it. I believe I have created a future watch fanatic! My "GMT" currently is a Samsung 5 Pro..gasp! Automaticaly updates the time before I am off the plane and I can buy an expresso when I land by simply tapping it to the card reader.

Longines Spirit Zulu 43mm - will be delivered to me today. Can't wait for the courier! I already own a Longines from the Master Collection series. It is an excellent watch. As soon as I saw the Zulu, I knew I had to have it... it is beautiful. I am not particularly fond of the aesthetics of watches of this type, they seem to me all the same just at different prices.... I feel that the inscription "Longines" on the dial, is particularly elegant and makes this type of watch unique in their case.

I always like your videos, great content, I would like to participate to the video with a little correction or addition. The first wrist watch that presented two time zones was the Longines Zulu time in 1925, so the name of the model refers to that watch. I hope you find this information interesting and usefull, hope to see another video soon!

The most boring GMT watches ever, except for Zulu maybe. The previous version of Breitling Avenger II GMT that had 24h bezel, if it had their 70h movement would beat them all.
I'm a fan of GMT function and if I had one watch, it'd be Sky Dweller, the most versatile watch ever - it's sporty, yet dressy, WR 10ATM allows any regular activity, 72h power reserve is great, plus annual calendar. Maybe someday I'll get my hands on Frack Muller Master Banker, but for now I'll stick to my Glycine Airman and Mido Ocean Star.

The Longines and the Tudor were neck and neck for me. The deciding factor between the 39mm Tudor versus the 43mm Longines was that there were some issues regarding the date change over on the Longines that the Tudor does not experience. In the end I went with the Tudor as a daily driver and couldn’t be happier. It flies under the radar and I felt safer traveling with it because it does not grab the attention that my Rolex bluesy does. The thickness of the Tudor is often mentioned and IMO gives the relatively small 39mm some well needed substance and feel.

GMTs are essentially a traveler's watch, so a lot of people where them on vacations and such. An unmentioned advantage of the Tudor, being that we're talking GMTs, is how being understated could be considered an advantage here.
Having said that, I'd buy a second Longines before buying the Tudor BB Pro.

Since I can add and subtract single digits, the only use I can think of for a GMT is as a 24 hour indicator for if I am unable to know whether it is AM or PM (when I have been hanging around in a cave for a couple of days, for example). Since I can also multiply by 2, I do not need the extra numbers around the outside for the GMT hand. In fact, thinking about it a bit more, I think GMT watches are a pretty stupid idea.

  • @harryh536

Tudor were great years ago but the prices are up and the quality is down and ownership is like buying something that looks like what you really wanted 🤦🏻‍♂️ this pro isn’t too bad until you look at it side on 😬 then it all falls apart. It’s hard to wear a Rolex without looking like a try hard knob but the chances are your local AD won’t sell you one of the 1.2 million they made that year because they sell them all to the same people who put them in a draw and feel happy with themselves 🤦🏻‍♂️ nice work Rolex ✊🏻💦

For these watches I would rank the Longines first then the Grand Seiko, then the Rolex Master II, then the Tudor and then Seiko 5. It's based on how much I like the look of one and how much I would like to wear one. Honestly I wouldn't wear either of the Tudor or the Seiko 5. :D
