I think Mark really likes Sons of the Forest, he just can't convince Bob, Sean or Wade to replay it for the 4th time with him. But he can convince us, I'm here for it!
Collabs probably get tiring after a while, so it's understandable if he wants to play some games on his own even if it has multiplayer.
Oh man, I don't even remember the last time Sean played with others on camera, even before his retirement.
Kinda sad we'll probably never see his energetic face next to anyone else's again.

Being a cannable in Sons of the Forest is very viable! Though you should probably cook your food first. The only downside is getting sick! But it’s so easy and widespread!

Calvin’s bleeding from both ears violently due to the helicopter crash. During the final roll, his hearing protection comes off, and the helicopter explodes following the tumble. Due to you being far enough away it doesnt deafen you. But calvin is too close to the blast, resulting in the rupturing of both eardrums. And his lethargy comes from a concussion mixed with his senses being all disrupted.
That or someone walked up to him and went “WHA-PAH”
I think the latter is the more likely scenario.
My first guess was a skull fracture, but I think yours is more likely, given the need for notes and otherwise operating motor function.

....so at what point in time was it decided that mark was a masochist? I mean we all know (or at least we think) he's a masochist, but when was it figured (again it's still not for sure) out?
I think the sound wave from the accident or the sudden loss of altitude (barotrauma) while having his headphones yeeted off his head led to Kelvin's ear drums bursting. So, his issue is probably a sound or pressure related injury rather than intentional injury by a hostile entity.

That would be a cool thing to see in a game. It also may be overthinking it, but idk I've come up with wacky ideas for simple things in games before, just to find some logical way to describe a developer's random choice to do something.

Yeah wade was a bit annoying in the playthrough. I remember when they played the forest and they actually worked hard together but not on purpose they would mess everything up

I blew out my eardrums a while back (they are fine now) and ohmygod the amount of times id turn to face a friend and see they had been talking to me at length for god knows how long. Just into the void. Knowing full well I was completely deaf. 😂

those weird sounds at 11:30 are actually sounds that frozen lakes make in real life! so whenever you walk by or are near a frozen lake in the game you’ll usually hear it. i think it’s super cool that they added that in as a detail

Used to be an avid ice fisherman. It's true! Allegedly according to the old timers on the ice you can tell by the sounds the difference between heaving by more ice having formed, and ice breaking somewhere further along on the lake. We would often go on ice that wasn't very thick to beat the crowds and such. Sometimes early winter, some times as the ice is melting and there are whirlpools forming on top of the ice (where there are holes)of draining water.
I recall early in the season the ice under us shifted to such a degree (it felt like we dropped a full inch) that me and my friend both had already started moving out of the lightweight tent before we even realized it was happening.

22:49 the fire making everything darker actually makes sense, its about how our eyes react to light, your pupil dilates in the dark to allow the most amount of light in, but in the any bright conditions it contracts so it doesnt let harmfull light into the eye. So when u look at the fire, the pupils constrict for protection, and your surroundings seem darker
I was hoping to find this comment. this game does an amazing job of things like that. like going snow blind in the mountains or coming out of a dark room on a bright day and visa versa. it's the little things. I just recently picked this game up and It's one of my new favorite survival games.
Amazingly enough, it looks brighter from afar when you look from the dark.
Yep! This game’s attention to detail for stuff like that is really impressive. Seems like the best way to keep watch would be to sit with your back to the fire, where the light can illuminate without your pupils constricting
For the same reason all of the movies that have characters move their torches forward to see further are stupid.
This illuminates at most 1/2 meter more, but blinds your eyes at the same time; to see further with a torch you need to move it behind you, and shield your eyes from the reflections off of the cave walls around you (easiest by forming a tube with your other hand).

It is called "Light blindness".
Your eyes were adjusted to the dark. You added a light source. Your eyes adjusted to the new light source. Now you don't see quite as well in the parts where the light doesn't reach.
It's like when you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and when you turn on the light, you can barely open your eyes. Then when you shut off the light it looks pitch black again, instead of it being easier to see in the dark like before. It's also said that pirates would wear eyepatches because when they went inside, they'd take their eyepatch off that eye so they could see indoors.

That's what I realized the second I started the video. I was like whoa...no one gonna talk about that?
Had me for a bit with the whole "We're done, frienship over" thing until I realized "After all the shit you all have been through, there really isn't anything that would destroy your friendship"
The video was pretty good, and I will admit that it is both good and sad that you're playing solo. On one hand we get to see you focus on the story and do hilarious stuff on your own, but on the other hand Bob and Wade certainly add a level of hilarity to the videos. I still think one of my favorite moments from the original Forest was the Gazebo/Log Cabin incident lol

In the forest, you could make tree ziplines. Since you have the high ground, you could have ziplines all across the map. You will need a lot of rope though.

Same lol, always wished they finished the series they started last year together, but I doubt that'll happen. Those videos were hilarious, and a few years ago I spent nearly a week binge-watching the original Forests playthrough from 2021.
I'm so happy you're playing this solo. I love Bob and Wade, but that last playthrough of this series was infuriating (albeit hilarious 😆)

Last year, I was stuck in bed for like 2 weeks recovering from surgery. Was in a lotta pain but I watched the original "The Forest" playlist like +10 times and it helped me feel a LOT better during a time where I otherwise felt pretty miserable.
Really happy to see this series back and I hope it sticks around, it's very comforting to me now :>

Probably the best way to justify having a companion that can only do simple things like 'fetch stuff'. It also doesn't detract from the sense of isolation as much, because you can't talk to him.

i like marks sad monologue as to why hes quitting distractible and then releases his gamer sense to play the game.
One good tip is for a reliable food source is Greg. A soup using the limbs of the cannibals that gives you a good health boost and a cutting buff so you can cut down trees faster. Also fills both your hunger and thirst so one Greg a day is all you need. Pls like this so he can see it cause it really helped me especially later on when I’m just trying to build.

Kelvin suffered an intense explosion that most likely happened hear him, without ear protection, his ear drums were blown causing immediate pain, desorientation, psychological trauma, constant ear ringing and permanently deaf for life. 7:58 Basically a "blast" shot his ears out.
I like how confidently you give a full medical description, even including the psychological trauma that he clearly has by the fact that he calmly and simply follows orders with no panic or confusion! By the way, "Most ruptured (perforated) eardrums heal without treatment within a few weeks"
maybe brain damage in the temporal lobe can cause hearing loss idk, from the crashing
@@robonator2945 this is true! but depending on the severity, it might need surgery to repair the damage, so that it can start to heal properly. also a ruptured eardrum can allow bacteria into the inner ear. which could cause an infection that might lead to more permanent hearing damage. so it's always recommended to have such an injury looked at by a doctor.

Oh my goodness. I’ve been rewatching the Forest and Sons of the Forest playthroughs with Wade and Bob these past days, and lamented how there weren’t more Sons of the Forest videos. This makes me so happy.

10:00 A plasma lighter is pretty cool and it has its advantages over a traditional lighter, but as a light source is *not* one of them.
Mark, if you ever need a better base spot so the mutants don't keep destroying it (and so you can get a good night's rest), go to the north-west beach! There's shallow water there that you can build on, and the bad guys cant cross the shoreline, so you can defend from afar. Hope this helps :)

that is SUCH a great timing. we've been playing this game with my friend and we got pretty far in the story (we're on day 50 something as well) and its SO ADDICTIVE we can't stop playing. thankfully we're both pretty serious with it but even playing seriously its very funny despite it being a horror game lmao

You usually want a much bigger and flatter area but it really depends on how big of a base you want to build
ofc you can do all the caves with nothing more than a tent and a campfire but the building mechanics they added in this game are half the fun

I let out an audible gasp when I saw Mark upload this. I’ve been waiting for him to play this game so badly. And considering wade and Bob rock/log throwing, I can understand solo play.
I got the notification for this a few days ago and ive been rewatching every previous Forest videos, and I'm only almost to the end of the first game
6:39 I have the answer for that! Kelvin most likely hit his head while the helicopter was rolling, or when he was possibly thrown out of it. He's suffering a TBI, traumatic brain injury, which occurs when your skull/brain has been thrown around or bonked too hard. He's got it pretty bad, as you can see when you wave your hand in front of his eyes, he doesn't follow or track the movement. However, he responds a bit to basic communication through writing, which shows a bit of hope for his survival. Unfortunately,if this was a real life situation, he probably wouldn't be allowed to walk around like he is right now. But yeah. No bullet needed. Just a bad swonking.
This is going to be a drastically different experience than playing with friends. It's like those let's plays of single player Minecraft.
I can't tell you how much I wanted you to complete this series 11 months ago when you were playing it with bob and wade, but then when I finally started playing this game few weeks ago, I realized it was for the best (cause of how many wrong decisions you guys took in just 3 ep of series lol.)

22:50 it got darker because due to the new light introduced into a dark environment, your eyes was adjusted to the dark but now they’re trying to get adjusted to the light as well. It’s like being in a dark room then suddenly stepping outside during the day, and when you go back inside it seems to be darker than before. Amazing detail in this game, this is a true survival game

Bob and Wade can be a lot of fun, but it was pretty obvious last time that Mark wanted to play the game more seriously than either of them.
Love how there's this whole 'falling out' thing when they still playing Chained Together... together.
