Yeah these guys don’t know what they’re talking about. We have 3 first gen Kia souls in my household. My wife has had hers for 10 years no issues just kept up with routine maintenance
Good car, I have a 2010 base model, 1.6 L 5 speed manual, 175k miles, replaced the clutch at 70k, alternator once, never had any problems with it, gets minimum 25mpg, has a decent amount of storage space, (especially the base model) all around good car.
PSA: North American, 1st gen , Kia Soul, has weak suspension. You are feeling every little pothole. However, good headroom for tall drivers. Tips: change your PCV valve every 2 years; change tranny fluid every 60K; apply your throttle intake valve cleaner treatment, annually. This model will get you 150K miles on Odo, easily. Thankfully, 2nd gen suspension was improved. Peace.
I drive like a madman and I'm telling you this car is very reliable. I have 430,000. Miles
