The Korat ( Sisawat) is paraded around town in the Northeast of Thailand every year by farmers. It’s thought to be bringer of rain and storm because of its dark blue/gray color ( the color of thundercloud). This parade is called “Hay Nang Meaw” . It’s also considered a very lucky cat.

I think my sister’s cat is a korat. She was adopted as a kitten from a neighbor who didn’t know the breed, but she matches the appearance. She’s 16 this year and is still very lively.

Some comments here sound ignorant. These are original cats in this area which was called Siam and your uneducated ancestor has got one of Wichienmaat and simply called it “Siamese Cat” so the rest of the world including the origin country should follow your ancestor? These names are not fancy, they were named like this even before America exists - education or research could help removing stupidity and ignorance.
but that's just the difference, the Western "Siamese" have very specific ancestry, whereas these cats you call "Siamese" because they come from Thailand, are white, grey or black, with all different eye colours, as others have pointed out, we would just call "shorthairs"
@@racketman2u That’s not the point. You can call these cats whatever you want, it’s your mouth. But these cats names in Thai language are not “fancy”. They are just in the other language than English and that language is the language of the country where these cats are from.
I stand corrected, then. I did not know you consider all cats from your land to be Siamese cats, but it certainly does make sense. Thank you for sharing that information. I don’t believe the people who posted meant any offense by referring to the fancy, though. It was not meant to imply that our American breed names are fancy. In the West, we just call people interested in different breeds of cats, “The Cat Fancy,” because we fancy cats, in the sense that we are fond of them. I’m interested in many perspectives on cat breeds, so thank you for sharing yours!

I had the pleasure of being the caretaker of a Korat for 5 glorious years. Those were very good years as he seemed to ward-off the bad luck that has plagued me all my life. Shortly after he passed away in May of 2013, 2013 became an absolutely horrible year. My last Uncle died, a very close friend died, my cars' engine blew up and my mother broke her ankle. I figure I owed the universe for the 5 years of no bad luck I had. It's been business as usual since then. Needless to say, I want another Korat (or three) .

Thai cat breed There are many species. Divided into 15-16 species of auspicious cats, but currently there are about 5-6 species left, including Khao Manee.

I'm Thai. And I own both Wichianmaat and Supalak. But my Supalak he has run away for 8 years now.
We had a Si sawat Korat for 11 years. She was quite a character somewhat naughty, but mostly a very good kitty. My husband says "Nang Meow was a cat among cats. I agree.
We also had a Blue Burmese (grey) the European breed. He was cute and funny and they were bonded. Then we adopted a stray-long haired, pure white with odd eyes. Very pretty,
but I think she'd had a rough life. Anyway, the two grey cats couldn't stand her and for a lot of years they were forced to live in a small house and managed to find ways to avoid running into each other.
I never met anyone who had those two breeds, too! Mercury was our Korat, and Signal, a blue Burmese, was my best friend in life. I see another Burmese in my future…

Observe, they really mean Thailand cats. With siamese we always mean the pointed cats from Thailand and none else. Even if Siam is the old name of Thailand, and thus, they all are sort of, siamese cats, but not in the cat fancy vocabulary....
yes, that "Siamese" with dark brown fur and yellow eyes would be called a Burmese anywhere else! of course the Western Siamese and Burmese are reputedly descended from the same cats.
@@racketman2u I have read that kittens from breeding Burmese with Suphalak are not brown cats but black cats. Suphalak has brown coat while Burmese has brown coat with black points. I would say they are 2 different breeds.

@@MeMalXX Is it also your opinion that the Bombay and Burmese are different breeds? I just lost my 19 year old Burmese, who was my best friend, ever in life. I want another Burmese, but my breeder doesn’t have one available for months. She also breeds Bombays, and insists their personality is the same as that of the Burmese. Do you think their being crossed with Bombays makes Bombays the same, or are their differences? Personality is more important than looks, to me, but I love the “sweet expression” of the Burmese, as in the breed standards. Mostly, I want a little puppy cat to follow me around, and be involved in everything I do. And he must love to cuddle, and be spoiled. 🥰🐈⬛

Khao Manee is of pure recessive genes. Konja can be of pure dominant genes or hybrid. If you're very lucky you may get pure Khao Manee kittens.

Not mention is the Siamese Flame Point. I own one & he is wonderful.
Flame point is but a crossbreed of Wichien Maat (the origin of Siamese cats in the western world) and ginger tabbies which are considered common cats not mentioned in the ancient cat manuscript which is a compilation of only pure breeds. All Thai cat breeds are subspecies of the same lineage anyway.

If he/she also wears 4x brown socks with 2x brown ears plus brown sex organ, he/she is considered genuine Wichienmaat. If any of 9 marks are missed, he/she is Wichienmaat mixed. Anyway I believe he/she will still be your beloved.

Khao Manee don't always have odd eyes their eyes can be blue, green, or amber or one eye blue and the other eye green, or amber

No, not "all siamese", because stated in this video there are 5 types (maybe even more), but specifically to Wichienmaat siamese, the answer is Yes? to fit into the Wichienmaat siamese catagory, they must have blue eyes and white coat and point colorations. Most western worlds only know the Siamese cat being of Wichienmaat breed, may or may not know of other kinds of breed bc other breed seems basic and not unique in comparison. I hope that help.

An ocicat is it siamese. It's bred ocelot cat which is African and it should never have been done. Same with the Savannah cat. Very cruel to breed wild and domesticated cats plus it's dangerous if you have babies around

Different countries have different breed standards.American Siamese are super slim compared to the original & in some places the original is called "Thai".

The Khao Manee is just a domestic shorthair. I regularly see white cats with green/yellow/brown/blue eyes when I go outside and they look like the Khao Manee. The only feature in this scam of a "breed" is the higher cheekbones which are not that visible. Same with the Konja breed. Both scam breeds. No wonder why they aren't rare, they breed in the wild
