If @aarongwin ever retires.. I sooo hope he will be in the commentating booth every race..(yes i miss Rob W too) He spots everything and has so much knowledge of lines, riders and the sport in general. And Ben, please keep doing this Story of the Race. Awesome work!
He's so damn good at it, makes the broadcast way more enjoyable... every time he speaks he is pointing out interesting things on a run, or track insights, things the rider has said/recent history etc. Dude is wired into the scene and has a great eye (obviously).
He's really good, actually surprisingly good. And he also notices things that the regular moderators really should, e.g. instead of shouting "how did he make up so much time?!?!" he just mentions that some riders are faster at the bottom or vice versa. That was really refreshing.
Awesome! Thanks Ben. I was the course marshal at the spot where Loic crashed. For some reason he was just a few inches to the right of the line that everyone including him had been taking all weekend; which was directly over the right sloping ramped rock. He was just to the right of it as he passed and clipped the pad. I don't recall anyone hitting that pad all weekend (and definitely not on Saturday) so I’m fairly certain that it hadn’t moved. The line through there is so crazy tight!
Glad you clarified it was consistent skill and maturity in riding along with a small bit of luck that got the irish lads the 1 - 2. No amount of luck alone will get you a podium these days
I really like how Bruni is so good that his crashing is causing to question not his abilities but the parts of the racetrack being different in the racerun😅💪 absolute beast🎉
Excellent roundup as always. These high quality summaries are invaluable given the finals are behind a paywall, and the UCI highlights have been of variable quality this season. I thought the UCI highlights of the Snowshoe DH were pretty good, but then they let themselves down with some proper sketchy highlights of the short track XC. Anyway thanks Pinkbike/Ben Cathro for consistent high quality. I also loved how technically challenging this track was. Anyone racing on that is brave af, so hats off to all the riders.
When it comes to Snowshoe, the one thing that comes to mind for me is Marine bein the only woman doing the triple in the first year of WC there... Very glad to see her back up at speed!
What a great season this is shaping up to be. It's so much better than when one rider dominates the field and everyone else fights for second. Of course it's always great to catch Between the Tape and Story of the Race. Thanks Ben and your production team for putting together such fine reviews.
Great recap! "luck of the Irish analogues aside, it looked like in finals the course really favoured Dunne and Callaghan. I've ridden in Ireland a few times and this looks a lot like most of the riding out that way, only drier! Great ride from both, composed and technically on point for race day.
Yeah - when it was wet, they gained confidence early compared to many and as it dried only seemed to build speed. I love Snowshoe just because it usually mixes things up a bit (and I guess it's good for us brits). Rumour is that it's not on the calendar next year (according to Loris anyway).
Yeah, I think you’re right. They really don’t shy away when the tracks are wet, the fact is starting to dry for race day. I agree that they really benefitted that early confidence.
GMBN and all involved should be flogged in the street for what they are doing to this sport! Shame the kid who won this race isn't known, nobody has heard of him because nobody at gmbn really cares about that sort of thing, they're just into the numbers and figures! Bring back redbull ASAP. The live streams which I've paid for are the biggest load of sh1t EVER!
these have to be the closest grouping of overall points ever with 3 to 4 riders who can win the men's field. Greg and Gee's 2012 battle was close but that was just 2.
They need to recut or move that course. Too many rocks and luckily it was dry. Think about last year, the ladies could not even hold a line in the lower section.
Thanks for the review, sadly now the DH is behind a paywall there is no other real way of watching any of the finals without handing money over to Murdock which is not going to happen. Bring back Red Bull!
In another interview, Loris indicated this is the last WC at snowshoe, and interestingly how he doesn’t like the course, comparing it to a rather flat and long enduro stage….Rumors abound, is this the last Snowshoe World Cup downhill race ever?
They are 3 or 4 years at a time at a venue in the states. It went a cycle without a US race before this particular session for SS, was Wyndham NY before this one. Hopefully the can bring 2 race’s Stateside. The crowd is there to support it.
Have to agree with other comments re the luck of the Irish. You're better than that Ben. Love your vids and analysis but you cant get much more antiscientific than putting the first two riders positions down in part to luck. Its obvious that the course suited their ridiing styles. Oisin won a junior downhill also in the recent past. Was that down to luck as well?
Thank you for calling out the stupid decision to show manager, trainer, whatever faces during a race run. This isn't Formula 1 where you nothing happens for minutes and you can switch to somebody else, you want to see the rider while doing their run! They did this already at the start of the season, then stopped and I thought they learned their lesson, but nooo, here they show some completely uninteresting images again... 🙄
Hold on a second Ben, when it came to the two Irish lads you said luck played a part but never explained why? You said the 2 boys were visibly fast all weekend but it was luck that got them the win in the end? If that's the case everyone who had ever won a DH race only won because of luck and some skill. Couldn't just leave the boys have their win, had to piss on their parade in some way but if Loic or Goldstone win it's down to raw talent and hard work. Staying on your bike and doing your best to not get punctures is all part of racing, just because that's what happened most riders this weekend doesn't mean the lads won off luck. Disappointed with this one.
@@GavinWhitehouse Ya I heard that, but why even mention it for this race but never mentioned luck before at any other race. Pure skill and different line choice is how Oisin won, even mentioning luck when there was none is just disrespectful.
"luck of the Irish" is just a old saying that they worked into the theme of the video for a bit of a laugh/gimmick, I can see how it gets lost in translation with places that aren't familiar with the saying but as someone familiar with it i can assure you it's only ever meant in fun, don't read too much into it.
He framed his whole analysis by saying that the track is one of the most hazardous of the year, and therefore luck plays a bigger part proportionately than in any other race of the year. He then also stressed the point that luck was still a small factor in Oisin's/Ronan's runs relative to the skill they showed. Respectfully, I think you've misread his comments/intentions.
What is 'healing vibes' when its at home?? Here is a proper blessing. May God Almighty Bless and heal Dean Lucas from that horrible injury and from all afflictions of the mind body and spirit. Thanks for the info
thanks for the insight You've brought clarity, a bit of light to a dim moment. ty
I think Bruni said that some rock there him slightly off line at tha section of the course, causing him to touch the pad.
God i wish Loris gets the overall. Like Reece said it, a silent assassin. Every race a podium finish. What a brilliant rider
Luca & Loris are my two favorite riders. Luca is just waiting to unleash & Loris is such a sniper with his lines. Dude is so smooth
I'm with you! Cool guy with amazing and consistent speed. Felt very sad when he lost the overall to Bruni 2 years ago.
Love Wyn TV interviews and Cathro analysis. Wouldn’t enjoy race week anywhere near as much without these videos.
Glad you clarified it was consistent skill and maturity in riding along with a small bit of luck that got the irish lads the 1 - 2.

Oh ya, wild stuff. ben said, "To go 5th in quli, 2 in Simi and 1st in the race..." skill acknowledged!
Brilliant stuff GMBN didn't show or have the insight to discuss, well done Ben and thanks!! ;)

Luca Shaw's run was insane, he crashed but pulled massive time.
The commentary is spectacular. Thanks!
BK gotta get the win sometime soon man. PLS
Thanks Ben, I love your coverage of the racers/racing!
thank you Ben. always love the pinkbike recap
Mush was soooo smooooth .... you could tell he was up there from day dot ... no luck there just excellent riding.

Ben could have kept talking for another hour and I would've listened without going to the toilet. Nice recap. Cant wait for MSA.
Great recap. No comment on the VPP bikes and flats?
Fantastic 👏👏👏👏🤘🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
My takeaway from this race, and honestly this season, is that Transition has built a legit DH race bike.
Thank you for obviously taking the time to learn how to pronounce "Oisín". It means a lot. Other broadcasters take note.
Oh dear……actually, Oisin Means ‘deer’ in Celtic ….
Cathro is a Scot so perhaps it is a little easier
Did you hear the tannoy announcer call him 'Ocean' when he got on the podium? Face palm.

Where was Asa Vermette? Saw him in video of practice, but can't find his name anywhere on the result sheets. That kid screams!
Can't race world cups due to his age. He was course sweeper but seemed to be doing plenty of runs all weekend.
1:42 "luck really have a larger part to play...."

Well done ben.
Get the bag pipes and the Guinness out next week lads 🍀

I felt serious anxiety watching the riders go down the track. It's it too rough? Kinda glad this place is getting skipped next year.
Not a fan of those block course markers.
Who would win? A $100K carbon lugged superbike with an advanced linkage and electronic suspension or a dime a dozen park bike from 2018 😂
