I find it most interesting that the commentator said Queen Louise was the sister of Earl Mountbatten (which she was), instead of Philip's aunt; his mother's sister.
+LeDerius Martin The British press (with the help of Mountbatten) spent the run-up to the Duke's wedding to the Queen and the years afterward to disassociating him from his very European relatives (his sisters, all married to Germans; his aunt the Queen of Sweden; the Greek Royals) to make him appear more British and therefore more palatable as the prince consort. A bunch of foolishness if you ask me...you can't hide your blood.
It would probably explain why the aristocracy would never accept Mountbatten or Oldenburg to be the name of the royal dynasty when Elizabeth took the throne. They insisted that the Windsor name not be retired.
I strongly disagree on the matter. You see within our Scandinavian monarchies, there is an enduring rather relaxed relationship between the monarch and the subjects and has been the case since the Viking Age-confirned with the Engelbreckt rebellion (1430's). You see Sweden never had serfdom (unfree workers being sold with the proparty, unlike England (abolished circa 1500). could lawfully own land- and allowed to buy more land. Morover the peasant class, had a representatives at the Reichstag-ever since the establishement of the Swedish establishment of chivarly in 1275. Still, Scandinavian monarchs are more approchable.

The adulation of Lord Mountbatten was not felt in many naval circles, nor those who were in India at the time of Partition.
I was born in Sweden when Gustav VI Adolf was king. Now his grandson Carl XVI Gustaf is Swedish king. Nice to see these pictures.
How beautiful the spoken English was in the era.
Queen Louise is Prince Philips maternal Aunt.
Weren't they glamorous?
A bygone era.
In what sence?
The king has a saluting OCD.. Too many salutes instead of waves..
