You might have heard stories about Pit Bulls painted in a bad light. I'm here to flip the side, to share tales of loyalty, bravery, and absolute heroism. Tales that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about Pit Bulls. From the quiet suburbs of California to the rustic landscapes of Australia, from a smoke-filled home in Oklahoma to a flood-ridden town in Southern California, there are Pit Bulls who have turned the tide of destiny. They've jumped into action when every second counted, pushed themselves beyond limits, even laid down their lives for their families. These are not just tales of dogs doing incredible things. These are stories of heroes with four legs and wagging tails. I have 10 such stories to share with you today - 10 stories of Pit Bulls who didn't just guard homes, they saved lives.

I agree 100% and this is coming from someone who doesn't really like dog's, they are pack animals, protecting the pack is everything to them. The problem most people have is that they don't own enough land to let their dogs roan free on.

Ok. It's a combination of factors.
Wrong owners can ruin almost every dog but every dog has a personality. Even with the same upbringing they can differ in behaviour.

I’ve had my pit for years now we’ve been through everything together…gfs, moves, multiple hikes, swimming, long drives….he was there for my worst moments he helped me through addiction with opioids and drinking, he saved me from 2 different dog attacks (of course I went on the offensive too NOTHING will hurt my dog, I’d protect him from the armies of Hell and Heaven if I had too.), he was also there helping me take care of my dad whom had cancer for the majority of my life…we went through his loss together he was by my side at the viewing and the funeral…My Pit is my entire world I’ve never knew what love felt like until I was blessed with my Pitt that’s my kid.
Don’t ever judge a dog because of its breed…Pits are one of the most loyal, loving and protective dogs you’ll ever have. Give them a chance.

WW1 the first military service dog was a pitbull, sergeant stubby. Became highly decorated for heroism and service, above and beyond the call of duty. He wasn’t trained he just knew what he had to do. He alerted his fellow soldiers, mustard, gas, he guided people off the battlefield, his acts of heroism is compass.

My pitbull saved me twice at least. I was walking alone on the road and Mojo was just out of sight in the bushes. 3 men in a white van stopped and 2 in the back were were laughing and we were going to grab me but the dog ran out growling like a demon. The other time there was a man in my kitchen in the middle of the night. I woke up to the violent growling &the dog on his heels chased him to the street. From my admittedly limited experience with pit bulls, I am firmly convinced that pit bulls aren't even partial to aggressiveness. Pits and pit mixes have been some of the friendliest and well mannered dogs I've had the pleasure to be around. The reputation is undeserved and perpetuated by ignorant people and media sensationalism.

Our pit bull Thor would follow our son around the yard as he drove his power wheel. Occasionally our son would get out and pick up stuff to throw in the back of his power wheel, even though he was told not to do so. One day I happened to walk around the house looking for them and noticed my son trying to look into the bushes but I didn’t see Thor. Apparently a cottonmouth snake was lurking where my son was at and Thor attacked the snake and was bitten multiple times and eventually died from the bites. Thor was always protective of my son and wife.

My friend bought his mum a German shepherd after a spate of burglaries in her area in Belfast, she already had a pit bull (Oscar) who had been rescued from dog fighting but my friend thought he was much too friendly to make a good guard dog, my friend used to exercise both dogs daily but one night as he returned from walking the dogs he seen two robbers escaping from the back door as he entered the front door, his first instinct was to check that his mum was ok, she was so he went of with both dogs looking for the two thieves he seen them a long way off across the park near the house and released the dogs, after a minute or two the shepherd returned but the Pit Bull was still gone my friend started to worry about Oscar but he came back minutes later with a large bloody piece of denim jeans in his mouth and that famous Pit Bull smile on his face, it turned out that Oscar was a much better guard dog than anyone thought!

My pitbull saved my life. I had been addicted to drugs pain killers, and mistakingly bought fentanyl instead of oxycodone and it cause me to go into an overdose. I had passed out on my bed while my boyfriend played video games not knowing I wasn't just sleeping. And my red nose pitbull Whippey who had been on the bed with me sleeping woke up. And started licking me in the mouth and jumping up and down in my chest giving me chest compressions. She had no special training just reacted on love and instinct. This alerted my boyfriend who came in the room and saw what she was doing and that I had turned blue. With what the dog had done and with his help via slapping me around and pouring cold water on me I was able to start breathing again. He told me your dog looked like she was giving u CPR. I googled this and found out that there are police K-9 German Shepards that they have actually trained to do this. But my baby girl reacted and did this all on her own. I know she saved my life that day.

I know for a fact it’s not the breed, it’s the environment they are raised in. I myself likely would have died as a toddler if not for a Pit Bull named Pinky. Pinky was a stray that adopted us she had clearly been abused by her previous owner my parents assumed due to the injuries she had when she jumped into our back yard.
When I was around two or three the back yard we had didn’t have a fence or the fence was damaged, I wondered off, while my mother was tending to a garden she had in the back yard. Pinky followed my and kept me safe out of the street and strangers away. The only person who she allowed to approach me was a friend of my mothers who Pinky knew the friend took me and Pinky home. It is my understanding that I was missing for around an hour or more.

It’s ironic. The American Pitbull used to be the American mascot and icon and were portrayed as heroic protectors. They were also mascots of shows like the Little Rascals, as a pet companion to a group of bratty little boys. It is only in recent decades that we have viewed pit bulls as untrainable rabid killers who will turn on you at a whim. Pit Bulls certainly get a bad wrap and it’s unfortunate because they are also often the most abused which reinforces that perception and cycle that they are chaotically violent with dangerous and erratic behaviors that can’t be controlled.

I had a dog that was half pit bull and half black lab. He was 110 pounds and for the most part, looked like a slightly slender, long legged pit bull.
He saved my life twice. The first time was when my fence was blown down in a bad storm. I was outside at 2am trying to fix it in the rain to keep the dog in the back yard. One of my neighbor's fences also blew down and his 3 dogs, each over 120 pounds themselves, and all not friendly towards strangers, came up behind me. I heard my dog start barking frantically, which he rarely did, so I turned and saw the 3 dogs and was getting ready to use the hammer I was holding in defense. That was when my dog jumped over the 6ft fence, landed between me and the 3 other dogs, and started going after all 3 of them. They ended up chasing each other around the corner and out of sight. A minute or so later, my dog came trotting back around the corner no worse for wear. I later spoke to the neighbor who owned the dogs and told him what happened and he said that one of his dogs (a great pyrenees) had some minor bite injuries to its muzzle.
The second time he saved my life was also his fault. I had taken him camping with me and while I was walking him through the woods, he darted off suddenly after a chipmunk. The sudden jerk on his leash pulled me to the side and I tripped over a tree root, rolled down a small hill, and fell off of a short ledge. As I was getting up I noticed the ledge had a tunnel dug into it and just as I noticed it, my dog ran inside barking and there was a small black bear cub inside. My dog was trying to play with it. I started pulling my dog out in order to leave because I figured the mother bear wouldn't be far away. And that is when momma bear showed up, charging in full speed. My dog noticed and jumped out of the den to go play with the momma bear, which really wasn't a whole lot bigger than he was to be fair. I doubt she weighed 200 pounds. Anyway, pretty quickly my dog realized the bear wasn't playing and somehow latched onto its ear. The bear stood up and spun a full turn trying to shake my dog off, but he didn't let go. I grabbed my dogs leash, pulled as hard as I could, which toppled both my dog and the bear, then my dog went to bite at the bear again, but it ran up a tree which is when I noticed the cub was also up that same tree. That's when I took the opportunity to leave. And just for those who may wonder, I was 19 at the time so I didn't own a gun for self defense.
There was a third incident that didn't involve any direct danger to myself, but years later, the police were chasing somebody through the alley behind my house. The suspect jumped the shorter 3ft fence into my neighbor's yard, then jumped the 6ft fence into my yard. He landed in my 4ft deep above ground pool just as I happened to be coming out the door to see what my dog was barking at. He got across the pool as quick as he could and started trying to climb the fence back into the alley way. That is when my dog jumped up and grabbed him by his foot and drug him back down into the yard. By then one of the police jumped the fence into my pool and the other jumped the other fence from the alley into the yard. My dog never tried to attack the police officers, he just kept pulling on the suspect's foot so that he couldn't stand up. Once the police grabbed the guy I got my dog and had to shove my fingers down his throat to get him to let go of the suspect's foot as I had never trained him to attack or "release" or anything like that. The police took some pictures of my dog and asked me a few questions for their report. That was the only time my dog ever showed any aggression towards a person and it turned out he never even hurt the guy, he was only gripping him by the sole of his boot.

She's also saved me from getting attacked by this dog in our neighborhood that would attack cars going past his house, and people walking by. Her puppy we kept from her litter had gotten out and we both almost got attacked until she flew around the corner and scared the little rat dog away.

@sammy9103 no, I respectfully disagree. Maybe I misunderstood and if I did, I apologize but I didn't understand what you meant by "genetics". True, they were a unfortunately still bred for fighting and that's probably what you meant by genetics but raised the right way, they can be what they were bred to do before they were forced to fight. They were once called the children's nurse maid. It's mankind that has ruined this breed.

I had a pitbull and he was always with me because my husband worked out of town. He was super sweet, not the smartest but always obedient. I was walking by the breakwater with him and 3 men pulled up in a big white van and started to get out to grab me. They were laughing, nobody else was around and Mojo came running up and started after them and they got back in and sped off. He saved me two other times as well but there's no dog like a pitbull. Their emotional intelligence is almost human at times. You just have to keep them close, and interact with them in your daily routine and they will not disappoint.

No puppys are born evil or aggressive.
It's the combination of breeding (inbreeding, or breeding of known aggressive dogs), socialization (or lack there of) and traning (lack there of, or training the dog to be aggressive).
And that goes for any breed.
The most aggressive breed are small breeds, especially Chihuahua, dachshound and miniature poodles, but I have met All three breeds, who was sweet as hunny, because of good breeding stock, and good training and socialization.

Pitbulls are smarter than they get credit for and are very strong dogs aswell as tough..also they are very loyal..My dog mayra is just like a human i speak and she listens i talk to her and its incredible how my dog comprehends what i tell her .. Ill just say this went i take her to the vet they always tell me they have never seen a dog thats as smart as my mayra she 14 years old and look like a shes 7 ..i hope she can live for ever but i know she only gonna be around for a couple of more years and im never gonna be ready for that day and it hurts me inside just thinking i might just have 3 or 4 more years...All i have to say is love your pitbull and you will always receive loyalty and love right back..I LOVE PITBULLS 4EVA

I worked at a vet clinic for 12 years. the sweetest dogs were usually the bigger ones. The biters tend to be the smaller ones. Met a few mean pit bulls, but most of them were just dingbats. Some of the sweetest dogs ever, but not necessarily the brightest. The smartest dog i've ever seen had to go to a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Molly. That thing was smarter than most 5 year old humans. She could count, open doors (with knobs and handles) and she could even lead other dogs to the dog runs. I'd let her out and she'd just follow me around all day. I wish I could've kept her, but she belonged to someone who occasionally went out of town on business. At the end of the business day when I was about to go home, I'd put her in her cage and give her a kiss on the nose and say "Go to sleep darlin" and she'd climb in her bed and lay down.

Loves to work, good with other animals, amazing with children, insanely smart, always want to be snuggled, affection driven I’ve never had to use treats for training. Confident and calm in new environments, reads people better than me. Her only downsides are that she has issues with fatty tumors, can be stubborn af and has a very high prey drive.
