Me to my great grandchildren in the future: "2045 Grizzly was announced today... bold new graphics, reflective laser headlights and bio-metric ignition system!" Kids: "Wow Gramps...what engine?" Me: "686cc single".
I’ve been wanting a Viking already, but this video has me convinced it’s the best one for me. I’ll be using it a lot for hunting, fishing, utility work etc, but I also want one that will trail ride just as well and this seems like the perfect machine. Thanks for the video, very informative and helpful. Y’all are the best.
Appreciate the love for the Yamaha’s! I bought a Grizz 550 new in ‘09 and a Viking new in 2018, both have been solid machines and I don’t plan on replacing either anytime soon. My kids have grown up riding each and are perfect machines for kids to grow into in my opinion, the power is easy to control and plentiful but not overbearing. Great low end grunt for work but still fun to kick around trails at will. And don’t forget bulletproof reliability. Keep up the good work guys!
You have helped me make up my mind to order a Yamaha Viking. Your review was very comprehensive and informative for somebody thinking of buying a machine
Thanks for the walkthrough of the 2021. I have a 2014 that has been fantastic. It has been used every day for 7 years without a problem of any kind and has gone anywhere I pointed it without complaint. I had paid $11K out the door including a 4 year extended warranty, tax and tags and a friend just sold his 2014 for $10,500. The Viking is not flashy, fast or have a particularly good suspension but it will haul, tow, plow and take you anywhere you want to go as long as you pick the right line.
After watching this video , called my Yamaha dealer and they just received the first stock Viking they have seen for 6 months,I got lucky! 10 hours on it so far and it’s everything I wanted, perfect for the cabin! Thanks for a great review
Being new to the side by side world and awaiting the arrival hopefully before end of year of my new Viking SE, you have given the most comprehensive review out there on this machine. Thank you for the great info. Makes me feel better about my decision. Keep up the great work
I have a 2019. Bought it to add capacity for adventures for our growing family. To be honest, I was anti side by side for a long time. But I have to say we are loving this machine. Simple, reliable, and does everything well. And, price is hard to beat. We paid $16k on the road, including 3500 lb pro vantage winch. Hold three adults equally comfortable. Used 50:50 by the wife and two young kids, or me, father and wife moose hunting. Recommended! Frames are more prone to rust than our Honda atv’s. Give e frame an occasionally coating with rust cure formula 3000 and you are golden.
Just to add. It really needs larger tires than the crappy 2 and 4 ply big horns that come with it. We went to 26” sti roctane xd’s. The bighorns that come with it aren’t even load rated for its GVWR. Anything larger than 26” diameter and Yamaha dealer recommends put in clutch kit. Rival makes excellent skid plates for it, and the super atv front and rear windows for $700 total are hard to beat. Recommended.
Thanks for the well done review I'm receiving a 700 Viking in 3 weeks in copperhead orange can't wait to experience driving and using this for work and trail riding
I agree with everything you stated in this video! I love taking my Viking VI Ranch Edition out trail riding and having it to work around the property. I made 3 videos on how the Viking operates to help others figure out if it will work for their needs.
I wish they would put something like the 1049cc in this. A super quiet, ultra smooth, bullet proof power plant. C'mon Yamaha, we know you have more than a few engines kicking around. This UTV should go after the Ulta plush 2 up touring snowmobile crowd. Plush, comfy, hand of God power on tap.
Great machine have the 2014 with all those accessories and I with the addition of a 3 inch lift from high lifter and 27inch tires on allow rims. Built my own cab and installed heater. Have hauled plenty of moose out of the bush with this machine It’s perfect.
I heard "What else can I tell you about this Viking" a few times. I think the reason is because there has been no difference since 2014. I own one. Great utility SXS...but it needs an update. When will that 850 engine hit the Viking and the Grizzly? Come on Yamaha, customers have been wanting this for far too long.
I got the SE in Canada. I'm getting windshield and rear window. Doors heater and wench. Oh and bigger tires. It's gonna be awesome. It should be ready next week. Or Friday.
Like always amazing video and love Yamaha sxs and you guys explain things so well, I know few my comments got highlighted few times on dirt trax and had my fingers crossed to win a prize package 😁😜
Hi guys ! Great great video, like always. I really appreciate your channel ! Can't wait to see the driving test video of this Wolverine Yamaha : I really like this SxS ! I'm a Yamaha fan. Hello from France !
GREAT REVIEW, THIS IS A GREAT MACHINE, ALWAYS HAVE BEEN. THE PRICE IS VERY REASONABLE. THAT MACHINE IS VERY CAPABLE OF GENERAL TRAIL RIDING AS WELL AS CHORES. KEEP IT UP!!!
I'd really like to hear about transmission, 4 wd, 2wd, lockout xfer case info too, street legal options. I'd like to do an EV conversion so I'm curious about engine - transmission dimensions. Great vid. You have Xlnt delivery. Thanks !
Great review… love my Viking, it’s very solid…I upgraded the tires to 27” made a huge difference…to me the 25” tires are too small especially for trail riding and Yamaha should ditch the steel wheels on the base model… just sayin
Thank you I'm doing research trying to figure out what. I want is there any additional options for the ranch edition. And do you know if Yamaha plans to put a 1000cc in the viking in the future
I would seriously consider that unit. We have a 2014 Maverick, but we would like something more like the Viking. We have one kid, so the three seats would be awesome.
great bike , accessories are not well thought out like canam or polaris . just sold my 2021 viking for a 2022 ranger 570sp crew northstar , upcoming review on ranger 570sp crew?
Would you chose a viking base eps or a defender HD8? The viking strikes me as probably the best value for the money in the rec/utility segment, mainly because it comes with EPS and diff lock.
Great video as always i. Watch them all love this channel huge fan if it wasent for the off roading industry. Id have no fun due to being partial blind in one eye and fully blind in the other since i was born. And un able to get a drivers license atving and sxsing is my only escape from everyday non sence gets me out were i like to be in the woods explooring only wish i could come up and ride with dirttrax crew some time would be dream come true
I like on the Viking, how the door stays by you Until you close it, it doesn't stay wide open until you close it, I had a 2016 Teryx4, that the doors didn't have any spring to them and they would stay open until you closed it, and on a couple occasions, I forgot my door was open about ripped it off backing out of my shop
I'm glad your reviewing the viking. Cant wait to see the next video. How do you feel it would do on the Hatfield McCoy trails and southern West Virginia trails in general?
I think it'd do pretty good on most of the trails. It is a bit low on power for climbing some of the more aggressive trails, but for most of the systems you'd have a good time.
Being from Newfoundland where everything rusts, I'd rather have the lower part of the frame to be wrapped in plastic. I had a 2016 Honda Pioneer (with a very similar cage design) and after 4 years, the lower 8 inches of the cage was nothing but rust.
I just wish Yamaha would build a midsize Viking...say 58-60 inches wide. Not everyone wants a unit this wide and many trails are limited to units 60" and narrower.
I own a 2020, I like mine, it’s not a fast machine that’s for sure, too speed is 85kph. Engine is strong plenty of power. Brakes are a problem that Yamaha needs to solve, they are good but squeal from day one out of the factory. The only thing that I really don’t like is that there is no “Turf Mode”. Example is when at home and moving it around on your driveway. Very hard in your lawn is doing landscaping with it lol. Overall I love mine, for the price you can’t beat it.
Rangers are available with a ton more power so depends on what you need to haul around and how you intend to use the vehicle. I like the Viking, just wish it had AT LEAST the 850 in it.
Looking at this and the pioneer 1000 for my wife and son. Have an atv , but dont want to part with it to have a sxs. Does anyone find this under-powered ? Is it a fun trail rider?
We got the first 2014 Viking my dealer got in, other than it being loud, it was really nice. But that's long gone, I am legally blind, and my dad passed away from Alzheimer's, so I don't get to do anything fun like that anymore
The big problem with the UTV market today is how engineers are hard pressed to design around the publics' need for flash, style, pizzazz... a UTV that looks like it could fly... feeding the publics' insatiable need to be Batman (or Robin) in your own Batmibile, which is where the RZR and General make their mark. Then there's the Yamaha Viking, a UTV designed around solid reliability and functionality standards, it's 686 powerplant not meant to travel 100 KPH down a rural road but for muscling through muddy, rocky back wood trails, dual ball hitch ports front and back, ample towing and hauling capacity and a well designed hydraulically assisted cargo bed. With these machines pricing over 40-45,000 dollars today, I'm happy going old school in my 2018 Viking... no need to buzz around scaring the crap out of the wildlife.
I'd love to own a Viking if it had a smooth quiet parallel twin 850 or 1000. I was just quoted almost 16 grand out the door for this outdated underpowered utility vehicle. That's just ridiculous when you aren't getting anything better than the guy who bought one for thousands less back in 2014.
Here I am watching this product review which is the same review since the days of the Yamaha Rhino hoping wishing Yamaha did something new... nope. Darn you Yamaha, get me excited...wait you're holding out for the Grizzly. That's finally going to get the powerplant it deserves! A bed mat is too expensive? They cost around $100 shipped. Your goggles I'm sure cost more than a bed mat for your truck 😆
Me to my great grandchildren in the future: "2045 Grizzly was announced today... bold new graphics, reflective laser headlights and bio-metric ignition system!" Kids: "Wow Gramps...what engine?" Me: "686cc single".
LMAO!!!! Now that was a good one!
Well....you aren't wrong.....
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey let’s try a 708cc. Nope. Let’s go back to the 686cc. Oh wait that already happened.
@@mattscott7037 the 708 was an oil burning mess/mistake

I grew up riding japanese machines.Reliable, great fit and finish, superior dealer networking. Its morphed over to kubota in my heavy equipment.
Just put a set of 27 inch kimpex trail warriors on my 2024 viking. The improvement in ride and handling is amazing. Zero loss of low end power.

I think the Viking is really all that most people need ! I would fore go the centre console but other than that it’s good to go 👍🏻🇨🇦
Just purchased my 2022 EPS SE and absolutely love it. It's not going to win you any races but a perfect all around UTV.
I heard "What else can I tell you about this Viking" a few times. I think the reason is because there has been no difference since 2014. I own one. Great utility SXS...but it needs an update. Excellent review and I also watch and record the TV episodes. I love my Yanmar version of the Viking 700 EPS. Thanks for the review AJ.
Nice keep up the good work I love the reviews and stuff 😎🤙
Glad you're enjoying them!
Yamaha will last longer than 10 Polaris Rangers

I would seriously consider that unit. We have a 2014 Maverick, but we would like something more like the Viking. We have one kid, so the three seats would be awesome.
The engine is lame. It's a single cylinder and vibrates a lot. You will quickly tire of the lack of power.

Hey, thanks!
Hopefully picking up a 2015 Viking camo eps 3 seater this week. What all has changed over the years if anything much?
Great fyi on the Viking very good info. I’m looking to buy one. I’m 62 years old and my 2012 450 grizzly getting a little much to get on and off.
Love it entirely
What would be say top 2 upgrades for a more trail focused riding experience ? Would definitely put it on my list as like you said can carry 3 people.
Comparable to my Honda Pioneer 700....soon to be a 2021 Wolverine 850 X4, if the dealers here ever get stock.

I love Dirt Trax videos! Any idea idea if you guys will be reviewing any of the RZR 1000 models?

Good old Viking with the good old 686 single, great work machine. Any word from the Arctic Cat folks about test units?
Nothing yet, but calling daily!!

Always great vids. Unrelated: do y'all ever get change back and find a US coin and think to yourself how you're going to get rid of it?
Could be so much better to so many more people with more power and better suspension.
I had a 2014, now have a 2020. Great crossover vehicle. Parking brake next to useless on both.
Hahahaha yup, worst parking break ever. Stupid breaks squeal out from the factory. Also needs to have a “Turf Mode”
Being from Newfoundland where everything rusts, I'd rather have the lower part of the frame to be wrapped in plastic. I had a 2016 Honda Pioneer (with a very similar cage design) and after 4 years, the lower 8 inches of the cage was nothing but rust.
Needs a Park mode for the transmission and a Turf mode. Surprised they still don't offer these things.
Yeah, wish they had that too.
Just bought a used 2021 with 160 mi looks brand new. Where can I buy that bumper?
I just wish Yamaha would build a midsize Viking...say 58-60 inches wide. Not everyone wants a unit this wide and many trails are limited to units 60" and narrower.
Can you do an upgrade video on the Viking?
Nice video, nice vehicle, little spendy. Couple of Australia guys use it for pig hunting and they are high speed guys but they get pigs.
Can’t beat Yamahas!
I own a 2020, I like mine, it’s not a fast machine that’s for sure, too speed is 85kph. Engine is strong plenty of power. Oh and I forgot….. worst parking break, they need to change that and have something better.
So my question is. Can I get the rubber mat for my 2020 X2 R Spec?

We'll be there walking around! If you see us, be sure to say hi!!
Nice bro
Why they have an 850 twin that isn't in the Viking yet, I'll never understand....
Agreed 💯
Will I have to upgrade clutch on my Viking if I put 27 inch bighorns on it?
nice rig
Does the Viking have a factory skid plate? Are the front and rear tires the same size?
