I foresee the day some after-market company makes a biodiesel or wood-pyrolysis diesel unit, so the trucks can make their own fuel from wastes, for free. IIRC, turbine units can do that, though with some drawbacks.
Solar PV is coming down so fast in price and weight that, while it would never provide the power to drive a rig, it could lower costs even more, too as some kind of trailer cover.

Another possible application would be a hybrid cement truck. Here's why; many years ago I was laying block at the Tonawanda GM plant and we had a bunch of wall to grout. So we ordered a truck. Us guys were working up close to the ceiling when the truck had to come inside to discharge. It obviously had to run and man o man did it ever smog us out at the ceiling height. If that truck had been able to shut down and come inside the plant on battery and discharge everyone would have been better off. It wouldn't be a high sales volume application. But cement companies having at least one hybrid for those industrial interior applications, or just eliminating idle time while unloading in general, would be great. Great work guys.

  • @sauliaalto
    @sauliaalto 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +28

I don't know if u guys read the comments, but because you are intrested in technology in Europe, there is one thing what you should take to your trucks too. That is the liftable drive axle/ axles. That is saving lots of energy when driving empty, making the handling a lot easier and the most important thing is the liftable axles make the traction much better, with a load or without a load, it increases the load per axle and that way grip too, and that is very important feature in a logging truck. That would be a feature that other manufacturers can't respond out there in North America.

#8 the toyota, as someone who's been underground and works underground, Toyotas are everywhere. It's all that's driven with the few odd different transportation vehicles like minecats, but most mines, specifically portal mines (where you drive down) can sometimes have around 50 of those landcruisers.

It sounds like you're going to make yourself a proper business that earns the respect of your customers and then sells thousands of trucks. That's not how business is done these days and I'm happy to see you breaking from those "fuck the customer, make money for the shareholder" status quo businesses. Best of luck. Enjoying watching your journey. Kick the industry's ass at their own game.

the look of these new truck is really cool ,, the tri drive winch tractor especially ,not really a truck for everyone but when you need to pull something they are a beast ,,I actually own a similar size truck built in 1977 as an oilfield truck , mine is a peterbilt 359 tri-drive with a powered steer axle ,,it's also a bit of a frankenstein because someone in the past moved the cab back lengthened the hood and installed a 3412 twin turbo caterpillar engine according to the numbers it makes 1150HP ,, the 2 winches are monster braden 75 ton gear drive single line winches ,i live in farm country and over the years it's come in handy for removing stumps and pulling tractors and equipment out of mud ,,and with my salvage business it's very handy for loading trailers

Thats so right. New trucks have million miles (or km) on them from testing before the customer gets them and still customers/ drivers find things that are just not right.
Having partners that are willing to work with you, your truck and have the ability to work on those trucks will still cut time to market down significantly, because real drivers, real mechanics putting those beasts through real world challenges.

Hey from the other side of the Atlantic ocean.
I have been a diesel/hydraulic/ heavy-duty truck mechanic a Scania for my hole work life. I really dig the idea of keeping it simple and long lasting 30 years plus, you guys are basic building a giant Lego-kit, were future you can rebuilt, modified or convert a Edison truck to fit you operation without to have to require a complete new truck.
Keep up the good work guys.
By way the way, a die cast model Edison winch truck have to be made.

Hope to see an RV motorhome chassis next; send it to Elkhart, Indiana, for a camper body to be fitted and test drive across the country to Utah and back.
I can test it for you and record results; going from Indiana to Utah at the end of March for Offroad games anyway. Can display it at the games; many followers will be there.
The Long flats of Kansas and then the Rocky Mountains through Aspen would be a great test.
If a motorhome can handle the Rocky's, it can go about anywhere.
Mountains difficult to climb for any vehicle and need regenerative braking on the way back down to keep brakes from overheating.
Most vehicles climb at 30-45 mph, depending on load. If a motorhome can maintain speed with traffic while climbing mountains, that would be a great selling point.
Most RV's are underpowered unless built on an expensive semi chassis; ok on flat ground but underpowered when encountering hilly terrain.
Pure sine wave inverters would eliminate the noisy generator; roll through the campground in silent mode and recharge with high current RV outlets at the campground.
Considering the way RV's are used, it seems like a good fit; there are lots of charging times and advantages to the electric platform in RV use.
It is easier to justify the chassis cost if the vehicle is for pleasure and not commerce; it doesn't have to make money, just work well.
Solar panels and a portable wind generator to charge while boondocking.

In your next round of trucks you guys should look into doing a wet hose fuel truck. I drive one every day filling generators and tanks at construction and fleet yards. Figuring out how to integrate the PTO with electric would be great especially because fuel is so dangerous less ignition sources would be a huge plus.

There is a company here in Utah called Boyce Equipment & Parts Co. They take military surplus vehicles like the M35 2.5 ton and reconditioned to be good as new, even offering custom features and single axle options. I would not be surprised if they offer your D/E kits when the kits get off the ground.
