    Dude! Thank you for this video. I realize I'm discovering it a couple years late, but I'm doing a Mod 0 clone and this really helped get a good look at some of the available parts, versus just looking at stock photos on a vendors website. Thanks a lot! And grats on the setup!

    Hey Caleb can a crush washer be used to get proper distance with shims so ops inc brake will time without to many internal threads seen inside the brake when installed?

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There should be a supplied crush washer with the Ops Inc brake. Since the suppressor indexes and centers off the collar, the crush washer is fine to use.
      I hope that answers your question.

    Can’t make up my mind what to go with after weeks of research lol . Is the mod 1 not being monolithic a big deal ? Also , is the difference in weight that much ? ( want it as a do it all gun that can be rotted around and trained with lpvo) Do you think it would be worth getting A DD life rail would be most functional and best f both worlds( lightweight and monolithic) thanks

    I just picked up a BCM MK12 MOD 0 and MOD 1 uppers. Picked up a BCM lower Mod 0 , ergo grip to throw them on. The system works great! I have a Vortex PST gen 2 2-10x32 with A.R.M.S. 22 throw levers Loves 75 to 77 grain.

      Douglas Massaro that's awesome bro. have a bcm mod 0 lower sitting in my safe and I have no idea what to throw on top. Leaning toward their 14.5 pinned but Downing's mk12 looks good to go. Only downer is I live in a commie state so no suppressor for me

    Glad you gave the Mod 0 some love. It looks like it could be a Gen III PRI to me but with the correct rear sight the PRI's currently come with a in house built sight rather than the ARMS model. Chris Bartocci has a good video on the MK12's over on his channel. He has one on each different model.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Bartoccis videos are much more precise in the history aspect and breakdown of the parts. I probably watched his videos a dozen or so times while researching my builds. I love his content.

    I think the mod 0 is really cool, I’ve been wanting to build one, but I just ran across a KAC Vero Beach M4 Sniper RAS, got a good deal, 100 bucks, I can’t decide if I’m gonna put it on a Colt 16 in HBar I already have that has a rail already on it or build a mk 12 mod 1, those KAC rails are kinda scarce so I may just start buying parts and build the mod 1. I already have a surefire can do I would have to buy another AE can.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Mod1 is by far my favorite version of the Mk12. One piece at a time man, you’ll get it. And you may not “have” to get the AEM5, but that thing is a jewel of a suppressor.

  • @HMG5588
    @HMG5588 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How does your rifle shoot at say, 100 yards with 77gr SMK ammo?

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It shoots as good as the Mod1 does, which is very good. Depending on the day it’ll shoot .5-1.5 groups.

    • @HMG5588
      @HMG5588 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Box ammo or reloads? You should be able to get sub MOA groups at 100 yards with reloads. If you reload, try 24.0 gr of R-15 with the 77 gr SMK. This will produce about 2,550 - 2,600 fps out of a 18" barrel. Not quite Mk262 ammo. At least you should be able to establish an accuracy node with a milder load before you start shooting a hotter load like the Black Hills 77gr OTM. But if you can't get better than 1 MOA at 100 yards with the R-15 load, there's something wrong with your rifle. Building an AR-10/-15 rifle for accuracy is not trivial for any company or individual.

    • @CalebDowning

      Good info man 👍 thanks for the recipe. I hope to work up a load for this rifle, I just haven’t had time yet.

    • @racer3212
      @racer3212 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @alfredyu7213 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Douglas Massaro hows it going so there's not really much of a difference then , thanks for clarifying that , l guess its a matter of preference..

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think your correct there Douglas. The main thing is the 18” vs 16” barrel. That’d be a good question for Chris Bartocci...

    • @po9146
      @po9146 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The "Mod H" was a small batch of SPRs built/rebuilt in 5th Group ca 2007, with 3 general breakdowns:
      1) Built from parts off Brownells and elsewhere to decide what config would be desired, settling on 12" PRI Gen III rail, 16" barrel with Ops Inc contour and mid-gas. A few were black commercial uppers or later Colt ones with black handguards, didn't have a Noveske barrel and we still don't know what barrel actually was used. Maybe a Douglas, maybe a White Oak. Or rather at least one was of that first batch.
      2) Rebuilt original SPRs using the configuration they decided on during #1, reusing the upper/lower receiver but replacing most everything else. Some still had the spraypaint from the original SPR but the new FDE handguard, others you have to look close to see they still had the old Colt AF forge mark uppers. Many of these if not all had special Noveske 16" barrels. These had a heavier profile to mount the Ops Inc 12th Model, as the regular Recon barrel is not fat enough for the profile in front of the gas block.
      3) Ordered directly from Precision Reflex and work done under a small order/contract. PRI built uppers with their own parts and replaced some parts on the lowers as well. These had FDE coated uppers and handguards. These also likely had Noveske barrels, though some could have also been Douglas supplied by PRI. The world may never know.
      One of the issues is that the Mod H literally came from 2 guys, it wasn't a big program. Not everyone was a fan of them because at first they didn't come with the Recce rails, so guys were screwed on trying to mount optics just before deployments and had to buy/scrounge mounts. But, with the Recce rails later on they were pretty well regarded. Hell, they still get some use overseas.

    • @po9146
      @po9146 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As to the functional differences, well, it's very little.
      The Holland is lighter, more handy, and gives up maybe 50fps of velocity with the usual Mk262 used with SPRs. Out at 750-800 you might see a few tenths of a Mil difference in terms of elevation to hold or dial, and same on wind. I don't think the extra 2" on the Mod 0 is worth it or makes a major practical difference, nor the extra gas system length. By 800 yards you should really be looking for a different rifle/caliber, but it's nice to know a 16" 5.56 carbine can still get out there and make consistent hits if you, the shooter, don't suck.
      Inside that, there's not much of a reason to take a Mod 0 over a Holland aside from nostalgia.

    Very good video. Definitely not a "clone" LOL but a very nice build regardless. PRI did provide uppers to the military early into the GWOT but those are distinguishable by the pinned gas blocks and full auto rated BCGs. Every once in awhile a actual GWOT upper comes into civilian hands though it's pretty rare. When I built mine I sourced the GenIII hand guard, gas block/front sight, swan sleeve and muzzle device from PRI. The barrel is a WOA 1/7 SPR contour, BCM upper with BCM BCG, BCM Mod 3 CH, ARMS 22M rings. Aero Precision lower with a rifle buffer tube and A-1 stock. Also use the Geissele G2S and very impressed with this "budget" trigger. I find my rifle consistantly shoots .5-.75 with my handholds and shoots IMI 77gr M-262 style ammo between .5 to 1.0 MOA. Personally I really like the looks of the MK12mod0 and find this to be very accurate. Only downside is it does have some heft to it but that can be a plus to. I shoot DMR style competitions with mine and the weight really helps to keep the rifle steady and on target when having to put multiple shots on the same target in a timed event.

      Nice sounding build there. I keep meaning to get some reloading in for the 223/5.56 but keep procrastinating. What load data do you use for your Mod0, if you don't mind me asking?

    • @kevinstafford4475
      @kevinstafford4475 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My favorite hand roll in the MK12 is a Hornady 75gr BTHP match pill pushed by 24 grains of VIHT N-140 for right around 2600fps out of the 18 inch barrel. I use either LC or IMI brass. This load, at least in my rig, consistently shoots .5 to .75 MOA

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice 👍I’ll have to give it s try. Like I said, I’ve been meeting to do some loads but simply haven’t yet. Thanks for sharing your recipe 👨🏻‍🍳

    • @po9146
      @po9146 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They weren't pinned. There's 4 flats on the barrel like service rifles use, and set screws on the base.
      All Mk12s had F/A BCGs, standard M16 style. Only the prototypes expiramented with NP3 coated Young's MFG match carries but those were ditched.
      They're distinguished by the shape of the FSB itself, with the elevation wheel built in and a different profile than PRI had been producing until they recently added a copy of those 1st Gen FSBs to their catalog. They're also different from anything commercially available right now, as few of the ARMS #38 SPR MOD sleeves ever made it onto the market, especially with the double-spaced front rail section. Oh, and the 1st Gen handguards have some noticable differences from the current and past "Gen 2" offerings.
      Source: I've had one of those few legit SPR uppers in my possession for about a year, and it's going back home today.

    IIRC, the SPR/A and early Mod.0s have been spotted with the Mark IV 3.5-10x40 LR/T (not with the High rings but, meh). The only things really hindering the clone accuracy is the A2 reinforcement on the lower, the Geissele G2S (which, budget wise, is a gtg alternative to the SSA/SSA-E), the PRi PEQ-2 rail (excusable because the SPR Mod sleeve and the SPR-PEQ-2-3 rails are hard as hell to come by), the front sight tower (which PRi is making the Gen I again!), the lack of the #22 ring cap and #22 ring rail, and the Gen III handguard instead of a Gen I or II. But honestly, getting clone correct is a money pit, getting something that functions and looks the part enough is more important to most.
    Myself, I just got an SSA off the EE for 150USD shipped, which was all that was left to complete the lower (until I decide and have the money to get an A1 profile lower and a mil-spec slot driver pistol grip screw, not even going to try to get an A1 selector, the A4/M4 fits the part just fine).
    Now, for totally not clone correct, I really would like to see a Mod.0 with the #38 S-EX NSN 1005-01-469-7724 instead of the PRi PEQ-2 rail, the medium #22 rings, and a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 glass topping things off. Just thing that would look really appealing.

      That Frankie mod you mentioned would be really cool. It’s been said on the forum and it’s true that the actual Mk12’s can be improved upon, but then they wouldn’t be Mk12s. All we need is someone over seas, like CD, to put something together, snap a picture, and voilà a new clone is borne 😜

      I mean there's actually pics of the later Mod 0 with a 3.5-10 on it, dude just used the glass from the earlier SPR on his and put an RDS up on the TRR.
      The earlier prototypes actually did have an extended ARMS gooseneck like the S-EX, but they later went with the full rail. In all honesty, the full rail is needed with those older gen handguards because it literally ties it all together in one piece. Without it the handguard would totally come loose, they install WAY differently than the Gen III. Trust me, I've taken a couple apart.
      Oh, and there's actually a pic too of an OG SPR with a 2.5-10x24 on it in NF rings..
