  • Coming over from the Dominican Republic at the age of 14, Felipe Lopez quickly created a buzz around New York City with his exciting brand of basketball -- one that earned him the title “Spanish Michael Jordan.” Lopez went on to become a high school All-American at Rice High School in the Bronx, and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated as a college freshmen in 1994. Although his career didn't pan out as many had hoped, Lopez has taken the game of basketball to new heights by reaching the youths of New York’s inner city communities through education and guidance.

One of the most exciting H.S players EVER.Played on a strong Rice H.S team.He had alot of skills on the court and the flair to go with it.He just chose the wrong college( St.John's).Should've went to a school where he could've used his uptempo skills, but i think he stayed in NYC because of all the support he received from the Dominican community.

I been saying that since 1996, the pressure was to much and the coach was not the best....duke or UNC would have been better choice

He's a legend in NYC! One of the best players that ever came out from the "Big Apple" Much Love & Respect to a true playground legend!

Even as a kid I knew it was a mistake for him to go to St John’s because Lou carnaseca was not there .it was a new coach and his center and point guard were lousy. So Felipe would have done better at another established program
