Gundah is a word that can mean sadness + anxious. This song is very personal to Ernie because it is about her grandparents' love story. Her grandmother passed away due to cancer, and when she was sick, her grandfather cared for her. Her grandfather passed away not too long after that if I'm not mistaken. Ernie said every time she sings this song, she'd feel extremely emotional not only because of their strong love for each other, but also because her grandparents didn't get to see her success. Al Fatihah and the arabic wordings are what the Muslims recite when they heard about death. The arabic wording means “We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return", also used when a person experiences a tragedy in life.
What amazed me more about Ernie Zakri is we always know she will bring something different to the table on a big stage. This arrangement is way better than the studio version. It's like whenever she perform on a big stage you don't want to listen to the studio version anymore
The song was emotional to Ernie, it was composed for her late grandmother (thus the Surah Al-Fatihah and the prayers for the dearly departed at the end of the song in Malay language). And she has a very special relationship with her grandparents. Especially her grandfather who was left mourning for his wife. hence the title of the song 'gundah' which means sadness+anxious. The wearing of hijab does not coincide with marriage as you mentioned. rather, it is a decision a female takes when ever she feels comfortable to don the hijab. Many unmarried females wear it and many married females don't wear it too. Great reaction as usual! You highlighted the parts where I didn't even notice until you pointed it out.
There’s 1 thing you can count on at AJL. Everything is live. No prerecorded track or back up vocals. From music to vocals, everything is live. I guess that’s why it’s called the most prestigious music event in Malaysia. Singers who perform at AJL need to be really, really prepared.
U are right. Even though this event was being held with following the very strict SOP because of that COVID situation that time. That's why only the maximum of 6 people were allowed to be on the stage including the contestant. Therefore, the ochestra musicians and the backing vocal singers were being seperated quite far away from the main stage yet no audiences were been there watching at this event as well.
Hi Ovela! 1) The pianist IS famous. He is Aubrey Suwito, composer of so many songs and even jingles in Malaysia. He was also the music director for AJL 35 and he composed the arrangement of this song for AJL 35. 2) Yes, there were backup singers. There were positioned at the other side of the stage, at Ernie's left hand side, along with the orchestra. 3) Since you mentioned you are a beat maker and music producer, I think you need to check out the song GILA from AJL 35 that won the Best Song Award. The arrangement of this song (AJL version) was also made by Aubrey Suwito. There is a video on his channel on how he got the idea to compose the arrangement.
idk if you already know about this , AJL's finalist always bring new arrangement in their performance , Ernie Zakri always do something new to her music and thats succes to made people excited to see her performance
idk who told you about Ernie hijab , she is muslim but she is free hair before but now she decided to wear it , it nothing to do with her marriage. Plus she started wore hijab after her AJL34 performance in March 2020 and she married in March 2021
Al fatihah is for her grandma..innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun is word in arabic that muslim said if they heard about tragic incident..like people pass away, accident or anything, sorry i cannot explain it in engglish very well..i🫠👍🏻
That cloth also a tribute to her late grandmother ( which this song is all about) who used to wear that kind of traditional cloth last time- just this time the designer add on their creativity to make it bold on the stage.
You got the hijab concept all wrong here. We wear hijab as a form of worshipping to God. There’s nothing to do with marriage. It’s between a servant and his/her creator
The song is about her grandparents.. the love between both of them. about the love of her grandfather to her late grandmother.. the last one we normally read Al Fatihah for those whos passed away.. May Allah bless her late grandmother
She started wearing hijab just before she got engaged to her husband, Syamel. And then, they got married about a year after that, which was after this show, AJL35. And of course, she got pregnant when they already married. Means that, she was absolutely not pregnant in this show. It’s just the style/shape of the dress lol. You should watch the moment when she walked to the stage to receive her Best Vocal Award for this performance, she looked so cute lol. And recently, she just gave birth to their first child, just about a week before AJL36 and not be able to perform. Therefore, her husband, Syamel have to perform her song, Boneka on her behalf, on AJL36.
