  • The Wurkkos FC11 may be inexpensive, but it's an excellent option for EDC. You can purchase this flashlight here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...
    The FC11 is a single 18650 light with a USB C charging port. It is outfitted with the Samsung LH351D LED, which is a really great emitter that provides excellent color rendering. The light has both stepped and variable operation modes, and overall makes for a very good general purpose/EDC flashlight, all while coming in at only $30.
    This was not sent to me by Wurkkos, I purchased this light myself for review.
    I hope you enjoyed this video, I worked pretty hard on it. If you have any suggestions for me, please let me know in the comments below. If you have any questions, you can also ask them in the comments.
    Please consider liking this video and subscribing, it woud really help out the channel!

That is uncommon, i think, but i have been stuck in educating myself about flashlights past three weeks or so and have watched many videos like this. You sound like a pro and entertaining. Ater this research iv'e bought Wurkkos FC12 , Nitecore TK20 and the Rovyvon E28. They are all on their way,thanks to you and other reviewers alike. Good job ,man !

    Great review. The only thing to add is that where you weren't happy with the magnet strength, the magnet is removable. There's a retailer's video showing how easy removal is. This also means you could swap in a weaker magnet if you wanted to.

    Worth mentioning is this light seems to one of the few that support a USBC to USBC cables where as most with USBC only support a USBA to USBC cable. Nearly every charger I have is typeC meaning my cables I have on hand are USBC to USBC.
    Additionally, as an EDC light for me, this opens up the option of topping the cable off by use of my phone if the need arises (and it has). You could even charge it off another lamp such as the Q8 Pro if you wanted.

      Thanks for the extra info! C to C is an issue that has cropped up on a few of the lights I reviewed and I never knew, since I don't use a c to c charger for anything. It's something I'll have to start testing

    I just got this light. Its good for the price. perfect for spare light in the car or dresser, but its not the first one I would grab or rely on if i had to pick one. I got the 4000k one, and it has just a slight hint of green but not bad. You can tell its high CRI, the color rendition is great. only other bummer is the UI is just ok. I would have preferred Andrul 2.0 with the ability for the power light to flash while the light is in stand by.

    Nice review. The review is high quality, especially considering the amount of views you get. Only thing is you forgot to mention that the LED is less powerful because it has a high Ra rating (CRI). The FC11 is the most recommended torch on r/flashlight for newbies. The fast ramping has to be like that since if it was any slower it would be too slow to use. Since I'm a madman and have the wurkkos FC11 yet watch reviews on it, I think the astrolux S41 seriously contends with it, different battery and type of torch though.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you thought the review was good. I'm definitely working on the amount of views, but I figure improving the actual content and video quality is the best way to do that. I'll check out the astrolux, it looks pretty solid.

    • @shadowmaster8020
      @shadowmaster8020 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LuxWad The S41 is a remake of a discontinued torch, the Manner E14. You have the manker E14 III/generation 3 (but for one of those you might as well buy an Emisar D4V2) or the astrolux S41. I find them ever so beautiful and the UI isn't too bad either, on the S41.

    I agree with you about the drawback. I feel like if they could regulate the high at a slightly lower point, it would feel more solid with a more consistent output over time. in my opinion, that is what makes the light "pro" so you can rely on the output levels to be there when you need it. (as long as the battery is good)

    Wurkkos FC11 seems really great for budget EDC. I might have to get one! Another that might compete with it is the Sofirn SC31Pro which is running Anduril firmware and has USB-C charging. It's using an SST40 reaching 2000 lumens but it's not going to beat the LH351D for CRI and tint quality. I like a simple 3 mode flashlight Anduril firmware has an easy way to set custom stepped modes or use ramping and still have access to turbo and all the other features. You can even use it as a thermometer if the temperature is calibrated and the flashlight is at room temperature!

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A review of the SC31 Pro would be fun, I would like to do a comparison between that and the FC11. I probably won't get around to it before better things are released though, I guess we'll see.
      Anduril is pretty awesome, I only recently got a pair of Emisar D4V2s which use the firmware and I really like it. I now kind of wish I could have it on most of my other flashlights too. I think I'm eventually going to make a tutorial video for the interface, it's pretty easy to use but a lot of people find it too complicated and it might be helpful to make a video guide for it.

    • @practicalguy973
      @practicalguy973 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LuxWad Agreed, some people find Anduril complicated but it's nice and easy once you get the hang of it. I have the GT Nano with NarsilM firmware and that is a pain to use. At least Anduril is simple to navigate. I've got a few Anduril flashlights and the D4V2 are some of my favorites. I have one brass with SST-20 in 5000k and the other grey aluminum with Nichia E21A in 4500k, with the raised switch ring and stainless steel bezel. The brass one is heavy so I never EDC it. The E21A LED is one of the best ever made and most efficient. But mine is a couple years old and Hank gave me and other people a driver that is not great. It has to do with the E21A being 2.1watt LEDs which is not common so a strange driver was needed. I think it's about half the battery life compared to the SST20 version which is a shame. I only did my test by eye with both of them doing ceiling flood and apprearing to be about the same brightness of 200 lumens. Since then he's been providing much better drivers for the E21A from my understaning. I ordered the Wurkkos FC11 from the Wurkkos website for on sale for $22.10 and they had options for the LH351D in 2700k, 4000k and 5000k it will be the first LH351D I own in 4000k! The price is amazing for this.

      They're pretty different, the Convoy has many more options but is simpler overall - no charging or fancy interface. If you're on a really tight budget or want a specific LED/driver, get the convoy. Otherwise and for most people, I think the FC11 is the better option

      Wurkkos also has the newer FC12 that looks really good. There's also the Ts21 which I reviewed, it's an excellent light but a bit fancier and more complicated. The Sofirn SC31 Pro is a great light that's very comparable, it's brighter and runs Anduril.
      Convoy had several excellent budget lights in the 15-30 dollar range as well. The S2+, C8+ and M21E are great.

    My FC11 doesn't have the 2 lumen moonlight mode? 🤔 When I press and hold the side switch it turns on the low mode (50 lumen). I have compared to my other lights and the lowest mode I can get on my FC11 (by holding from off) is significantly brighter than my Olight Seeker 2 Pro, which has a 5 lumen moonlight mode.

      As a total package, I think the FC11 is better, with a (subjectively) superior interface, USB-C charging, and better optics (though I haven't actually used the S2 with the LH351 + OP so I can't compare that).
      The FC11 has been reliable and is built fine, but that's all, so the Convoy will be more durable. It's also better for modding of course. Personally, I might recommend just buying both because they're so cheap, but if you could only get one, I like the FC11 better as a practical option.

    So, practically speaking it is a 300 L flashlight? Thats a shame but I can't find many flashlights that have a high CRI so this might be the best one for me.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      More or less. The truth is, no single 18650 light is giong to put out 1,000 lumens for very long. Personally, I find 200-300 to be the sweet spot, and much more than that is actually too bright for most usage.
      That being said, the step-down here is timed, so you can turn it off, wait for it to cool a bit, then turn it back on to turbo, and you'll get close to 1,000 lumens again until it steps back down. This will rapidly drain your battery though.
      If high-CRI is your priority, this is definitely the one to get. This is about the maximum usable output you'll get out of the LH351 and a single 18650.

      I like the FC11 more, it has high-CRI and a more simple user interface. They are both very good though, whichever one you like more is the one to get.

      Depends on what you want, the FC11 is a simpler light that's way better for most people but the TS21 is better for enthusiasts. I think the TS21 is a better value at the same price though

      @@maksymkryvyy4161 Did you watch my TS21 review? It's a great light but it doesn't sustain it's high output super well, and it uses the complicated Anduril UI which I love but it's not for everyone. However it does allow you to configure the thermal stepdown so you can sustain more output, but it gets pretty hot.
      It does have more lumens than the FC11, so if you just want something bright, it's the better option.

      Is the thermals of the ts21 that bad?

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not great but because it's bigger than the FC11 it will be better thermally at the same brightness. The heat comes from having three LEDS instead of just 1. It will be much brighter though. I prefer the high-CRI 4000K version but if you get the 5000 or 6500K it will be brighter and less hot.

    You need to improve on the beam shots , they dont do this torch any favours at all. There is no mention of distance and shoots of inside house come on. You did mention 100 meters but no beam shot. not cleaver in snow. no ramping mood shown.

    I can't agree with calling an 18650 flashlight "perfect" for EDC. It's too big. There are just too many things that need to be in our pockets these days...you all know as well as I do. Wallet, keys, self-defense items, phone, etc. and my EDC flashlight MUST clip inside one of my front pockets in such a way that it leaves nearly the entire pocket available for a phone or other EDC item. It's so easy to do that...just makes no sense to dedicate an entire pocket to one's flashlight. That said, I know an 18650 flashlight doesn't take up a whole pocket and CAN clip to the side, but it's a wide enough diameter that it makes it hard to get a full-sized man's hand in and out of the pocket to fetch other things, not to mention that it does take up enough space (both the diameter and the length) that it's obnoxious and gets in the way of other pocket contents. Additionally, I can never call an EDC flashlight perfect if it doesn't have a tail button for tactical deployment. A side button is pointless. The nearest thing to PERFECT I've found is the EagleTac D25A in that it is 0.7" diameter (using a 14500 battery), is VERY bright, is only 3.4" long, has a strong pocket clip that 1) lets me clip it onto my pocket (from the inside) without tearing up my pants material while 2) holding tightly so it almost never comes out when I don't want it to, and 3) let's nearly the entire flashlight sit down in my pocket (rather than an inch or more sticking up like many flashlights) so it doesn't get snagged on things or come loose or look stupid. Obviously a 14500 doesn't last nearly as long as an 18650, and for someone that uses their EDC flashlight for hours a day, a 14500 flashlight isn't an option. I use my flashlight many times every single day, but they are a few minutes here and there...not hours. Also, the EagleTac D25A when configured to go immediately to Turbo mode in a single click (necessary for tactical readiness), makes it more of a hassle to switch to lower intensity levels...you can't just press the button a 2nd or 3rd time, you have to twist/loosen the head a 1/4 turn to access the lower brightness levels, and that's dangerous because you won't always remember (or want to) tighten it again for that Turbo tactical readiness. So that's it's biggest shortcoming. Other than that, it's the nearest thing to a perfect EDC I have found. Bigger than that becomes a hassle, and anything that's a hassle is probably not going to come with me every day the way it should.
