I get it. I'm back to just a Delica. No clip, gray FRN scales. It was a fun game for a good while, but I'm trying to be less of a consumer, more of a minimalist... decided to liquidate while there's still a healthy used market. Less weight is always better, and all my 'collections' are weighing me down.
I second on that delica… 20 plus years ! Have others but 95 percent it that delica ( and same one). Delicas and other spiders all over the house . In the trucks … keep giving to the grown daughters for years . ( when I asked them what they have on them if they don’t have it, they get another one.) My love for the delicate comes from a couple different directions . First, my brother gave me one over 20 years ago and it replaced my everyday carry of a craftsman (made by Camillus )5 inch lock back used for 10 years elevator trade. Second, I love that knife. I used it for everything almost abused it. … It was a workhorse. It was the steel sided one.. With all that use and muscle memory… it came into play when I was jumped downtown Atlanta in the underground parking.. bum with a piece of pipe came at me from one of those large concrete pillars… here I’m a blue-collar worker and I’m not a small guy… but I got to tell you that knife was out in my hand without a conscious thought… seriously I don’t think I thought a second about it. Just the whole thing about muscle memory, and that thumb hole…. Hell the guy did a 90 right in front of me. Oh, by the way, this was right before lunchtime…, Soo that’s why I am a believer in this knife. They can be fairly cheap…. Oh, and like when I hit the blade show there’s quite a few dealers to have these used… so I pick him up either personally inspecting them used or buying them off of reputable dealers on eBay. I tried caring, larger spiders… Enduros , police models … my hand just naturaly grab those though .. My one son-in-law loves the paramilitary 2 . For some reason wife only wants to carry her native that she got at the blade show 6 or 8 years ago. But to all of this family ,,, it’s nice to know you’ll have to give much thought to how you open any of these knives… Now let me talk about the fixed blades I have scattered around the house……
I just got some colorful titanium scales from Lynch NW for the delica that made this knife my favorite in the collection. It adds a forward finger choil and has beautifully drilled holes that remind me of something from olamic cutlery
Understood. I’ve started liquidating all that I don’t use, don’t use much at all, or might be a reliability issue, e.g. ball bearing pivots. I’m making a single exception to ball bearing pivots: a Viper Oniro. I just like it. What will I keep? I won’t know until I’m done.
Yours is that very rare trusted voice on a platform that does not often these days reward that particular quality. Thank you for being someone that gets enough joy from the things he’s passionate about not to put up with bullshit that lessens it. Legit well wishes from a stranger who aspires to be half as persnickety. Nonsense or knowledge, I’ve enjoyed all of it.
You’re videos are always a welcomed treat, I’m sad to hear that it’s getting harder to crank that creative engine on, so I hope you take things slow as to not run it to the ground. I’ve been changing up the hobby for myself for a while now trying to explore different knives but i imagine I’ll be spent soon and in need of something else to spend time obsessing over.
Thanks for the video, Nick. Informative and entertaining as usual. Do what’s best for you, man. I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Your video opening the TSA confiscated knives is probably the funniest and most entertaining TH-cam video I’ve ever watched. You are a gem, sir. Hope you do an on screen collab with Metal Complex one day that would be great. MC impersonating you just isn’t the same. lol Have a good day.
Hey Nick, so sorry to hear you're having a hard time. I really appreciate you sharing with us though; joys are multiplied when shared and sorrows are divided so keep sharing as energy permits. Take care of yourself and know that you have a ton of people who support you for who you are, not what you produce.
Hi Nick. It was great to see your new content come up on my subscription list. And believe me, I totally get the burn-out and completely unplugged from my career about a year ago as a result. It's been nice to hit the reset button. I thoroughly enjoy my Grimsmo Norsemen and Panchenko, stay well my friend. By the way, my wife was very happy to hear your voice in the background and joined in too!
I've got that exact model of the McKenna. Loved his designs and I'm glad I got one before he passed. Still regularly carry it despite my preference for larger knives. A true gentlemen's carry.
Hey Nick, I know there's a ton of comments saying the same thing but I'm going to add to them. We all love you and what you do and you've got the best personality out of all these knife guys. You're probably not the type of person that cares but I am going to pray for you and hope that life starts becoming more enjoyable for you. Anything you post is welcome because as much as things suck for me, listening to you talk is such a joy that I can forget the BS for the 20 mins you bless us with.
Hey Nick, you are the best!🤗Thanks for sharing your EDC collection with the community. You are an icon in the EDC community, and hearing your voice always brings me joy.😁 I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a quick recharge of your spiritual energy.😊
My daily is a PM2 Salt, with a TRM Holey Nerd in Ultum as my city carry. I love Ti scales, but generally they make most knives to heavy for me to carry. (I spend a lot of time in gym shorts)
I managed to pick up a Panchenko GT (#52) when they dropped and continue to look for a Rook, the right one, on the aftermarket. Good "seeing" you, Nick. ✌🏼🤘🏼
I feel this level on burnout so deeply. I was fortunate enough to be promoted at work and that change of pace has been lovely. Vero Engineering is a company I've been fond of lately, especially the Lux model. Very good stuff.
It's strange how we feel burnout differently. I recently demoted myself because of burnout. Almost unheard of where I work; only one other person has done it in 50 years. It's great, much less responsibility, don't have to think about work at all when I'm off, etc.
@@dcamnc1 I tend to get bored when there's nothing left to learn, no new tricks to learn. I work in a factory so tedium is the name of the game. I'm working in a completely different department now so it's all new and exciting. For now...
I'm glad I picked up a second Smooth Precision Pen on final closeout. I love the weight and feel of the copper, prefer it to the titanium pen I purchased from him years ago.
I always appreciate a Nick Shabazz review, even though, I am more into watches, and a lesser extent, pens, with knives a distant 4th after leather goods. My actual EDC consists of a rotation of watches (more than I actually need but hey, it’s a thing, a Fisher Space Pen or Parker Jotter, and a Victorinox knife. Mini champ Alox on the keychain always, and a Climber, Tinker, Spartan or Pioneer Alox close at hand in my desk drawer or car glove box. I know knife guys like yourself most be horrified, but that is basically all I need from a pocket knife.
Not on your list but I love the KNAFS lander 2 you introduced to us is my favorite and brings me joy. It's not jewelry but is in fact is just a knife and a great one.
This video is exactly why I PATRONize Nick. The important technical details, but experiential and so descriptive that I know exactly which of these knives I want to look at. And I agree, smaller sizes are better. I am all for less frequent, more thoughtful videos from Nick. It turns out that I have spent a fair amount of money on items that Nick reviews have played heavily into my decision to purchase. I do not believe the TH-cam algorithm takes this into account. If they did, I think Nick’s channel would rank very highly among advertisers and sponsors.
What a great mental exercise. I admit that I have a similar innate compulsion with my watch collection. And sometimes I'll catch myself thinking "what would the community like to see me wearing (or talking about) today" (cool points) versus just what fits MY mood, desired level of comfort, features, or just plain fun. Often times, these things do not align 😅 Great message, Nick!
Big fan long time, staying subscribed. With cases of nice knives I carry a small teal dragonfly that doesn’t cost me extra seconds to get measured through security at work.
The McKenna is the oldest knife still in my EDC rotation. SO good. Just wish I would’ve gotten a 154CM version before they all sold out, but Civivi D2 still brings me a lot of joy ✌️
Those PM2 and 3 scales look really good. I need a set! Knives have gotten pretty pricey. When $100 knives are now considered to be “budget” it’s just rough. I still somewhat enjoy them.
Don't get into watches! :) Congratz on your Tissot PRS 200! Enjoyed my Tissot (PRC 100 titanum) for 16 years. I still use it as my prefered dresswatch and keeping it running with regular battery updates (every 18-24 months or so on my PRC 100). The PRS 200 looks really good!!!
Agreed trm is amazing w lizard skin metal. Check out the American Blade Works button lock, its equally amazing. Made largely by one guy and a very small team for the love of making a great American made product.
"many factories that are making knives because they've heard you can make money making knives" ~Nick That's a great quote and one that the knife community needs to sit and process for a moment. There is a lot at play here to take advantage of your passions for knives. And that passion can lead to overspending and the rise of knife prices, benefitting no one. I'd love to see a different mentality among TH-cam reviewers - quality over quantity. Let's reward the best knives through purchase but slow the cheap mass production industry down. It's doing nothing positive for us consumers or the planet.
Nick I wish you the best first and foremost. I dont have nothing fancy it just isnt in the cards however when I reach for something its what I get out of carrying it. I have to buy knives that make since to me. I make sure it has my preferred method of deployment and ride goods in the pocket. Also if it satisfies me when I use it. Right weight, right size, satisfying action and if do I care if it gets used or not. So I dont buy knives that will just sit in my drawer. Have a good day and hope to see you return

Lately I’ve been a bit of the same way and kept my edc basic. Series 9 Apple Watch, v2 AirPod pros, north arm skaha 2 in magnacut, ti reylight pineapple mini and a speakeasy leather wallet.
I kick myself for not grabbing a bass mckenna with Damascus back when they were more available and a little more affordable. I will find one sooner or later, and I think it would be even more attractive with a titanium clip. I think that little TRM you have would look good with a custom clip as well. But, that’s just my personal opinion. Fine collection. I recognize some of these knives from years ago.
If only we could get more of these amazing designs in true left handed variants so they have the scalloped areas, the locks pushed the correct way, and you have the clip on the opposite side. I would love a couple of those with variants but sorrow and suffering is the left handed lot.
maybe its just because I am not familiar with them but a lot of these fancy knives all starting to look the same, not easy for me to tell from one maker to the next
