Big Picture: The 24th Infantry Division in Korea
DVD copied by Master Scanner Thomas Gideon. Department of Defense. Department of the Army. Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. U.S. Army Audiovisual Center. (ca. 1974 - 05/15/1984). This is the story of the 24th Infantry Division in Korea and of its magnificent performance. The 24th Division was formed out of the old Hawaiian division shortly before Pearl Harbor, and it fought bravely in many decisive battles in the Southwest Pacific that followed. With victory, it went on occupation duty in Japan. When war came again, the men of the 24th were the first Americans to reach the bitter and tragic soil of Korea. In this film presentation, viewers will follow the history of the 24th Infantry Division from their first difficult days of battle in Korea until November 1954, when the proud colors of the Division marched in Korea for the last time. This is the first program dealing with a division that fought in Korea. Five other division histories will be covered in subsequent programs to be released.
My grandfather Arthur Palomo passed away just a month ago today. He fought in the 24th in Korea and would always tell me stories. He was very proud of his service and the service of all 5 of brothers in WWII. I miss him so much

My grandfather died 3 years ago and he was also in the 24th in korea. C CO 19th Inf Reg, 24th Inf Div. I wonder if they knew eachother?

My father was in the 24th Division 19th inft reg Co E in the Korean War.. A lot of good men fought and many died in combat for the freedom of all people.. Thank You all, and God Bless you all..
My father also served in the 24th Division, 19th infantry reg. Not sure of his company. He died in 1995. I remember him telling me stories of him while he was in Japan prior to the war. He really didn't say much about the war itself other than all the buddies he lost . He was wounded in action in Korea. I kind of knew how horrible the war was. My mother use to tell us of the horrible nightmares he had. I will always be thankful for men like my Dad and your Dad. We owe so much. God bless you.
I was in Korea 1956-57 assigned the Hq & Hq Company 24th Division Honor Guard. However, they told me I marched like I was pushing a plow, so the Honor Guard didn't work out for me. So they made me the Day Room orderly in the Division Hq. We had a pool table, ping pong and shuffleboard. I had to keep the Day Room clean and managed. I did such a good job I was presented an award for cleanest Day Room in the 24th Division personally by General Charles Bonesteel III, Commanding General of the 24th Division. I am proud to have served my country with my broom.
My Father passed away this last week we found the Taro leaf on his old uniform from the Korean war. He told us some stories but vague.
SilencedHero I’m sorry to hear he has passed. I wonder if he ever knew my grandpa. My grandfather was Jesse Alberto Murga. He served two tours on the front lines of combat in Korea. He was a real badass and a true American hero. He passed 2 years ago.
CAVKING19DELTA TEXAS What a brave man. Laid down his life for our country. Brave man. It’s crazy that some men like my grandpa can come out of that kind of fighting in one piece. He probably had many bad memories of war, but he never talked about it so I don’t know

II Richard A Stewart served in the 24th division NATO Strike forces Augsburg Germany 1964-1966 Reese Karesen Jobs communication..jeep driver. For Bn deployed Turkey..Norway...Greece. I live in xxxxs Petersburg Virginia if anyone still living..God bless you
I served with the 24th in Munich Germany for six yrs. at Warner Kasern.

3rd battalion 21st infantry regiment 1st brigade 25th infantry division. Never ran in to someone from the different battalions of the 21st before.
My dad was there, he passed 12/14/2020 at 91 years old.
His older brother was killed there in a different outfit.
