My Dad was in the 7th Division during WWII all four campaigns . I remember seeing the ribbons in a wooden dovetail box when I was a kid .He talked some about the funny things that happened during the war but not much else. after he passed away I researched his war record , it was only then that knew more about what happened during the war. he did tell me about cold feet, frost bite, walking on miles of coral. the jungle, capturing a Japanese solider, a Japanese sniper shot the crystal off of his watch when he was landing on the beach. he lived life on the edge every time he got leave never thinking he would survive the next campaign .

My Gramps was with the 7th all the way through and stayed on for the occupation of Japan. He only talked about it once and said the Japanese soldiers fought like demons. They’d put heads on pikes everywhere to startle night patrols. He said when they went through Attu that the bloody snow really did a number on him.

I like seeing comments by proud offspring and relatives. Many of My relatives fought in or served in WW2. My Maternal Grandmother’s Cousin , Anthony Bello of San Jose California also served in the 7th and was with it from the Begging. Sadly He was killed in action on Leyte.

@wolfen244 wow, it's amazing as my dad ever spoke of his war experiences. I am stunned the 7tb was such a bad ass group. My dad was wounded at Leyte

Fail to remember A certain marine Corps General who took command between the death of General Buckner and vinegar Joe. They shipped vinegar Joe out from DC to take command because they did not want a Marine to command a full army!
