    Just an excellent presentation. So refreshing to get the clear tones and so well and precisely played. Nothing more useless than reviews that show only the distorted tones that can be achieved with just about any decent guitar and give absolutely no idea of what the guitar actually sounds like.

    🔵 got myself a beautiful used G5120T in black one month ago - loved it so much , became an instant Gretsch fan after ignoring them the past forty years whilst strictly playing acoustic guitar ;
    two weeks after the G5120T , got myself a brand new G5622T in walnut stain w/Hilo'trons ❕😏

    Shit - I get teary eyed listening to Richard Barrets playing very similar to the Allman Brothers mellow songs. His playing is the most beautiful expression of why I love the sounds electric guitars make - especially Gretsch ones. beautiful sounds - beautiful playing!!! Thank you Richard for the time it must have taken you to be such a pro on your instrument!!

    excellent demo man...Guitarist always gets such a nice tone (and it certainly doesn't hurt to have tasty players such as yourself at the helm).

    Gretsch in my opinion offers the best low to mid price range guitars. You get so much bang for you buck with those things and the build quality is always fantastic. I tried out a streamliner g2622 the other day and it blew me away. Just as good as some of my expensive guitars and maybe even better than one or two.

    Excellent review (which I'm a little late to!). I have the G5420TG 135th Anniversary model. What Richard didn't mention is the pinned bridge on these, which makes a big difference in stopping the bridge skating around if, like me, you use light gauge strings and can get a bit 'enthusiastic'.

    Great vid. Thx. My 5420T I can attest is a wonderful guitar. Did you mention a synthetic bone nut? Mine stays spot-on in tune right out of the box. Such a great solid feel and beautifully crafted. I feel like I’m holding a piece of history. I consider it the first ‘real’ guitar that I’ve ever owned. [Finally]. Well-worth saving up for one. If you can afford the Streamliner level models, I recommend that you be patient and save just a bit more and start at the 5420. While all Gretsch guitars are damn good, to me. there is a big difference in the sound and stability at the 5420 level. It will encourage and reward you to play. Cheers!

    Yes, a wonderful demo video, not only of your soothing, skilful playing Richard, but the guitars are extraordinary in craftsmanship and sound... I think these sound quite a lot nicer than their centerblock cousins, but what I am afraid of is the supposed feedback I would get.... I play in a cover band and am looking for a sound like this for my soft latiny jazz songs, but these guitars look like they could rock out as well, but at what volume need I be concerned for feedback... venues are basically bars, restaurants, parties etc ... any advice or suggestions from anybody would be most helpful... I have always played strats, les pauls and my wonderful old PRS artist, and other solid bodies, but am searching for a smoky sound like these beauties produce (with a nudge for your wonderful playing too Richard :) my favourite of these two is the G5422TG mm mm mm!

Thx for that! hmmmmm... i thinkwith the G5420T you hear the more volume of the body: darker, more low end and really a bit more on the acoustic side. The G5422TG sounds a bit tighter, loses some low end but propably is the better for more distorted stuff ...also more handy and easier to play in higher frets. Hmmmm... thats really dificult, jesus.

      Hi Phil, thanks for the feedback! Working with Martin (who records and produces these videos) I'll come up with a riff/chord idea, while he programs some drums to suit. Then I'll go for a proper 'take' on the rhythm guitar to set the structure and overdub solos and some bass - sometimes in that order! Martin then mixes/masters/edits the shots - which are always from live takes, so no pressure 😀

    I love my G5422, but I think Yamaha in the 60s & 70s came up with a better system than anybody else, on their SA30/SA5/SA50 models, by instead of having 2 volume pots, employed one tone, one volume and a balancer/pan knob which infinitely blended the two pickup volumes when the toggle selector was in the middle position. No other manufacturer to my knowledge has done this.

    Nice that they dumped that huge ELECTROMATIC from the headstock.

      I like it with the electromatic logo on the headstock,looks much cooler and era correct.This naked headstock on the newer looks very generic to me and much like the entry level Streamliners.Meh.

      @@savanaviolenta However, the new headstock has the advantage of being smaller, therefore less angle in the strings at the nut, therefore less binding, less tuning problems. The quality, overall, did a step up within the last few years as well - these are great guitars, by no means anywhere even close to cheaply made. Love my 5420 (and 2622, too).

      @GretschDog Except the G5420TG-59 LH. I've previously owned a G6119 pro line and personally I think the Electromatic is a better guitar.
