My exact thoughts, nothing I hate more then wanting to hear that beautiful 'Gretch Sound' when comparing the pick ups and they go into that heavy distortion.
I own two guitars in that model. They are great at a lot more than the stuff he is playing here. Very versatile guitar. The stuff he is playing is what that kind of guitar does better than any other, though.
@@jeffreybiscoe6 I know the feeling. The Guitarist I knew growing up had an Early-Mid 1960s Gretsch Country Club, he was basically a Lounge Player, but played a lot of Jazz songs and Brazilian numbers, in addition to Rock, Country songs and Hawaiian Music (he was from Hawaii). I dug the Guitar he owned and when I could (almost) afford a 5420, which I had tweaked closer to the Country Club vibe as opposed to the 6120 vibe. I knew about Chet Atkins, but I wasn't particularly aware of Rockabilly until much later. I knew Rockabilly Players uses Hollowbody and Semi-Hollow Electrics (in addition to Fenders), but wasn't aware of the Gretsch connection until more recently.

I was so impressed with the sound you demonstrated I went out and purchased a G5420T in Orange, now all I have to is learn how to play it like you, wish me luck with that. Musicman2xs
I'm a South African guy, and I'm not normally given to posting comments, but I've got to say, you're an awesome player, and that's qualified by the fact that I'm a great Chet Atkins , Tommy Emmanual, and Doc Watson, amongst a host of others, fan!
Just fabulous picking, tone, and taste. You've convinced me to leave the stock pickups in my 5420! There's just now enough difference between the Blacktops and the high price spread.
To be creative is not a thing of the past. Mr. Holgi shows us in every respect of the word. I never new that when a beautiful guitar in a Masters hand could turn out very way KOOL. thanks for the far-out session, looking for more in the near future.
Love this demo your playing and tone. I have a few Gretsch guitars and appreciate a non distorted player. You gave it every style music. Excellent examples of what a great player can do with a non expensive guitar. I watched this multiple times over the years for inspiration. Thanks for sharing your talents.
Being 67 and have been playin the same 6120 DC for the past 51 years I g've adv'ce to my younger fr'ends/ Just recently I recommended a 5422 to one\ but after your v'deo I am changing my recommendation to a 5420 You covered them all That was fun
no not bad at all but 5420 seems to have a much more jazz feel 5422 may be leaning to blues and rock a bit more/ The young guy = he is onlyf 20 plays jazz though
This things been my dream guitar since I was like 15, except in orange 😋 Beautiful playing dude. Really shows what its capable of. Mr. Sandman and Girl from Ipanema sounded amazing
Very nice playing.. Found your site here just last week...Bought your album yesterday.... Going to take delivery on my 5420 next week.. Been playing for quite some time.. Mainly blues.. Really like your Rockabilly, Country Swing sound..
Hey Rob in Australia. That is some of the best guitar sounds in a demo I have ever seen, totally suited to that guitar I have that model guitar good as gold cheers Rob
You are a wizard on the guitar, Thank's for showing what a 5420 sounds like in the right hands. I've just got a new one but I am only learning. THANK'S.
I've just come across a video I last saw 6 years ago. I complemed you then and it was just as good now. I also bought the same guitar in Aspen Green after your video. I still can't play like you but I love playing my Gretch.
I have that same guitar (in orange stain) arriving Monday. Can't wait! Hope you are still around to read this - great playing - I mean REALLY great playing!!😎!
Buddy Holgi NO SIR.... THANK YOU!!! Because of your demo, I pulled the trigger on this guitar over the Epiphone Swingster. Happy New Year and Keep them videos coming well past 2016. You really show what a guitar can do.
Super. Könnte ich nur 1 % so spielen wie Du. 😢
... love all of these tunes and your take on them ... superb ... this is what I'm talking about ... my first guitar a Gretch in 1956-57 ... always a soft spot for that instrument ...
🔵 really great playing ❕ got myself a used mint G5120T in black single cut w/larger headstock (same as here) & thumbnail inlays , and became an instant Gretsch fan - after forty years strictly playing acoustic ❕😊
Outstanding demo! Great song and style selection to show off the wonderful sounds of this guitar. I tried the Electomatic at a local store and was totally impressed with the sound, feel and setup. I played through a Fender Deluxe. A very well crafted guitar and great value for the money.
Hi Miklo, if the bridge screws are a bit loose and wiggly, they may rattle. I give them a slight turn with a screw driver, maybe some locktite to fix it. If the bigsby isn´t used too extremely, it keeps in tune quite well. I use 011 guage strings. I had some trouble with the neck PU, it had drop outs, a wggly contact. I got myself a G5129 now, which has single coils and suits my playing much better. Thanks for the compliment!
Well, I'm older , been playing longer but I am pretty sure yours has more notes on it than mine does! Great job. Tech 21 Calif Blonde pedal? Wow. We even play the same tunes while Noodling around!!! That's a little spooky.
Yes, besides my amp emulation Tech21 Blonde I put some reverb on it. Maybe I have a different way to pluck the strings than you, that makes a big part of the sound too.
Superb playing. I like these Electromatics very much; I play a 5620T and the new 2420T Streamliner. Both excellent guitars which sound great through my Peavey Bandit and Envoy. Solid state amps seem to suit Gretsch pickups better than most. Thanks for sharing your playing.
Great playing. I've been wanting a Gretsch for years. When you went into the Ventures and Walk Don't Run (which I love to play on my Martin accoustic) it blew me away.
Very nice! I just started taking guitar lessons. I have a nice B.C. Rich and a Tele. I think I will add a Gretsch to my building collection. I really dig that sound. Thank you.
Finally someone playing the stuff, that this guitar is built for! Great! :)

Love this! Also agree that it is great to hear this guitar played without distortion.
And no mods
I came to see a guitar review, but stayed for the playing!
Thanks :) I tried to cover the clean spectrum of sounds a sgood as possible.

Best demo of this guitar i've seen.
thanks John!
I've been coming back to this video for years, just to sit back and listen to your beautiful playing. Thanks for all the good jams.
Thanks for the kind compliment Glad you like my playing.

Nice playing You really make that Gretsch sing!
All these years later, I keep coming back to enjoy this video. Thanks.

Nice playing man. This is a solid demonstration of this guitar being played well. I really like Gretsch guitars, and this one sounds right. Thanks
Thanks, glad you like it!
What a treat to hear this level of versatility. I wish I could play like that on my Gretsch.
The very first second of this vid put a smile on my face. Finally some music that suits this kind of instrument.
Thanks, glad you like it! I especially don´t like guitar demos with distortion sounds at all.
That playing! It was so enjoyable! You rock, man.
Nice sounding guitar, but somehow due to your amazing chops!
Thanks! The guitar is pretty good, for some styles. My giging guitar is usually a Tele or jazz archtop, depending on the gig.😊
Mighty fine playing!
Just fabulous picking, tone, and taste. You've convinced me to leave the stock pickups in my 5420! There's just now enough difference between the Blacktops and the high price spread.
no, I think they sound really good. Thanks!
Just when you think it can't get any better, it does, totally amazing guitar technique
Thank you 😊
I listened to the demos of the new center block models but the 5420G has the sound I prefer. This demo pretty much sold me.
Greetings ! What a nice guitar and this is more than a demo, a beautiful guitar concert. Thanks for posting !
Thanks, glad you like my stuff.
