  • Terrain Tamer, a household brand in Australia is now in South Africa. We have partnered up with them to do some "REAL" testing on their products in Africa, where the 4x4 driving traverses so many different types of terrain, which will be a true test of their durability and strength.
    In this episode we start the work on the front end of the vehicle, from caster correction to bearings, discs, seals and coils as well as the new shocks. Once again the meticulous nature of the Terrain Tamer team finds problems that we never realised were even there to begin with, lots of water ingestion and rusty parts. On a more serious note, we find that the knuckle arm bolts were not even tight which could have had devastating consequences if not picked up by the team.
    Terrain Tamer being the meticulous brand they are don't just stop there, they literally start going through the Donkey with a fine tooth comb, as we pull things apart we find more and more problems that need to be repaired and need to replace more than just the suspension for testing.
    From water ingestion in the bearings to worn out brakes we dig into it all, replacing what we need to get the Donkey turned into a stallion who is race ready.
    Terrain Tamer ship from the head office in Cape Town to anywhere in Africa...

    Really enjoyed watching the upgrades and also a lesson learnt on how important it is to keep an eye on the vehicles components. I look forward to visiting Terrain Tamer's warehouse soon, but will leave my credit cards behind. Looking forward to hearing how the upgrades did in the Tankwa. Enjoy!!

    Awesome series, Roland. Out of interest, what is the mileage on the Donkey? Or what’s the distance travelled since your last service on these areas? 👍

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Neal, Donkey is currently sitting on 209k, normal service intervals are at 5000km, the last check he had that was a go through was around 15000km before, just before the CKGR trip, and rackends were replaced about a year ago, with lockdown and not a lot of heavy offroad driving those parts were finished and should've also tied into the rest of the front being checked as wheel alignment had been done with that as well. Just shows you we assume and trust places to do this correctly and it's often not...

    • @gregwoodbridge9541

      Thanks Roland, I would have thought internals at that mileage would still be good, lucky you got to it in time. Had you. Been doing periodic inspections between trips, I am guessing more visual then anything else.
      Something I do after a long trip that had water crossings is upon my return I leave the car for a week to settle, then I open the fillers on Diffs, gearbox, transfer box an filler to rear diff. If they’ve taken on water the levels will the run over out the top. Then you know you need to drain an replenish fresh oil.
      Since then I’ve added extend breathers to all breathing areas saves lots time.
      Good luck with cruiser should be hood for 500k more KMs now.

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Greg, yeah it was lucky to be honest, I do all the usual checks but never as detailed as Nicky did at all. The oils were OK from the gearbox, transfer and front diff, it was just the rear that smelt a little burnt. I have breather extensions on everything already, so you can imagine what the condition would have been without them. I think the thing is, remember donkey is 208k km in, but of those km most of them have been hard driving, he's not my daily, he's my tour vehicle. That's a pretty good idea though with it over flowing if water got it...

    Very informative, and the outcome . . . "take my money!!!" Very very well received mate, and thank you for doing this one. Do Terrain Tamer have a solve for Ford rangers? Keep losing drive shafts and no one up here in Joburg has a solve for me with the 2inch lift and 32.6 inch diameter tyres. Awesome work by the team and great to see Donkey looking sorted 🤙

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ryan, the outcome is definitely amazing! The team are a bunch of great guys and the products are great as well. Sorry to hear about your driveshaft wars man, we need to get you a fix for that soon, it's just no way to carry on. Maybe give the guys a shout and see what they have to say about a possible fix for you...The Donkey although he will always be my donkey, is now but a stallion!
