This font is going to be in every other Star Wars fan film from here to eternity, or at least it should be. It appears to instantly imbue that feeling of 70s futurism to anything it’s pasted on, in a way that isn’t at all overused or cliche.

I hope not. If the Star Wars humanoids are anything like us, then they would change and evolve their fonts for the same reasons we do: Technology improvements, better readability (ergonomically), efficiency, boredom, desire to be unique and recognizable as a brand (Empire vs. Alliance), etc. So as the stories move forward in time, I would hope their surrounding aesthetic would do the same.

QATech sounds like a manufacturer's name, I'd guess the targeting module is the "Velos" type. Warning at the end is probably the computer noting an alert that the "QATech Velos" has detected, like maybe the sensor specifically reads the targets shields, and the warning was saying "the enemy ship has changed it's shield power" or something.

Velo for velocity. S for S foil, as in the "Strike Foils" that are the wings of an x-wing.
"QATech" meaning Quad Acceleration Technology (on the back of the targetted XWing).
What was the last part? EDIT: The last part was just "Warning" which could mean it's warning that you may lose targeting lock at any time due to the maneuverability of the x-wing, meaning you may be firing into allies if it moves away, or something.

One of the issues with Letraset is that after you have used the letters you need, you are left with sheets of random letters that are left over. So the designers may also just be using up spares. We used to label cassette tapes in the 80's and we had boxes of left over letters, numbers symbols and shapes. Some time a letter wouldn't transfer and you would look for a matching line of curve in a surplus unused letter to go over and fill in any partial transfers. Letraset was awesome

You’d think that critical information would be rendered on displays for maximum readability. Then again, you’d also think that at some point, someone would figure out that placing easily-rewired access panels at every secure entry point was a bad idea too 🤷🏻‍♂️

Luke’s shields were still strong at that point. With Biggs and Wedge having taking the hits, Luke’s fighter still had enough energy to protect its engines. Not a lot, seeing how R2 was heavily damaged, but it could still hold for a few more seconds. Without the last minute intervention of Han, Luke would’ve immediately get blown up

This video just popped up in my recommended, and I'm glad it did. It's pretty cool that you guys were able to figure this out and recreate the font for others to use. I could see using this font for something like magic runes (which isn't too far off from how it was used in Star Wars, honestly); it has a very distinctive style that would offer a lot of contrast with other fonts that could also be used in a similar way. That way, you could have multiple types of runes, each with their own distinctive style. It's stylized enough that at a glance it would appear as random symbols, but you could hide Easter eggs in the text for those who look closely and notice that they're actually just heavily stylized Latin letters.

TIE Fighters have been my favorite sci-fi starfighters ever since I've seen the original trilogy, and I've been trying to learn everything there is to know about them.
Including the text on the targeting computer. However, due to the reasons you've mentioned, I never could make out what the text was.
Thanks for looking into this incredibly hidden detail. Too bad it just says gibberish.
I've always assumed that it was written in aurabesh, as in Star Wars Rebels, when the TIE Defender is being flown in the nebula, and is about to burn up, the camera pans down on the targeting computer screen, and it says "danger" in aurabesh.
Hopefully, since now you guys discovered the font, they'll start using it again, however, this time the text will have meaning.

As a boy, I would obsess about intricate details like this in Star Wars lore. For example, what was the scanning range of an imperial probe droid, what sort of programming language did it run on. More that behind the scenes curiousity
My family would think I was absolute bonkers -even to the point of forcing me to go play outside and shouting "It's just a movie for Gods sake".
I would have no issues with deepdiving down to the subatomic level to understand the nuances and intricacies of a set piece etc.
While the proverbial handwave to people like us is "A wizard did it", whenever we have specific targeted questions about something, thanks to the www and YT, we can share our knowledge for the greater good.
Never stop being inquisitive. Great stuff and thank you so much
