This is more of a retroactive detail more than anything, but, Jyn Erso's theme shows up in A New Hope and it plays when Luke says he can't get involved, and then it shows up again at the end of Return of the Jedi right as the celebration song begins. I guess its possible Michael Giaccino took inspiration from these little bits from each soundtrack and retroactively made it into Jyn's theme. I like this detail as it feels like a reminder of what the Rogue One crew died for, after all, the official name for that leitmotif is: Jyn Erso & Hope Suite.
This is a classic melody called Dies Irae which has been use by composers (including John Williams quite often) since at least the thirteenth century. Giacchino purposely utilized it throughout Rogue One as a reference to it's frequent use in A New Hope, and to represent the inevitable sacrifice of the protagonists. It's commonly used in classical music and film scores, and throughout the entire Star Wars saga, to represent tragedy or death in general. I like to imagine that at least a few of these were the result of technical/budget limitations, and weren't intentional at all. "Yes George, we got the shuttle prop done but the lights act weird when you move the wings"
The human on the sandcrawler fits that category - he's not an actor, he's an f/x tech trying desparately to not be noticed as he scrambles to keep the droid props working - especially the radio controlled Artoo body that hadn't had enough development time to be fully reliable and then got damaged on the flight to Tunisia.

Episode 1 still has some things I didn't know. Take when the crew arrive on Tatooine as an example, in the background there's a Gozanti-Class cruiser flying behind the main cast as they walk into Mos Espa. The Gozanti's, plus others like the Tecora-Class freighter, would become more common place as a simple background ship during the Clone Wars. Hell, even the Separatists had a few dozen of them during the first episode of the D-Squad Arc of season 5.
In the first appearance of the Executor in TESB, the Tie Fighters appear to be doing all sorts of wild and dangerous maneuvers, flying way to close to each other in a random or chaotic manner. I always found that strange. In ROTJ during Darth Vader and then the Emperor's arrivals at the second Death Star, the Tie Fighters are staying in formation and following orderly flight paths.
Not related to the original trilogy, but while in line at the Rise of the Resistance ride at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, I noticed that on the white vests of the Resistance pilot uniforms, there was a bit of Aurebesh text that i had trouble reading until I realized it was upside down so the wearer could read it. It said “pull to inflate” like a real emergency life vest, which just adds another tiny but fantastic bit of detail to the costumes that grounds them in real life.
It wasn't mentioned in this video here (maybe it's been covered in an earlier video or so obvious it's not worth mentioning) but the full scale starfighters in the Yavin hanger look alot cleaner and with nicer paint than the miniatures used during the battle itself. One thing I wondered was whether younger viewers got the in-joke of the strange sound Chewy makes when he swings from the trees in Endor, which the Wookies in ROTS also make as they swing- It's the call Johnny Weissmuller's vine-swinging Tarzan always used to announce himself in the old 1940's movies!
I never noticed that when you see Luke's torpedoes go down the exhaust port you can see 1:34 where the previous missed shot impacted up and to the left of it.
The Ewok/Ben Hur horns play two separate tones that are a perfect fifth apart. The opening notes to the John Williams Star Wars theme are also a perfect fifth (after the perfect fourth). Listen to the Bill Murray version and you can hear the interval when he sings the words "Star Wars"
Thank you for doing this! Because I would never spend my time I actually going through a movie it’s tedious at you, I have certainly missed a whole lot! And when your duties it breaks it down for me, thank you! Good work
This videos was awesome! I’d love to see more videos covering the numerous small and seemingly unnoticeable details. I literally didn’t notice any of the details you discussed.
Freaking amazing video! I LOVE little details like this! Like when the Millennium Falcon flies into the Exogorth's mouth the headlights come on, it makes the whole universe feel so alive! I'll never watch the OT the same way again! :)
The starfighter sequence in the Battle of Yavin also has a lot of continuity errors, specifically with the X-Wing Luke is flying. The X-Wing he hops into in the Yavin hangar has a solid red stripe on the side, but in battle he is flying an X-Wing with a broken stripe as well as two wing stripes (Red 2) or five wing stripes (Red 5). The canopy color (your escape pod) also varies from light blue to gray. What makes the X-Wing inconsistency really interesting to me is that a lot of the scenes were added in the special edition, and someone I guess decided NOT to make the markings match the original versions. They also re-used the "fly-by" 2-second clip in the trench like 4 times in quick succession towards the end when it's Luke versus the TIE fighters.
*_The podrace in The Phantom Menace seems to be a copy of a car race in "Flåklypa Grand Prix"(1975), a Norwegian mixed-animation movie._* *_English name is "The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix"._*
Please breakdown and restore the Towani family cruiser that's crashed in the Ewok movie!! I believe they used some ESB models they had laying around to make it!! A back story and reconstruction would be awesome!!!
Have you ever noticed this? In A New Hope, during the computer generated presentation showing how to bomb the Deathstar in the simulation, the "glider" is dropping a bomb, NOT firing a torpedo like you see in the end of the film. Which makes the line, "Negative, it impacted on the surface" make much more sense.
6:40 Note that it seems the light sequences are automated, which isn't surprising but we do see them one other time. When Luke commandeers a lambda shuttle you can see them blink twice in their three blink pattern before the lights are off screen. Though, the perspective of that shot is a little warped. The shuttle seems way closer to the entrance when it's shown taking off and compared to the distance it travels when escaping the shuttle bay.
That was wonderful. Thanks for sharing these details! I'm so fascinated and mystified by star wars and the feeling it evoked especially in the Lucas films. These little details help in the constant unraveling of that magic.
Love it! Hope you make more on the OT and the PT. I knew maybe half of what’s here, and usually chalk it up to non-narrative reasons, but this video was well thought through and presented.
There's actually a link between Star Wars and Ben Hur. The original Storm Trooper boots were made by Anello & Davide, the same company that made the sandals in Ben Hur (also they were responsible for the icon "Beatles boots" as worn by The Beatles (obvs)).
When the pilots on Yavin are getting into their ships, they’re all wearing a helmet with 2 blue alliance starbirds, and almost no other detail (like Dak’s helmet in ESB), but during the battle, no pilot shown is wearing that helmet
Speaking of nebulon-b variants, there's one more in the same shot with the "CR-110" corvette. Clearly it's just supposed to be an another nebulon-b, but it IS a different miniature, with slightly different proportions, some additional fins and whatnot. I've been playing around with making a reconstruction of it for a few years but can't seem to make sense of it, so I guess not. No doubt you already knew about it but still.
EC Henry is a TH-cam force to be reckoned with, and I am so glad to see what he is doing as far as a short film. The rewards tiers are really unimaginative though.

2:00 there is a nice little touch in Adywan's *Empire: Revisited* where, when the Ion cannon fires, there is a little bit on the lower right where you can see 2 rebel figures who look at the cannon as it fires (2 guys volunteered to go to the mountains in California in Hoth uniforms and filmed their bit for Ady).
I just recently discovered that the Eta-2s in Revenge of the Sith have two different digital models. One with long barreled cannons, and one with short. Also on Hoth, the game Rogue Squadron III Rebel Strike has AT-STs landing behind the Rebel trenches. So in my head canon, the Rebels are not only fleeing the AT-ATs, but trying to engage the AT-STs.
I think there is a canon book, Star Wars story where R2 tampers discreetly with R5 to make him fail, screw up. The droid was fine but R2D2 had to make sure 💯 he'd be picked.
@@DavidLLambertmobile now THAT I knew about. There was also a "mini comic" that depicted R5D4 as being force sensitive, and had a force vision of luke being one to help take down the empire with R2D2 and C3PO's help, so he blew his motivator himself.

I think it's criminal that you have less than a million subs. Great video as always.
PLEASE... I BEG YOU, MORE OF THESE
i simply love your videos
I’m convinced I have dementia and your me. This is how I watch Star Wars. Love this
This was an awesome watch, thanks for really diving deep into the lore of this beloved franchise I would love to see more!
Good work
ECHenry deserves so many more followers
0:45 the human that appeared with the Jawas was none other than Peli Motto from the Mandalorian 😅👍 #Confirmed
Can’t tell you how much I love these breakdowns with real-world and in-universe explanations.
So fun.
Ice Cream makers are held in the highest of value in Cloud City 4:56
I would love a 8 movie (6+Rogue+Solo) non-directors Commentary from you on Star Wars
This videos was awesome! I’d love to see more videos covering the numerous small and seemingly unnoticeable details. I literally didn’t notice any of the details you discussed.
This was awesome, I love these little details. I'd enjoy another couple of videos like this!
Wow, amazing stuff! Glad I came across your channel! 👍
Wow. Great video. Never noticed the most of this. My favorite detail are the IG "heads" in the cantina.
Which are, apparently, parts from the internal workings of jet fighter engines!!.
He really said no droids
Freaking amazing video! I LOVE little details like this! Like when the Millennium Falcon flies into the Exogorth's mouth the headlights come on, it makes the whole universe feel so alive! I'll never watch the OT the same way again! :)
I love that when you study the old films you just find more and more details that enhance the experience.
YES! More videos like this would be amazing!!
I'm so beyond supportive and excited about that 😆
We are giving ILM and the incredible SW production crew the flowers they deserve
Everything in all of your videos is new to me. Never noticed any of these details and that's why I love these videos.
*_The podrace in The Phantom Menace seems to be a copy of a car race in "Flåklypa Grand Prix"(1975), a Norwegian mixed-animation movie._*
*_English name is "The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix"._*
Please breakdown and restore the Towani family cruiser that's crashed in the Ewok movie!! I believe they used some ESB models they had laying around to make it!! A back story and reconstruction would be awesome!!!
Wait, that Battle of Hoth bit...that explains so much about little details that confused me.
Great point! Maybe Y-Wings were going to drop bombs?
Henry, your vids are always awesome. Well done!
awesome stuff! i could watch these for hours!
I could watch hours of this. Please keep it up.
More of these, yes!!!! This was fascinating! Props man!
I'd like to think I've been a fairly big Star Wars fan my whole life (30+ years) And I did not notice any of these prior to this video. You rock!
EC Henry is a TH-cam force to be reckoned with, and I am so glad to see what he is doing as far as a short film. The rewards tiers are really unimaginative though.
Another fun fact about Jedi: the animal Chewie goes after on Endor is literally just the rear end of a white tailed deer with eyes glued on the hide.
Never will I stop loving your videos!!
Excellent details - many of them I never knew before. I hope you can do more like this and cover the prequels and sequels as well.
More, more, MORE details and trivia!!!! THANK YOU EC!!!
4:46 HELL YES! Some star tours love! god its a god damn tradgedy that they runed the original ride, it felt like Real star wars, lived in and genuine. unlike the "brand experiance" adventures continues is.
This video really put a smile on my face. You're incredible!
Han proving that he is the best pilot in the galaxy by being one of the few that does use the turn signals xd
When i came across your video i thought "Here goes another video with the same old shit!" But i was pleasantly surprised at the minute details you noticed! Great job!
Man this stuff is so interesting! Thank you for pointing out all these details! I should definitely rewatch these movies to see if I can find any of my own.
Judah Ben-Hur, "I'll Try Spinning, That's A Good Trick!"
just pledged for your kickstarter. I hope you can make this. This film looks like it'd be really cool, and I love art for the sake of art. I just discovered your channel today, and I look forward to watching more of your videos
Absolutely, i would *love* to see more of these videos, i’m crazy about small details like these!
This was fantastic! I'd love to see more
6:47 It’s still my favourite Star Wars ship
Wow finally a star wars video that isn’t just clickbait bs! Actually learned something new.
Some obscure Star Wars trivia is that r2-d2 was put into multiple ILM projects in 2009 being Star Trek (2009) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Always enjoy the details you bring to light from Star Wars! God Bless!
I've seen Star Wars more times than I can count and have NEVER noticed the human hunched over with the Jawas... that's a WOW moment right there!
Okay this guy is awesome! Been watching some of your ship videos. Keep it up! This was great!!!
