I think goats are my very favorite animals. I like them even better than dogs and cats. Lovely, lovely animals. I was a farmer's wife, way out in the country. On the nice afternoons I would take a break from the work, go out and the goats would come lay in the grass by me. I would feed the bummer lambs and calves goat milk, and when the little ewes grew up, they would let me milk them, too, for orphan lambs.. You get very, very thick, yellow, and sticky milk from sheep.
@krakaprepper Sadly the half acre does not provide enough for the chickens and goats..BUT..we save so much money on the other things we do ( our own canning, milking, yogurt, cheese, eggs, meat) that feeding them is well worth it. Also.. out goats have a paddock that they wander around in stripping it of vegetation..The hay we buy locally and costs under $100 a year...and grain is more expensive..but they don't eat a lot of grain..as it is not healthy for them.
I have made butter and cheese..Just look up Butter on my channel..I no longer pasteurize my goats milk..but right now I have no goats milking until spring...And I will be doing a whole new series on goats milk, cheese and butter!

Strangely enough, Craigslist is a great source for finding goats milk in your area. My advice would be to find a couple sources and then go check out their operation, if they'll allow it. Have them walk you through their milking process and then decide if they meet your standards. If the milk is handled directly and the goats are healthy, there's almost no risk. Just be sure that everything their milk touches is clean and you're good.
I’m lucky cuz one of my girls (who has never had a kid) or been anywhere near a billy has been having a false pregnancy every year for the past 3 years and she gives a little over a half gallon a day. We’re just going into winter now in New Zealand so we will see if it happens again this spring. I strain mine with a coffee filter but don’t pasteurise. Have had some wonderful cheeses, milk to drink & soap
@teenprepper96 I will do my best..I am only milking one right now..the rest are not old enough from breeding..I am new at this and just getting the hang of it..but tomorrow night when my husband gets home I will ask him to try and film me..ok?

Very cool video. I'm slowly converting my half acre and home over to being (partially) self-sufficient. Thanks for the video!

My kitty's would love that milk
Where do you get the yogurt strainer?
could you make a video on how you milk them
why did you pasteurize your milk? im just learning
susan till I was thinking the same thing, especially if it’s for your families consumption, raw is the best, it has all the probiotics and vitamins!
My opinion to many fillter overdue
Look for a goat farmer... Otherwise..try a health food store?
