      Ya... as an engineer I can't see any advantage to putting an oxygen absorber in something you are vacuum sealing. It won't hurt anything but if you suck all the air out you are also suck out all the oxygen so there is nothing for them to absorb. Eh... each to their own, keep what works in your area and we will all be better off, remember charity begins at home... aka make sure you don't need help before spending resource on others, you are not helping if you spend $20 helping other but need $30 yourself.

    @billygarner7362 3 ปีที่แล้ว +53

    For those who are getting a Foodsaver for the first time, you will find it indispensable for prepping. I did rice in smaller quantities, beans and almost anything dry and they still hold theirseal after many years. The beans give off a gas over time (and after consumption), but that doesn’t mean you lost the seal. There is still no oxygen in there. Sharp objects like egg noodles will puncture the bag so they should be double bagged and handled carefully. Be sure to get an extra box or two so you have some after shtf. Lastly, meat sealed in foodsaver bags will not get freezer burn and keep in the freezer for at least a year.
    Thanks AP for the demonstration.

    This is great information! Typically I purchase nuts whenever there's a good sale and throw them in the freezer to have for holiday baking. I've notice that sometimes they still tend to get a little rancid. This will not only keep them fresher but save me a good amount of much needed freezer space too!

    Why do you put an oxygen absorber in there if you use the food saver? You shouldn't have to do both(one or the other I think).

    Great step by step on vacuum sealer. I've been procrastinating. Can you demonstrate a Berkey water filter? Does size matter? Is it about storing more prior to filtering?

    I also vacuum seal in glass mason jars. I own the Gamesaver silver Foodsaver vacuum sealer. I also use mason jars to vacuum seal dry goods. I usually stuff a clean dry coffee filter on the top then out the canning lid and adapter and vacuum seal. Mine is 10 years old and still fresh.

    @Alaska Prepper, Never use an oxygen absorber and moisture absorber together. The oxygen absorber needs that moisture to work properly. By using BOTH you render the oxygen absorber inoperable, hence the reason it was still pliable as if it were brand new in this video. Peace

    Nuts are one of my main foods, and I’ve been worried about this because I’ve heard that since they’re fats they go rancid. I just opened one of those plastic jars of planters I bought when the pandemic started, and yes, they were rancid. I’ve got a vacuum sealer and I hope vacuum sealing them in plastic bags works.

    Hi Alaska prepper I just went to Costco yesterday in Tampa Bay Florida. I just soaked my 2 pound bag of pecans and had them in the oven and they’re all nice and stored and sealed tight containers. We need them as snacks. They turn out really good it’s too bad I can’t post pictures on here. Anyway thanks for doing these videos on how to store various nuts. And by the way my Costco cashier was from Alaska and he worked at the Fairbanks Costco where you shop. He’s here in Clearwater Florida now.

    Fast Forward Oct '22- I have been watching you daily for about 6mths. I had been slow prepping for about a year at that time, then bamm. I upped my game. This is great info on the nuts. I haven't purchased many because of the risk of them going bad. I am storing them right now in mason jars and I'll grab more next time I am out. SHTF is just around the corner. Stay safe.

    Good morning Mister Alaska Prepper, liked the video very much. I really like and appreciate you taking the time to show us newbies the proper way of storing different types of foods. You didn't mention it but Georgia is generally the number one producer of Peanuts and Pecans in the U.S. Our weather this year has been pretty decent, but we did have a terrible storms come through South Georgia from hurricane Michael and a virus to last years crop that really has affected prices. Pecan trees were terribly affected by Michael and are still struggling to return. Prices just continue to rise.
