Thanks Nigel. I never really aimed for a set number of subs per se, but I've enjoyed building this channel up over the past 2 years and met some good people through it. I'll certainly keep an eye out for the book that you mention as I am a regular visitor to the website of the same name where I have seen some fascinating stuff on there that's locally to me and fairly easy to get to. 👍
I took photos of it and put them on Wiganworld a few years ago, but I cant find them now, I might have done a video not sure now. but when I was up there last there was sign showing the history of the mould.the sign was put up when the fence and path was redone. I can also remember going to a couple of barn dances at Boars den farm in the early 70 when the farm was just a ramshackle farm, and even getting my leg over on top of the burial mound with a woman full of cider.
You rascal Mick, I'll give you the +1 purely for the anecdote! 👍 Seriously though there was no information sign that I could see and I walked the path from High Moor Lane near the restaurant round past Boars Den Farm and out onto Robin Lane and then back again. Anyway good to hear that the video brought back some memories for you of your wild and reckless youth, I'm glad that I made it now! Lol. 😉
The sign was a new one made of metal and with a diagram showing the layout and the history of the mound, Roy theres plenty of Appley Bringers who dont know its there Thinking back the sign could even have been made from bronze, so it could have been melted down Have you discovered Skull house yet ? I used to go out with one of the twins who lived next door.
I've heard of the legend, well two really one story goes that the skull will scream if someone tries to remove it from the house and the other story goes that it will mysteriously reappear again if it is removed from the house. Dunno which one if either is supposed to be the real legend?
Very interesting Mr H cheers. Didn't even know that was there. I spoke to a Farmer a while back near Lathom who discovered Saxon Graves on one of his Fields. I seem to remember that he had a Saxon Round House re created on his land and that local Schools would use it for History Lessons.
I must admit Northern Monkey, that I have walked past this burial mound in Wrightington on previous bimbles and never even noticed it partly because after four thousand years it now blends in with the surrounding landscape and has become almost invisible. It must be a real pain for farmers who either have or find these ancient graves on their land such as the farmer you spoke to in Lathom as it effectively puts their land out of use and I wonder how many of them just quietly cover them back up rather than report their discovery?
Very True Mr H. Thankfully He seemed like a decent Chap and took an interest, calling in the Archeologists etc. Remember encountering dozens of these Tumuli whilst on exercise on Salisbury Plain as a young Soldier. Thanks again for Vid.
Correction @4:09. The actual road that runs past this field in Wrightington and over Parbold Hill is the 'A5209' and not the 'A5902'.
Many congratulations on 1,000 subs. Fascinating video. Can I recommend 'The Modern Antiquarian' Julian Cope, try and get it for £20 from Amazon.

Enjoyed your look back in history; thanks!
