It wasn't just 1 show, they were 2. First one night, and then the other one. And in all the videos of the concert I have seen, they plug the two performances into one. Because of that, sometimes Jason magically appears with a brown bass instead of his black one. (And I know he could have it behind as a backup, but fuck it)
I have heard both bootlegs , I could not tell you the difference , energy was there for both and I can't tell which days which songs were used for the official release either
I mean to be honest you probably aren't wrong xD They ruled the fucking world, and 89-92 I felt was their TIGHTEST fucking era as a band. I would not doubt though that there were even crazier shows than this though. Metallica concerts just seemed to be un fucking matched.
Check out their "Live from Edmonton, Canada (August 16th 2017)" if you haven't seen it yet. It's not Seattle 1989, it's a whole different Metallica, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Kinda. But imo Jason's departure was a symptom - not the cause. I suspect the bell first rang when Cliff died and they realized that it was ringing for them. So they decided to stay together and keep playing, but at the same time they had to overcome the loss and kept going with understanding that it could end for them just as quickly. I think Kirk mentioned that he was gonna sleep at the bunk Cliff fell out of the bus from. So I guess they just decided to cash out in a way. Use their reputation to play whatever they want and make money from it to enjoy the time they got left. I think it made them wake up from the rock star dream and reconsider their priorities. But Jason didn't go through all of that and became an emotional punching bag for others to let anger out on. And James always looked like the most honest and emotional guy of them all to me. So yeah, now the band is a way for them to make money and have fun, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it in any way undermines them being the biggest metal band in history.
I said the exact same thing when I listened to the Black album a few times back in the day. I knew then that Justice was their pennacle and they reached it. It sucks it took them so long to make Hardwired...to self destruct. That is the album that should have followed Justice. Hardwired is very good.
Nightmare Zero, you're a typical dumbass... They had much more shows like Seattle on Justice tour, not to mention years to come when they had huge amount of energy left. They started dying out somewhere around 1994.
I mean I love Pantera, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden. But to me no band will ever come close to what Metallica has done with their first 5 albums. The last 2 albums are great too. @@TheTrooperMB right, but today's Lars plays at about 10% of the level he was playing at this show. In this show he's got mostly solid tempo, hangs back in the fills so he doesn't end up rushing. Even plays most of the double bass parts.
I love that you can hear the natural fluctuations in tempo throughout this performance. The band pushes and pulls where it feels natural. No in-ear monitors, just a bunch of loud-ass monitors on the ground to hear each other. Perfect.
That’s what I’ve always enjoyed about this band. They don’t have cookie cutter performances that all sound the same from one show to the next. They always had the human sounding element to them. It disappoints me when I listen to a band live and it just sounds like a machine performing the songs!
Jeff Porcaro once said "a good musician knows how to dance around the beat and make it intesresting and less tight for the others to be able to play around too". in short it gives room to improvise knew/original things to make the performance unique. playing always the same at the very note and be tight like a virgin pussy... well just play with robots or along a beat machine LOL. one of Steve Wonders' best songs has been recorded without clic and the song is all over the place. still one of the best songs in music history. go figure... if it feels good, it's right. simple as that.
That part when Newsted makes love to his bass, and then Hetfield and Hammet gradually enter the scene with their guitars...always causes me skin-flaying goosebumps, no matter how much time passes. This concert is ETERNAL.
@@nickwilliams6621 No, I'm sure he means that Cliff wouldn't approve Jason being screwed over, because he was a nice person and very respectable before his death.

James was only 26 at this concert and despite that so self confident in front of such a huge crowd - very nice!!! Best live video ever in history of mankind 🤘🏻
No disrespect to Cliff(dude was 1 in a billion), but Jason pulled them thru a really tough time in their career, I think they should make a song ode to him at some point. The guy deserved better, he was loyal, and full of life, energy, and metal baddassery they needed at the time to keep doing what they loved. Epic band forever, and this is how I remember them.
This "live album" is one of the most meaningful things I have ever come across, more than a decade ago. In my mind it has its own deeply complex, mysterious mythos. I've been to KeyArena where it went down. Clear day, late summer, late afternoon. Put in my earbuds and let my mind run with it. I credit this music with saving my life.
This why Metallica has been held in such high esteem in the Music world. They played every note with conviction, and gave everything in their concerts. Although I know that Lars is a bit of a shadow of what he was, he was on fire here and he inspired many drummers, myself included with his approach to his drum parts. Lars definitely was a great drummer. Great to see so many people highlighting Jason's contribution to Metallica's success. To quote James in a recent interview, "he was a force on stage" You can really see that here.
the impression is that each of them took a combination of trenbolone + Viagra + cocaine and went on stage. The brutality of the instruments and rage of Jason's backing vocals make this the biggest performance of any live band, not just metal, but any genre. Master of Puppets is the show's biggest moment and it's mesmerizing. Every day I see at least one song from this show, and that's been years.
Did you knew that Metallica's 1986 album Master Of Puppets has been selected for induction into the US Library Of Congress National Recording Registry - making it the first metal title to be given the honor!!
Sometimes I feel deeply sad thinking about death and the eternal void of nothing, but because of things like this I feel proud to be alive, in this era, too see this piece of history even in a TH-cam video. You can feel bad about an endless list of cruelness of human being towards every f*kn thing, but you can also feel proud, and joy.
This track is one of my Metallica's all time favorites even after all the years (of which there are not that many - the song is exactly as old as I am after all).
I've always wondered what this concert would look like in 1080p, the live shit videos always had some kind of fuzzy filter over them which is because they are old concerts but this concert would be 1000000x better in complete hd
pause at 7:497:50, look at that still image for a while. You can see how ''small'' the stage actually is and how genius the filming and editing have to be in order to make this live footage feel so epic.

When we attend to METALLICA Concert. it's the best time of our life
This is the peak of Metallica. Their best performance. It is all downhill from here. Nothing will ever be better than this.

This might be the BEST heavy metal show recording of all time. These guys were in their prime in every way imaginable. I love them today, but there is a magic from this era of metallica that has never been re-captured so far in my opinion.
Definitely not the best live drumming performance.
No, it hasn't, but I feel like All Nightmare Long and Hardwired are sequels to that era. Can't recreate it, so they just stuck back to their roots. Hardwired sounded like it came from 80s Metallica
Tom: Fuckin well said !
Battery never had such energy like in 1989 Seattle
CDoodgeE: 1986 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.
