AAAAHHHH THANK YYOU SO MUCH FOR BREAKING THINGS DOWN FOR ME AND MAKING MY DECISION SO EASY! i've been racking my brain all day on what to do. YOU are the best.
We’ve used FSTs from the beginning, and my kid is now three and FSTs still work great at absorbency ❤️ I’ve always used just one FST or 2 microfiber inserts. But now that I’ve gotten hold of some pre-loved inserts, I can probably double inserts if needed!
I will be expecting my 4th baby in about 2 months and finally decided to go the cloth diaper route!! Im new to this and have really been racking my brain on what to use lol. I think this is amazing advice and so affordable. I think I will just go this route from beginning through potty training to reduce the hassle of if my baby is a heavy wetter or not I will be prepared for it lol. Thank you so much!!
Just getting started in cloth diapering my 3rd baby, bought 5sets of bamboo charcoal cd's and watched tons of videos but yours is the best so far😁 My mom used fst only for us when we are babies (Philippines based momma) and they kept them so well that i am using it now with my baby... now i just have to buy hemps and additional covers😅
Yes, I wish I could go back and do just flats or fst and hemp. I would also add some thin 3 or 4 layer bamboo but totally wouldn't be necessary I just like bamboo. 😁
"that thing, can absorb the world"...oh my gosh, hahaha I love you, thankyou for this video, super! informative. I'm new to the cloth diapering world, so you have been so extremely helpful!
Just stumbled upon your video's when doing research about switching to cloth diapers. Wanted to say that you are amazing at explaining and breaking things down. It must be the provider side of you! I was wondering if you could do a video regarding how you was your cloth diapers and inserts; like pre-washing, washing, drying, and detergents. This is the confusing part for me, there are so many types a detergents. Everyone recommends tide but we can't use that in our household.
You are incredible!!! I came here after watching your video on inserts (LIFE SAVER THANK YOU!!) I am about to have baby number two this coming July and I really am excited to do cloth diapering! I was trying to figure out who you looked like and reminded me of, it’s Anne Hathaway!!!!! ❤️❤️ Thank you so so much for your videos
This has been so helpful! Thank you. I tried looking for the target ones, but cannot find the room essentials brand. If you had to choose between the Walmart and Amazon ones, which do you think is best?
Thank you for your tutorials! Oh, and the nearest Target to us is 3 hours away, and the nearest Wal-Mart is 45 minutes. We survive by making lists and taking trips to Wal-Mart or we buy from the Dollar General. ;)
@@NurseLiz one thing you missed in the video that I would like to know. The time required for these inserts to dry.. microfiber, charcoal, bamboo, cb, hemp and fst..apart from that, microfiber is the fastest absorber and hemp is with the largest capacity. Right?
Hello! Been watching some of your videos and love them! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Question for ya. Was looking to get some FST from target and I don't see the room essentials brand. They have a brand called "made by design". Sound familiar?
Hi been binging your diaper videos hahaha! I have a question. Since you used the pocket diapers as pockets and not covers (I recently got some Alva and plan to use them as pockets, not as covers, and no liners). How many pocket diapers do you suggest having in your stash for having a wash day every other day?
I’m looking forward to adding these to my stash now that I’ve watched your video! Question. hopefully I don’t sound dumb.. What’s the difference between FST and flats?
Raven De'aira doesn’t sound dumb at all! Especially since I’m not sure I know the answer haha. A flat is used with a cover over top. I think they are like large versions of those Flat white Gerber diapers? And you fold them around baby then put a diaper cover on. I think if you doubled these they could be used as a flat. But. I’ve never used flats or covers so I’m definitely not the expert there! Sorry!
I'm cloth diapering for 150$ with flower sack towels and covers 😄💛 I love the Wal-Mart ones haven't tried the target ones didn't know about them I'm going to try them out on payday. 😄💜. Thank you for this!
Nick Thomm that’s awesome!! I love how affordable it is! Now that I’ve been using them for months, the target ones are definitely WAY softer than the Walmart ones. So if you can, I’d splurge on those! Babies butt will love you!
Do you prep these by washing multiple times to increase absorbency like you do with bamboo and hemp? Or just once? Thank so much- all your videos are super helpful for this hopeful first time CD mommy!!
I'm new to cloth diapering and came across your video. The information you provide on this and the 5 types of inserts are wonderful! I'm wondering if I use hemp on the bottom, FST on top and a piece of fleece fabric on top of the FST if that will be helpful. I found out that fleece is great to hold solids as well as help baby feel dry and is soft for their skin.
I have been thinking about doing cloth diapers and was wondering if a flower sack towel would be good if I layered it with a charcoal insert? I already have a lot of the charcoal inserts from a friend. Thanks!
I already purchased Alva baby bamboo charcoal inserts to go with my one size pocket Alva baby cloth diapers. & they haven’t arrived yet but I realized after the inserts are just microfiber on the inside with fleece on the outside layer & not natural…how can I use the flour sack towels in combination with my microfiber inserts ? Expecting my 1st so all new to me.
Hi Thank you for making this video. Very informative and very useful. I just started using cloth diapers for 3 days and I'm washing them today. I have 2 questions, for the FST that are wet with urine, do you unfold them before putting them into the wash or you just let them be? And do you use hot water to wash them? or maybe hot water in pre-wash? or both pre-wash and main wash?
Hi! I do unfold them because I’ve found if I don’t they can stay stuck in the folded position. I use hot to wash them, but you can play around with it and see what works for yours!
Hi!! I am going to begin cloth diapering! My baby is two months old and is on the heavy wetter side. Would you suggest one fst during the day and one paired with a hemp insert at night? I’m a little stumped on what to start with during the day. I currently have the mr inserts the diapers came with, 10 3 layer bamboo from Alva and 4 newborn size Thirsties hemp inserts. I going to stock up on fsts!!
hi! So during the day I usually use an FST plus a microfiber or a bamboo. My daughter needed both by the time she was 2 months because that girl peed like crazy haha. At night I eventually started using an FST plus a bamboo plus a thisrties hemp. but that was probably when she was a bit older since its a bit more bulky.
Thank you for all the information. You speak very highly of Flour sack and hemp. Do you recommend one over the other? I know you broke down the advantages of each but still torn if I should buy the hemp or try the flour sack. Thank you!
I use them both, just differently. Hemp alone isn't great because it is a slow absorber, so if it isn't paired with a fast absorber, you'll have leaks. I like to combine the two to get a super absorbent diaper!
Thank you very much. I may end up getting some hemp eventually. But for now I have the flour sack. I was planning to use them alone or with the microfiber inserts the diapers came with. Thanks for all your info and videos.
What diaper covers do you recommend for extra small babies? I got the one size Alva baby one size pocket diapers from Amazon but they will be FAR too big for her when she is a newborn
Can you use an FST as an overlay over top of a pocket diaper? I am researching cloth diapers and want to find an option where I don't ALWAYS have to change the whole diaper but could just change the liner next to baby unless it is a super heavy diaper or a blow out. Hoping I can do this to save on how many actual diaper shells we have to buy. Any recommendations? Or should I be looking at a different diaper other than a pocket diaper?
What am I doing wrong?? I tried FST’s when we first started cloth diapering, and she completely soaked through them in less than an hour! They were useless for us! We’ve had to use prefold to have enough absorbency, and she’s only 4 months
Hey Liz, we're 100% looking into hemp and the flour sack but in Australia I can't find them anywhere other than Amazon which the delivery takes forever because of COVID19. I'm just wondering have you used Himmelsk Burp Cloth instead because they're both cotton or is it different?
Hi! I havent, but you could always give it a go! I've avoided burp cloths because they seemed stiffer and bulkier than FST's. But I'm sure they would work!
Just want to say that there closest target/Walmart to me is 3 hours. It is the worst, but I don't go shopping when Im bored anymore. Probably why my husband moved us here 😂😂
Such a great video! I am starting cloth diapers for the first time in May. We are doing covers & prefolds for the newborn stage since I was gifted those. After we are planning on doing Alvababy pockets and inserts. Would you say that hemp & FST are great for a nighttime combo, daytime, or both?
I have read in multiple places how you can't let polyester touch your baby's skin. But all cloth diapers are made from it. Thristies for example. While the insert can easily be of hemp, cotton, or bamboo. The diaper Band (for example) is still made of polyester. So polyester is still touching the baby's skin. (Basically around the whole perimeter of the diaper it would be. That's why prevents leakage)... Is there something I'm missing about these cloth diapers?
So the insert or pocket cover is the part that shouldnt be polyester. Polyester is very absorptive, so it pulls water away a lot. This is not what you want when its right against the skin, because it will dry the skin out. The elastics and outside shell of the diaper may have some in it, but that shouldnt be whats touching baby!
@@NurseLiz I'm looking to buy thristies brand diapers. I like the dua wrap/ cover diaper but its made out of 100% polyester. Therefore those can't be used as a diaper? The directions say you can remove and replace with a new inserts between uses. But like I said the band and other parts are still made of polyester even if the insert isn't. So some of the polyester is touching the babys skin. Thristies has pocket diapers and those have the cotton lining. It's surprising tho how many cloth pocket diapers have a polyester lining. I got three pocket diapers from a Thrift store and they all have a polyester lining.

The problem I always have with my daughter the last 2 yrs is we have constant rashes and think this is why. Any advice?! Love this video!!
Hey! I definitely wouldn’t bleach them! They likely do to kill any potential bacteria in between babes. But with your own stash you shouldn’t need to bleach unless they get a fungal rash or something.
They’ll be fine!! If there’s one thing I’ve learned with cloth diapers, it’s you can tweak and play around with whatever you have to make it work for your little!

Hey! I definitely wouldn’t bleach them! They likely do to kill any potential bacteria in between babes. But with your own stash you shouldn’t need to bleach unless they get a fungal rash or something.
Man! I just bought inserts from Amazon 😭!
They’ll be fine!! If there’s one thing I’ve learned with cloth diapers, it’s you can tweak and play around with whatever you have to make it work for your little!
Hat down
Tye dye them lol
how about compression leaks for these inserts?
I haven't had those issues with these :)
THaTS what FST means 🎉😅
