to me it just shows he doesn't want to be like other ppl witch is great and unique so u could imagine is is prob like that on a project that makes what he does unique
Companies and products like this need to exist in order to push the (what I think is brilliant) modular design trend. My only prayer is that they will gain enough traction to support themselves and stick around long enough to make modular, hassle-free design a standard.
looks like it got some inspiration from a thermaltake level 10, this is smart, probably expensive as fuck though. i would like a look inside of these modules, and that whole subscription thing is actually kinda cool. personally i would prefer premade modules over building a pc (after building a few myself) sometimes its just annoying to build a pc imo. some of you may think differently but for the lazy people like me and the lazy people who refuse to learn how to build a computer, this is perferct
Brilliant concept, I like the subscriber option/idea as well. Basically this format would make a PC just as user friendly as any Console out there right now. Full PC power made user friendly, excellent. Good luck with it.
I think this looks fantastic. I am tech savvy but would rather focus on playing rather than on keeping up on the next great hardware. The price will ultimately determine its success and if you caught it, he did mention the idea or tier's of systems so yes, if you'd like your rig to be the best of the best, you can pay a higher subscription or less for tier 6(?). I would say giving the consumer plenty of options would go a long way for them. Non-subscription users can call for an upgrade when they wish but maybe a bit higher initial investment.
Subscription idea has me more worried that the actual full retail price of one of these puppies if it was specced out to be a top tier PC would be much higher than anyone is willing to pay
this is awesome. the price is going to be pretty crazy, but the pay as you go idea is probably the best marketing they could have for this type of innovation
I know a lot of people shit on Razer(including me at times) but this is a fantastic idea. less than 20 years ago, you had to know how to solder to build a pc. Now you have to make sure everything is compatible and done correctly before plugging in parts. I see this as the stepping stone of the future of pc building.
the only thing that i can see wrong is the cpu is interchangeable that in some circumstances means the socket will be the same from board to board and stay as one socket type unless they have been smart and redesigned the socket architecture to use a proprietary connector inside one of the modules. If that is the case be prepared to see thousands of drivers on the website to fin you customization options.
Holy fucking shit. All of this is all pure genius. This looks way more appealing than the steam box. Granted, theyre not really going after the same market but I definitely want this.
the Steam machines are "Now components" in smaller but still powerful/heat-efficient form factors, this is still a concept, anyway am sure Gabe was also surprised by this too and is something they could look in the future along with their partners. Of course Nvidia / Amd, and many other component manufacturers , etc would need to make their cards inside these modular components. Is not something that can happen from one day to another. Takes time and needs to become an "open standard" for everyone to agree on.
If every brand apply this concept by creating their product modularly , then the PC will be all hell easier to replace and even user-friendly for non-techy people to upgrade their PC. I like the concept.
hackintosh has limited amount of drivers and little to no official support. I assume any OS means most windows and open source OSs like Linux (steamOS, ubuntu, android, etc.), BSDs, Solaris, etc.
I love this concept. If they had a mid range model available for reasonable cost I would certainly consider it. The subscription option also sounds like a good idea.
that looks and sounds amazing. From someone that has built hundreds of computers i would rather have that if it promises on the usability and compatibility of the os and components
that looks amazing and beautiful but... honestly? I love so much the way pc is now in terms of building it, simply because it is so much fun to make researches and build your pc with your hands then customize it with led coolers and water cooling and window cases and etc etc... I mean, it is just too fun to do it, cant believe the next generation is aiming to a black magic box that all look the same :(
In today's environment if you're going to pre-announce a product it should be at most 12 months out. People's attention spans are hard to hold when were being constantly flood with tech that IS available.
hold up, so if i choose to stop paying the sub fee on this thing, do i have to send the WHOLE thing back to razar?????? i am intrigued by the concept though.
yeah but you cant use ANY graphic card because you would have to buy special graphic cards from razer. but please tell me if i am wrong like maybe you can buy any graphic card then open up the gpu case from razers modular system and just place it in there and plug it in but thats very unlikely
they really don't need a steambox this is perfect and i don't know the inerworkings of a steambox but id imagine much easyier 2 replace everything specialy graphix cards
I love the idea of this. Been putting off getting a PC for years but this could change my mind. Problem is going to be getting PC manufacturers on board though. Razer does most it's stuff in house. However this is one project which is a bit to ambitious to go alone. I wish more companies would have this forward thinking approach though. Something Gateway, Dell, HP among others have lost I think. Always liked Razer even if not all their ideas have worked. The PC industry better get it act together at some point before their isn't an industry left. Razer I have to give props for making the effort at least.
Not available in my country... Well then I seem to be at a disagreement and a bit upset I can not see the video first hand and have to rely on comments
It's Razer's CEO with a great haircut talking about project Christine. Project Christine is a modular computer that is cooled by mineral oils and you can customize it however you wish. You could have a traditional power button or what they call the "fancy display" telling you the status of your computer and you can have.. lets say.. Windows 8 if you want to use that, then the next day use Linux or Windows 7. Instead of paying like $XXXX instantly, you'd pay like $XX per month as a monthly fee. Maybe a new graphics card comes out, Razer instantly ships it to you and you send back your own one. Hope I helped a bit.
I like the idea, a simply plug out and plug in with different parts having the same ports... but this being this and razer being razer... it would be steep to buy these stuff, comapred to the normal way to building and upgrading. But, this i say is a step forward
It looks very cool and intriguing. The thing for me though is that I like to know what is in my system and I am willing to put hours of research in. I like the simplicity but If I was to get a PC I'd want a one time payment and upgrade when I feel like it.
The core of the PC is indeed to do anything you want to, so I better damn hope you've got a really smart way of making sure this is upgradeable and that these modules are easy to make and/or open enough that you don't strangehold it with your ridiculous pricing, Razer. This obviously has potential, but in your hands I'm pretty sure it can go downhill real fast.
If they do the subscription model and the price is ofcourse reasonable I would strongly consider buying it since its not a stupid idea, though it is Razer so I guess it will cost a shitton of money, but you never know :)
I'm not sure about this product, I don't know if I like it or not, but one thing is for sure` the enthusiasts who just build PCs sake of building them most probably they won't like this much, because the philosophy of building a PC is the freedom of possibilities and this thing limits that aspect, if this happen to release I think the buyers would be casual gamers and and people who like fency/extra-ordinary looking cases. Not yet mentioning eyes-watering price tag and subscription?
couple of years awey... why are we being told about this shit now then lol tell me in a few years when its uncertain there will be something that can rival it
so they'll get feedback and opinions from customers and professional which would be a deciding factor for the company weathr to release it or get over it. If they get a certain amount of positive feedback they'd like to` I bet they'll release it next day lol.
Kind of remind me of thermaltake level 10. But where is the fun in this ? You can't even see your own components, you won't be able to choose exactly what you want. And what happens when new standards comes out ? Like DDR4, new sata, pciex,...
since a TOP OF THE LINE AKA BEST PC OF ALL TIME that u can buy off of stores goes around 15k its a lot of money but when i buy one project christine i can have the best pc of all time all the time from the shipments of the new and best gear every month and wont have to waste money since im so shitty with working with internals on computers
Looks very cool, this is the future of PC gaming. Soon enough more companies will be doing the whole 'modular PC' thing. I like it, but I doubt could afford such a thing, especially only being 14 I can't even get a full time Job :/
I could see this being really useful. practically a revolution. Just take your modules out of your machine, go to a lan party and plug them in there!
Oh my god... this is going to be how you build a pc in the near future. No more wires and shit for me...
BTW this Razer guy have a nice hair cut lol
IKR lol im glad im not the only person thinking it
he is the CEO, i cant believe he has that haircut
sur puppa That's the awesome thing in IT. No matter how you look, your skills matter.
Another way of looking at it is.
"He's razor's CEO, he knows he can have whatever haircut he fucking wants"
to me it just shows he doesn't want to be like other ppl witch is great and unique so u could imagine is is prob like that on a project that makes what he does unique
Companies and products like this need to exist in order to push the (what I think is brilliant) modular design trend. My only prayer is that they will gain enough traction to support themselves and stick around long enough to make modular, hassle-free design a standard.
Motorola with the modular phones now this cool, next I want to see modular everything
Oh gosh that's a big computer, that will be a problem I guess :(
It looks amazing, but im afraid the prize will make me cry xd
I have to clap. This is smart.
looks like it got some inspiration from a thermaltake level 10, this is smart, probably expensive as fuck though. i would like a look inside of these modules, and that whole subscription thing is actually kinda cool. personally i would prefer premade modules over building a pc (after building a few myself) sometimes its just annoying to build a pc imo. some of you may think differently but for the lazy people like me and the lazy people who refuse to learn how to build a computer, this is perferct
I love this guy he sounds so passionate and enthusiastic about this project. This is why I love Razor
Brilliant concept, I like the subscriber option/idea as well.
Basically this format would make a PC just as user friendly as any Console out there right now.
Full PC power made user friendly, excellent.
Good luck with it.

Them boys at Razor are nice, but expensive.

I'll decide when the reviews of this thing are up. I am mostly intrigued what the temperatures will be vs. traditional aftermarket cooling.
The future has arrived!
Holy fucking shit. All of this is all pure genius. This looks way more appealing than the steam box. Granted, theyre not really going after the same market but I definitely want this.

well any computer could be a steam box really you just install steam OS on you computer plug it into your tv and poof you have a steam box
Video not available in 'merica?
Look at the date it was posted...
This is wild. As a PC gamer for many years, this is an astonishing idea. I didn't have much respect for Razer before, but this has sueded me
this is amazing. like it. finally innovation on the PC front. PS now and this made CES 2014 a good show for me
If every brand apply this concept by creating their product modularly , then the PC will be all hell easier to replace and even user-friendly for non-techy people to upgrade their PC. I like the concept.
The uploaded has not made this video available in your country
"any OS" Hackintosh or no?
yes
hackintosh has limited amount of drivers and little to no official support.
I assume any OS means most windows and open source OSs like Linux (steamOS, ubuntu, android, etc.), BSDs, Solaris, etc.
I love this concept. If they had a mid range model available for reasonable cost I would certainly consider it. The subscription option also sounds like a good idea.
very innovative idea with the hardware swaps! I like that!
that looks and sounds amazing. From someone that has built hundreds of computers i would rather have that if it promises on the usability and compatibility of the os and components
They say it can run on any OS. Is there any possibility of an Apple OS?
that looks amazing and beautiful but... honestly? I love so much the way pc is now in terms of building it, simply because it is so much fun to make researches and build your pc with your hands then customize it with led coolers and water cooling and window cases and etc etc... I mean, it is just too fun to do it, cant believe the next generation is aiming to a black magic box that all look the same :(
Project Christine sound like it was really thought i cant wait for its release
This is my dream. Please make it happen Razer
Only razor concept i haven't forgotten about...make it happen; its a game changer
Oh almost forgot the haircut rocks!! Who is this guy's stylist!! :)
I like the idea of a subscription, it's a better way to keep your computer updated
I really dig the subscription idee ... The modular part, i dont know, will make it more expecive.
This is amazing I would love to do a subscription based PC upgrade program!
When is this OUT I WANNA GET THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Razer Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger Edition
In today's environment if you're going to pre-announce a product it should be at most 12 months out. People's attention spans are hard to hold when were being constantly flood with tech that IS available.
subscription based pc sounds like a great idea.
hold up, so if i choose to stop paying the sub fee on this thing, do i have to send the WHOLE thing back to razar?????? i am intrigued by the concept though.
you just send back the old module that you replaced...
its looks really cool BUT...will it blend ?
yeah but you cant use ANY graphic card because you would have to buy special graphic cards from razer. but please tell me if i am wrong like maybe you can buy any graphic card then open up the gpu case from razers modular system and just place it in there and plug it in but thats very unlikely
looks amazingly extreme
His voice reminds me off one of those apple product trailer commentators
I want this damn machine more than i want to have a huge plane!
Wow, I like the idea of it potentially being subscription based. I;d sign up for day one assuming it comes to the UK.
Great Idea. Cool concept. I imagine it will be crazy expensive though.
thermaltake have similar looking cases
beautiful but how much?
2k
oh damn
This would be the next big thing 2 years from now.. Well Done!!
The CEO just sounds smart
All I thought was "no more dust"
Prices might just cut off the customer base...
I like the idea. I hope they make it.
Essentially
they really don't need a steambox this is perfect and i don't know the inerworkings of a steambox but id imagine much easyier 2 replace everything specialy graphix cards
No more dust cleaning yess!!!!
I love the idea of this. Been putting off getting a PC for years but this could change my mind. Problem is going to be getting PC manufacturers on board though. Razer does most it's stuff in house.

Always liked Razer even if not all their ideas have worked. The PC industry better get it act together at some point before their isn't an industry left. Razer I have to give props for making the effort at least.
I thought PC was already modular.
Not available in my country... Well then I seem to be at a disagreement and a bit upset I can not see the video first hand and have to rely on comments

are there any fans present in this?
absolutely not
I didn't see any ports on it. Did anyone else? I like at least 4 usb ports up front and 4 on the back.
mineral oil cooling, i like
i feel like Tan speaks like Steve Griffin :D
personally as a gamer but a PC noob.. i think this would be amazing
this PC is sick
Can in stall Mac os x mavericks ? =P
Loving this idea
Modular? Subscription based? Yes please!
wow this is cool i hope it comes out
This looks so amazing! I want it!!
that voice remember me stewie but older...
This looks so amazing!!!
Says this video is not avail in my country...but I'm in Michigan!

well say bye to your careers, computer engineers

Well that's just damned cool
this looks great

please. if u end up making this, make sure u guys ship to counties like new zealand and other countries.
new definition : monthly hardware subcription !!
couple of years awey... why are we being told about this shit now then lol tell me in a few years when its uncertain there will be something that can rival it

You can't even see your own components, you won't be able to choose exactly what you want.
And what happens when new standards comes out ? Like DDR4, new sata, pciex,...
It looks silly. I don't want people to dumb down PC's. I want it to continue to be semi-exclusive.
Cooler name than "Fancy Screen"
PFFT PREPOSTEROUS
Tottaly jaw dropping!
it looks very cool
i think this is pretty cool and plus that subscription tho I would definitely get that
since a TOP OF THE LINE AKA BEST PC OF ALL TIME that u can buy off of stores goes around 15k its a lot of money but when i buy one project christine i can have the best pc of all time all the time from the shipments of the new and best gear every month and wont have to waste money since im so shitty with working with internals on computers
