Agreed! Replacing my failed FG shocks right now. The hand tools spring compressors that is the most difficult part. And a bit scary with all that tension on them.
Hey man, i never comment on videos but i truely have to say thank you!! i was stuck at the wishbone stage and couldn’t figure out how to squeeze it out. your brilliant in depth video got me to do it first try. Thanks heaps!!!! truely.
If you're watching this trying to do a stock falcon strut there are a couple things that will save your day. This bloke has LOWERED springs, so the struts just pop out... I just spent three hours thinking I was an all thumbs bum... Now I'm back where I started... Those struts aint gonna pop out like that with stock springs. You'll have to remove the ABS sensor from the stub axle and the Sway Bar Link (the 14mm connection between the strut and the ball joint) BEFORE you drop the last bolt off the top. Also, note the position of the strut mount and the top hat springs for reassembly, there's not much tolerance. I asked a mechanic for a quote to do this job (on FB) and they never replied to me. they're usually replying in seconds... I reckon I know why. If you're not super duper confident this job is gonna bust your balls... (with a stock spring Y'all)
Great example of getting it done with a minimum of fuss, appreciate you putting this up mate, done one side of my Falcon, will do the other on my next day off 😁
Great explanation …. Well done! Only difference when I did it was to undo the sway bar links and I loosened the top nuts before I put it up in the air …. A 17mm crows foot helps with getting to the nut o under the computer. 👍
Great video and easy to understand. The music was getting to me towards the end. I liked the second track. Keep up the good work. What is the most likely problem with a squeaky front end? Cheers
do the top 3 mount bolts need to be tightened to a specific specification?? im thinking of getting hsd coilovers and just chuckikg them straight on the car as i think i need new better springs anyway. cheers mate
When you drive over bumps and the car tents to keep bouncing after wards , or if you physically push down on the car and it’s effortlessly bounces up and down afew times , it will need replacing , shocks should be nice and stiff being more stable on the rd uso
Cheers man, really informative video and easy to understand. Im replacing my stock shocks with koni adjustables this weekend, this video has helped me out heaps. 👍, keep up the great work 💪
Great vid mate. Got the suspension done and have discovered a tasty new pick-me-up drink while in the garage with the WD-40. Apparently, my singing voice has become smoother than silk, to the point where I’m negotiating a big $$$$ recording contract. Is there anything this stuff can’t do??? 😉😆
It's critical that the top mount with the three threaded studs is in the correct position before you decompress the coil spring. You're going to find alignment issue if you don't. Don't think you can twist it as it's under tension once you take coil spring compressors off. Haynes manual states you have to align the top cap so that the end of the upper part of the spring is at the correct angle from the centre of one of the mounting studs.
awesome video bro chilled vibes to love the video. You given me the motivation to give it a go aye on my xr6 au ute! thanks G appreciate the video subscribed then to peace
I’m going through replacing shocks on my 09 FG at the minute and I spent 4 hours wrestling one of the bastards out. Never dawned on me to slip it down like that
How do you know when your car needs new shocks? I got a Ford falcon I'm sure there's so much wrong with it, and I kinda don't trust most mechanics these days, maybe you know what my shit car needs just by telling you the sounds it's naming while driving it 😅 your vlogs are mean as BTW!!👌🏽
Mean video bro. Changed my springs in a FG today. What a mission of a job using hand tools

The legend we never knew we needed! great video bro.
By far the best explanation video for this fg suspension. Thanks legend made putting my coilovers in a breeze 🤘

I am thinking why can’t you do spring clamp to make the whole strut shorter before remove it
@@rajaponnadhorai9296 Compressors wont fit while the strut is in situ, and I was trying to help other people with stock struts & springs by posting..
@Matt Jacomos that is a good deed... Probably the shorter spring clamp would do the job.
@@rajaponnadhorai9296 no it won't the springs are very long on this vehicle. Are you familiar with the BA falcon?
@Matt Jacomos I have a FG it seems my front shocks bugged. Michanic said it 600 dollar just for the labor. 😳
Great example of getting it done with a minimum of fuss, appreciate you putting this up mate, done one side of my Falcon, will do the other on my next day off 😁
Used yr YT post to change my daughters struts made it such a easy job following yr advice cheers 🤙🏾
Just changed my shocks and now the car is running Seki!! Thank you uso
Solid uso !! 🔥🙏🏽
@THEUSOWAY do the bolts have to be torqued to specific spec bro??
Excellent video mate. Exactly the information I needed to get the job done. Thanks!
I have a BA 5.4l. I need new shocks. This vid will help me get done. Thanks
Thanks bro. You saved my money. I done exactly ❤❤❤

Thanks bro that’s a great tip 💯

top control arm bushes rubbing on frame. easy to replace or try squirting them with a silicone based spray, not wd40
Very helpful video. Have to do my front shocks soon so will be referring to it as I go.
Good video I want to try this
But also want to replace the ball joint because it seems to be making a knocking sound
Your a legend thanks for the great details, I’ll be changing my this weekend
Cheers
Awesome vid, super helpful. About to do my shocks on my FG with lowered springs already.
Thanks Uso, that was a very detailed video! Thumbs up
how do you know how tight to do up the centre nut exactly?
35 Newton meters according to the Haynes repair manual
Great demo with grt background music bro, an Nuthin beats a WD-40 breath freshener cuz 😎 🤣🤣
Love your work uso miss that white wrx alofa aku
Great vid buddy cheers
Too meke brother, thank you 💪💯💪
Thanks Brother a fantastic video
Shot bro doing my falcon this weekend never done shocks in it should be safe
Great video brother. Good work.
Brilliant video, perfect soundtrack as well brother!!!
Great video Bro. Is there a need for a wheel alignment after this job ?
Thanks bro 🙏
You could do if you wanted to but she had no alignment issues after the install
Always get a wheel alignment after doing suspension work
@@Crippsyifythe uso said there was no need
I just picked up the same shocks haha and boom, here I am!
Yo bro super helpful! Really made it clear! Is it same process to change to king springs ??
Yeah bro but stock springs may not compress as easy and the kings in this vid.
do the top 3 mount bolts need to be tightened to a specific specification?? im thinking of getting hsd coilovers and just chuckikg them straight on the car as i think i need new better springs anyway. cheers mate
Surely there’s torque specs on google but I just went by feel that time lol
Top 3 mount bolts are 35 Nm and so is the piston rod nut.
What would be a reason for having to replace these? Or when should I replace these?
When you drive over bumps and the car tents to keep bouncing after wards , or if you physically push down on the car and it’s effortlessly bounces up and down afew times , it will need replacing , shocks should be nice and stiff being more stable on the rd uso
Lessgo uso thats the one
Top video honestly simple but informative
🤙🏽🙌🏽
Bro, that was awesome work, very detailed. Keep up with the great videos.👍.
great video man helped me out alot! easy to watch and follow by good job 🤘🤘

Hey bro no you should still be able to twist it
