Fell asleep after the kick but OK. Even though I would of gone through every kit part; gain staging, eq out problems (ringing, LP, HP etc), compress (without "baking in the bad") and eq to taste. Wake up and... S1, LA3A then L1 on Overheads? Should of split the file into mono left and right, send those to a group. Treat each side (eq, L1...), balance mono tracks, compress group track (76 over 3A (L1 before comp protects it)) with little eq. Wake up again. No drumbuss comp!? Back to Pensado's.
I use Logic and I absolutely hate to have all waves plugins grouped in one single menu, I see he's got the same problem here, is there any way to see them as in PT divided into categories?
Yes buy Auganizer or start using Logic X 10.1. I like 9 better for working fast so Auganizer is a good solution for organizing plugins in your system. Only 35$. Will saver you a lot of time.
daneeehhhh plugin manager in logic allows you to add the copy waves plugins or any plugins, for example if you want all your waves eq's or compressors or reverbs or anything else into their own folder you can do that. I recommend checking it out.
This webinar is great, and it provides alot of valuable tips and tricks for mixing drums. However, it would seem a bit counter-productive when the audio quality of an audio production video is total crap with sporadic crackling/popping noises and forced mono sound, lols :)
"I grew up mixing on SSL-desks". Commentary of the day :) Regarding mono-only : While not crucially important not having stereo, it still makes you wonder a bit a about the thought-processes behind making these videos.
Love your knowledge and ability to teach. May I️ ask...which headphones are those and do you prefer open back or closed, and why? Thanks again Ps Anyone who has thoughts on this matter please chime in 😎
To my taste was very pleasant the room track without all the mixing (45:06) , I would just get rid of the ring. Would that be a mistake ?! Thanks, Great video!
been having this problem... lets iv all my drums, samples, vocals and instruments in mono. when im mixing do i mix with mono waves or stereo vst . i normally mix mono with mono vsts then bus all channels to a stereo bus... js want to know wats d best practice.
Faking a room mic using an overhead track seems to give me unpredictable results. I assume it's due to phasing between the fake room and overheads tracks when meet up at the master bus. For instance when the compressor kicks in on the overheads the fake room channels tone takes over completely, consequently I have to revisit the fake room EQ.
that awkward moment when you sit down to an hour long webinar on mixing & realize you do everything exactly the same... and learned NOTHING. Still a fun watch nonetheless
In terms of EQ, G channels have a fixed Q. There's also some slight characteristic differences and terms of harmonic distortion. I personally prefer the E Channel, but I'm used to mixing on an actual SSL where I can flip to which EQ I want. Mixing in the box though, E Channel all the way! Personal preference though. Enjoy.
The differences are mostly in the EQ, the curves and the way it boosts and attenuates frequencies is different in each EQ, just use them both on the same channel with the same settings and A/B them to see for yourself.
Nice Job. I know it's a webinar, limited in time and thus possibilities... but it would be great to also see a more "natural" aproach with less editing and working more with what the drums sound anyway as an alternative.
I wonder how much Yoad charges to mix a tune ? I like his approach, i also think that when you have the right tools to do a job, life is more pleasant :)
is it that im working with Live, or is it the fact that im a bloody noob that i dont understand the "spill" thing? i mean, if the kick/snare etc are all recorded to individual tracks, there shouldn't be any spill afaik... appreciate somebody enlighten me on this one..
Electronic kits don't have this issue but acoustics kits with close miced drums will always have spill from the othe rparts of the kit even when very carefully miced. Broadly speaking you will gate the spill of the close mics unless its relatively low. For example, what a snare mic hears of the rest of the kit is not flattering and will likely have phase and tonal balance issues compared to the pair of overheads.
Good show Yoed! I think my kick drum problems are mostly because I keep it close to the same level of the other drum parts. The kick in this video was a lot louder than I would have set it, but it sounded great in the mix. (My OHs might be too loud as well.)
Very interesting video, especially as I just got several of the Waves plug-ins Yoad uses in this video for (electronic) drum processing among other tasks. Also interesting to note like myself that Yoad also feels distorsion adds something to electronic drums (response near end).
00:00 - 9:28 - Kick
9:28 - 21:49 Snare
21:49 - +/- 30:00 HiHat
30:00 - 44:03 Toms
44:03 - 1:14:56 Overall and other issues.
Please, like it to serve as an index. Thanks!
thanks
+Jeferson Torres Thanks a lot, man :)
The index is missing the SD reverb min 25:00
That snare sound was awful.
Why is video quality of his screen so bad too? Is this a joke?
כל הכבוד על ההסבר תבורך רק חבל שהצילום לא איכותי...
rendering in 720p doesn't make it 720p just so you know, waves
This was great... but hey, the output was in MONO !
video poorquality is making my eyes teary
Bad to hear the drumsound in mono - that sux big time....great video alltough

God blues Israel 🇮🇱
this would be very interesting, can't watch it without getting eyecancer though :(
It's not Logic Pro X, It's Logic Pro 9 with a different skin. You can download .tiff files to replace what icons you want.
Scusate!!dove posso trovare questo brano?è molto bello!!!..di chi è??..
Jesus fucking Christ the video quality is atrocious. How is it possible to see anything at all.
This is in mono? Epic failure guys...SMH
This video is just amazing. It shows how a really good drum mix can be done - pure mixing excellence with a musical approach. Thanx for that!
That's Logic Pro with new features, so probably a beta of Logic pro X...
What's the difference between the SSL E and SSL G channel?
Despite being mono, it was a big help. Thanks!
where is the point of making a mixing webinar without original sound ...
The headphones are Panasonic RP-HTF890-S ?
Anyone knows what song is that? Name of the band? Sounds very nice.
I use Logic and I absolutely hate to have all waves plugins grouped in one single menu, I see he's got the same problem here, is there any way to see them as in PT divided into categories?

badly tuned snare.
yeah giving him hard time thats for sure
the songs called, for anyone who wants to know is called "these games" by Joe Sparks
well, thank you, sir!
Actually, I believe it's Darude by Sandstorm
this mixing is all in the box or with analog summing?
what daw is he using it doesn't look like protools

I can't read the levels he sets because the video quality is so bad
This was great - thx to all involved for bringing this together

Very useful video, helped me alot. Bad sound though with random cracking and popping and in mono :O
Your webinar was very helpful...thank u....Can you help with "MIKING" the drums Plz
To my taste was very pleasant the room track without all the mixing (45:06) , I would just get rid of the ring. Would that be a mistake ?! Thanks, Great video!
LOVE the quality of the video too, helps alot when i can count every pixel on screen ;) thanks so much though still
been having this problem...

Funny.I thank god for John Bonham.

Fantastic. Vey insightful video... I'll be watching more of these!
I think it's Sonar
that awkward moment when you sit down to an hour long webinar on mixing & realize you do everything exactly the same... and learned NOTHING. Still a fun watch nonetheless
more videos from Yoad mixing please :) or maybe more on how he was mixing Goldfrapp or Air.. thank you ..
what kind of DAW is that?
no 9, logic X is black not grey
So after watching the webinars of Yoad, i'm woundering. Is the mercury his signature collection ?
In terms of EQ, G channels have a fixed Q. There's also some slight characteristic differences and terms of harmonic distortion. I personally prefer the E Channel, but I'm used to mixing on an actual SSL where I can flip to which EQ I want. Mixing in the box though, E Channel all the way! Personal preference though. Enjoy.
what DAW is this?
nop
wow thats an old version of logic
The differences are mostly in the EQ, the curves and the way it boosts and attenuates frequencies is different in each EQ, just use them both on the same channel with the same settings and A/B them to see for yourself.
Really nice webinar! I can't find the C1 gate at waves thou. Anyone knows why?
Nice Job. I know it's a webinar, limited in time and thus possibilities... but it would be great to also see a more "natural" aproach with less editing and working more with what the drums sound anyway as an alternative.
what is that stupid keyboard click sound every so often. soo annoying
his mouse...
i dont mix in solo mode
Why Isn't the stereo that video?
I try not to use Limiters when mixing, BUT DAMN Yoad really nails it on the overheads with htat!
Really nice...thank you Waves and thank you Yoad...but why is in mono!?
what about the melody
especial with the rec tom
I wonder how much Yoad charges to mix a tune ?
I like his approach, i also think that when you have the right tools to do a job, life is more pleasant :)
@30:26 LMAO. "WITH TOMS ESPECIALLY WITH REG TOM (RECTUM); YOU GET ALOT OF SPILL..."
Logic
thanks wave!!! with this tutorial i make my drums sound big!! keep doing this tutorials!!
is it that im working with Live, or is it the fact that im a bloody noob that i dont understand the "spill" thing? i mean, if the kick/snare etc are all recorded to individual tracks, there shouldn't be any spill afaik... appreciate somebody enlighten me on this one..

amouseinyerhouse And that spill is what we call "bleed"... :)
Toms sounding wonderful. Do you always insert the individual reverb on each channel instead of using a aux track and send via buss?
what is that headphone?
Good show Yoed! I think my kick drum problems are mostly because I keep it close to the same level of the other drum parts. The kick in this video was a lot louder than I would have set it, but it sounded great in the mix. (My OHs might be too loud as well.)

I don't like the SSL eq presets because they usually have every band boosted.
very cool !
the video recording isn't good, the audio is in mono... But it sounds so good that it doesn't really matter
awesome tutorial as always
what brand headphones is Mr.Nevo using please?
The headphones are Panasonic RP-HTF890-S.
Tehstroyer Really? this earphone for 50$?
great video mr. master!
I've noticed with a lot of Yoad's webisodes that I do things very similarly, even down to the plugin!
I'm listening on headphones and i legitimately thought someone had entered my room at 9:39. lol
Really useful stuff... Thanks very much!
You're the man, YOAD!
Thought the same. Love his discography and aesthetics in music.
Its big problem to provide stereo sound to audience?)
What is the pluging use on snare gate??
how did Yoad get the Logic GUI to look like that it's very nice!, where can we get it!?
Is it possible that this is mono?
Yes, this vid's audio is all in mono...
Thanks so much!!! You are so good!
You are great!! Thanks for all your videos
I like the processing on the tambo. NIce trick there.
how did you get logic to look like that? great video btw
The thinnest snare around.
Can’t believe how awesome Yoad is !!
Especially with the "rectum"? 0:30:25
Sad that a pro-audio-company like Waves can't offer a simple thing like a stereo-track for a informative feature like this... Thumbs down!
I think this was a webinar, and its really dificult to set up a nice audio on them. It could have been worse I think
כל כך מרגש אותי לפגוש ישראלי ביוטיוב... מדריך מעולה!
I see Yoad, I click like... more Master Yoad please.
Great video!! Really nice
excelent vid Bro
top trick with the tambourine reverb!! thanx!
Thank you man
Super useful master-class! thanks a lot!
Thanks m8 :)
Master Yoda, I mean... Yeah master Yoda
Learning a lot. Many thanks...
