    I've been mixing for 20 years (on and off) and I still learn from every video I watch, people do things differently. Some over mix and over process...he keeps it simple done with great skill..Yoad explains things very well...great video!

    man...a half hour into this and I'm starting to rock back and forth like a mental patient at all the "consider this" going on...I'm usually fine with musical repetition and its a very important part of driving a song home but this is just killing me for some reason

    For all of you who think the vocalist is awful: 1) it must be wonderful to be so good at everything. Congratulations to you. 2) if you're actually professional recording engineers, your job is to make things sound as good as you can, not to judge. Polishing turds? Yes, that's exactly what we do. Every day. That's the job. If you don't care to work with sub-awesome performances, I suggest you turn yourself into Jack Joseph Puig or Chris Lord-Alge. Then you'll have enough rep to not need to spend time commenting here.

    • @sunbunker685
      @sunbunker685 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Touche.. If mixing is your JOB, you really can't make judgements towards the material, even if it's the worst thing you've ever heard. You make it sound as good as you possibly can and smile when they hand you that check!

    Fascinating to see how a raw vocal can end up sounding quite good. The raw performance didn't make sense to me, but when it was processed and then put in context, it all came together. Nice job! BTW, if we heard most pop vocals at the raw stage, we'd be surprised. Bless the mixers…

    Even though I don't use waves at this time, this was one of the best videos I've ever seen. Great teacher. I will watch this many times. I was surprised by all the criticism on the vocalist. I have had questionable vocalists who ended up with amazing songs. There are many very famous artists who aren't great singers in the classical seance but their team including producers and mixers knew how to package them. It is not my job to be a critic, it's my job to help find their nitch and direction and hopefully make them smile when they hear the results. I absolutely hate, did I say hate, despise polka but i will mix it as though I love it with every fiber of my being. I feel I can either be a mix engineer or a critic. I actually love the difficult ones, when I am successful with them, I know I really accomplished something.

    Beware! If you buy Waves Plugins is does NOT mean that you will benefit from updates forever. I recently got this mail:
    Dear Valued Waves User,
    We're writing to let you know that your Waves Update Plan for the following product(s) will expire in 14 days:

    Gold xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 7/6/2015
    Please keep in mind Waves Update Plan coverage is not necessary to continue using the version of the licenses you have.
    You only need to renew when you need the benefits gained by Waves Update Plan coverage. See below for a complete list of advantages for staying current.
    To extend your Waves Update Plan coverage online, click here.
    Or if you prefer, you can purchase your Waves Update Plan coverage by visiting your local Waves dealer.

    You get the latest Waves versions, which means compatibility with all major
    audio hosts and operating systems. See Tech Specs
    Additional Plugins
    With Waves Update Plan, you receive new plugins as they're added to your bundle.
    Never had any manufacturer doing this trick. If you read the terms and conditions it does not clearly state about this condition.
    Basically I really think this is a rip off

    • @waves
      @waves  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello maat020 please note that you do not have to purchase WUP, especially if you do not plan on updating your system. With that in mind there are many great benefits to having WUP including VIP tech support, priority bug fixes, updates, & added plugins for various Bundles.
      You receive a year of WUP with every new purchase. When you renew your Waves Update Plan, you get the amount you spend back in the form of a voucher that is good up to 50% off of bundles or bundle upgrades, or 25% off of single plugins purchases.
      If you have any additional questions please contact our Sales Office at 865-909-9200 or you can message them directly here: www.waves.com/contact-sales

      +maat020 wow thanks for sharing this guys. Waves audio reply didn't take care of this problem. The benefits paying extra money to have WUP is tech support, bug fixes, and updates? So that's not included in I initially purchase the bundle?

    • @LukeJF89
      @LukeJF89 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is how it works: You buy waves plugins with an arm and a leg thrown in and then they slowly take them back one by one until you do not own waves plugins any more and you have to buy them again. Waves Logic: Well your money has to go back into the economy some how!! We'll do it for you.

    Thanks so much. Really learned a lot. Edited my own vocals point by point along with your instructions and I'm really happy with the results. I noticed you duplicated the vocal track to add saturation. I've been placing saturation prior to compression on the idea that it would react more dynamically to the uncompressed signal. Would love hear opinions on that.

  • @ThisIsKeef
    @ThisIsKeef 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ur right about that. When I took a digital composition class, I was critiqued to ease off my compression and not surpass 3db of compression on certain aspects and tracks. I still use a stand alone compressor along with a built in compressor within a channel strip on my own compositions outside of school. I'll even send a compressed signal to a bus and compress that too Lol!

    I used to think the same thing...a lot of the plugins he uses is more focused on a vibe. And though a lot of these things sound subtle, they make a huge difference in the overall sound of the mix. If you don't hear these things, you either need better headphones/earphones or better monitors because if you are going to mix tracks, you need to be able to hear all of that.

    It depends on the character of the plugin.. my favorite is the Puigtec EQs on bass, guitar, etc.. boosting sounds awesome. Full of life & sparkle. Doing the same with the Rennaisance EQ may not sound as good. Some EQs sound best with a subtractive, while others a more additive approach. And entirely different depending on the source track...vocals, drums, or bass etc. But as a whole these Waves plugins are amazing & fully on par with analog hardware.. just a different flavor.
