Yeah, most likely. I suppose due to the limitations that the song presented, there wasn't a whole lot they could do with his character. No opportunity for dialog, limited possibilities for visual interaction. Still cool to see him though.
3:37-3:38 I like that little detail. They change her pupils. Almost all the other ponies have round pupils, but Nightmare Moon has sharp ones. It's a nice detail that added to show that long before her full transformation, she was already becoming Nightmare Moon.
I love your reactions and how you are unafraid to show when something affects you, you don't hide it to look "cool". If you watch closely in the animation, Luna's eyes are the first to change (3:36), then her hair becomes less structured and more floaty and insubstantial (3:48). Then her voice slowly hardens and deepens (4:02), then gaining a dual tone (5:00) until she finally gives in entirely to her own darkness (5:05). Love that it's a gradual change like that as no one just decides to be evil or violent, it's usually a slippery slope you gradually travel down.
I like the inclusion of Starswirl. And I think he probably went to tell Celestia, I don't think he was necessarily running away. Starswirl did appear in the Friend Forever comic: Reflections (I suggest you read it if you haven't. It's really good in my opinion :)). He just hasn't appeared in the show. I hope he makes an appearance in the 2016 movie, even if it's just a flashback, spirit, or part of the Royal Sisters' imaginings. I'm still waiting for the show to give us more background for Celestia and Luna and I've been hoping that the film does just that.

There are those who think that Luna was in some sort infected by an outer force of darkness to become NM. My own head-canon however is that she was brought to the brink of jealousy for her sister into a state of madness, (this is what happens when a God becomes insane) untill the mane 6 brought her a moment of sanity by the elements of harmony so that she could see that she was truly wrong in her actions.
I noticed that after Luna's eyes changed, if you look carefully enough, you will see that Luna's hair changed from what it was at the beginning, to sort of a cloudy look (around at 3:46 )

Just like most of the popular animations we've seen like "Lullaby for a Princess," this one is up there in my top favorites in terms of amazing imagery and emotion. About Nightmare Moon looking a bit off, maybe it's the fact that she doesn't have her headpiece on. Somehow I get the feeling that Starswirl might make his physical debut in the upcoming movie, that or in the series itself.

AG, you missed a few details in your viewing. During the song, just before Luna alters the Moon, you see behind her, two framed pictures on the castle wall. One of Celestia, and one, presumably of Luna. It's so dark that it's hard to make out. I noted that the 'dream' ponies Luna conjured all had the old style cloaks, even those in the group scene giving adoration to Tia, just before Luna dis-spells it. Over all, I'd have to say this is one of the best animations ever done, and it's now in my top five, right up there with Confrontation, Remembrance, Children of the Night, and of course... Lullaby for a Princess. Mind you, the order I stated them is NOT the order of best to least. My top five all stand on their own hooves. Keep on reacting my friend.
Apple Geek, I think I can explain why Duo Cartoonist put Star Swirl into the video. In the episode 'Luna Eclipsed', about Nightmare Night, Twilight asks Spike if he's read the book she gave him about Obscure Unicorn History... She goes on to say that Star Swirl was the most important wizard of the 'Pre-classical' era. Duo also put other hints of the time this video occurs in their work... Note that the opening scene shows Canterlot Castle fronted by the Village of Canterlot. (the city would not grow out of it for centuries). Also, the 'Snowdrop' style pony cloaks give away the time period as well (I think we also saw the same cloaks in the first Hearths Warming' episode as well). So, given all these clues, we come to the conclusion that this video portrays the distant past, and that Star Swirl was alive when Luna became Nightmare Moon. It is probable that this video also takes place decades, or even a century or so, after the end of 'Snowdrop', which was dated as well... the first part of Snowdrop takes place during the 100th year of the reign of the Two Sisters, post Discord's reign. So, The Moon Rises is probably at least 100 years later, or more. We know that from the end of this video to the first episode of MLP, that 1,000 years has passed, during which Luna / Nightmare Moon was imprisoned in the Moon. I heartily agree that this is a sample of what Toon Boom can do, and a small taste of what we may expect from Hasbro using the same program for the upcoming MLP movie. He may have already known about this due to Time Travel, but if he didn't, he would certainly try to stop Luna, and if she attacked, he could easily hold his own at least long enough for Celestia to come.
