I didn't particularly like the "globular" hair either, until I realised it actually did start off with a point at the end and only became rounded when she began transforming into NMM, who of course has that mist effect instead of a mane.
Actualy if you look, when her eyes change in to nightmares, where the filly ghosts or what ever you want to call them are in front of her, its still pointed,It doesnt change until around 3:28 after that close up, only a few seconds but still throws me off, Now if they waited and kept it pointed untill she was really night mare moon, Or had it Fade in to the mist effect, change over time then id understand. personally seeing it change after a scene after no where doesnt sit right with me, it gives off this rushed vibe, like they got tiered of lining it so just decided not to the rest of the animation.

Blank Slate if you don't get why her hair randomly changed style it is because that is part of the transformation. Like how her eyes changed and now her hair changes intil she finally transforms into Nightmare Moon.
I got a definite Disney feel to the video, and I ended up with a good bit of Liquid Pride in my eyes.

Guys, the song is not by Dou Cartoonist! Give credit to Ponyphonic (I think that's how you spell it) because he/she also made the song 'Lullaby For a Princess'. Both animators gave credit to him/her, I don't see why people can't give him/her credit as well

one of my favriote parts of this animation (through my 1,000,000 times watching it) is her slowly changing into Nightmare Moon example: the eye and hair change before the full out change I think its a good way to show her jealousy taking over

In terms of the fan animations of songs I think my rankings go like this:
1: Children of the Night
2: Lullaby for a Princess
3: The Moon Rises
4: Daylight's End
I like this but it was a bit to stagnant for me, I would have liked to see the big scene changes we got in Lullaby, especially since this IS the birth of Nightmare Moon and the song itself is so epic. I know animating is hard and time consuming, but I think taking longer and having a more dynamic animation is worth the wait. The tone set by the visuals actually reminded me a lot of Silly Filly Studios' Daylight's End animation. Much calmer song, four year old animation, but it gave the same overall visual feel. The Moon Rises is one of my favorite fan songs and, to be totally honest, while this animation is great it doesn't do the song justice. Lullaby and Children were so befitting to their songs that it felt like the songs could have been made for the animations, instead of the other way around. This was...lackluster by comparison. I KNOW people are going to hate me, but i have to be honest.

Joshua Mathis Please remember that this is my personal opinion and is based on my preferences. I perfer Children of the Night based on the general visual style and overall narrative of the animation. Not to discount WarpOut's efforts, in fact I think WarpOut did incredibly well, I just think it could have been even better had some things been different (using the full version of the song and fixing some of the glaring animation errors, for eaxmple.) Children is the best in my opinion, but Lullaby comes really close.

Glad to see you again =) And I completely agree with your opinion, this is really good but nowhere near as cinematic, smooth and dynamic as Lullaby for A Princess. Surprisingly there's quite a few people who say this is actually better. Well to each their own I guess.

Dang. 1:39 That intro reminds me of something from Disney, I think. 1:44 It's a movie trailer now? Coming to theatres this winter: "The Moon Rises". 2:00 Wow. That animation and lighting looks great. 2:15 Never mind. That is clearly EileMonty. I'd recognize that voice anywhere. 2:28 This animation is smooth as silk! 2:45 A wild Star Swirl appeared! 3:15 Ooh, Nightmare Moon eyes. 3:53 A red sky at night? That's not good. 4:10 More "Blank Check Sings"! 4:41 I didn't know Nightmare Moon was a Changeling. She's singing with two voices. 4:45 You were almost right about the blue fire. That's more like a greenish-blue or turquoise. 5:11 Even though Nightmare Moon has normal wings and not bat wings (although I think they should have been bat wings from the beginning). 6:22 I want to se more from them, too! 8:58 I don't remember hearing about that disease. | That was nice. Best of luck in this last month. I remember in college I always called November "Panic Month". Even though I was always on top of my studies, who still had a lot going on, including getting ready for the Spring Semester. Also, I graduated in the Fall, so November was just plain crazy for me that semester lol.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it yet or not, but Starswirl having witnessed Nightmare Moon is canon. In the Book, the Diary of the Two Sisters, it's mentioned that Starswirl had begun his time traveling by that point and he had gone to the future and witnessed thing he could not tell them, but made him really sad when seeing and talking with them. He knew what Luna would become, and it hurt him.

I can't hear that song without getting literal chills.
This really REALLY can flow into Lullaby with the ending . Since Lullaby only showed the fight I can see this leading directly into that battle you see in Lullaby as Star Swirl had ran to warn her sister.
Some of ponyphonic's songs work as a concept album: Harmony Ascendant - Starlight Waltz - The Moon Rises - Lullaby for a Princess - Twilight's Journey.

I so got a Disney vibe from all of this. The animation style on the face and the music. I was so expecting the credits to say "Based on", but appears to be original work.
Yeah, Ponyphonic's songs definitely have that vibe. And Duo Cartoonist's intro is a bit reminiscent of Aladdin, as I've seen a couple reactors point out.

Yeah, I agree. The Preview showed more dynamic movement, especially right after her eyes changed. Not to mention, Star Swirl moves much less in a panic than in the Preview. Yes, I know he's old, but still.

I just noticed that Luna's hair becomes more like a blob later in the song than her beginning.....because of you look at Nightmare Moon's hair it is globular and not like normal hair

So, this may have been mentioned already, but her hair is not always globular. I noticed that it only did that after the phantom ponies show up when she shouts 'I'll not be overshadowed' at 1:52. It's a subtle chgange

eehhhh....this softened a lot of the emotion that was originally in the WIP product
I often find that happening when I watch animatics. Movements and expressions can seem more exaggerated than the end product, and your mind can fill in the blanks in ways that's hard to recreate.
Blank Slate the movements are just...sharper in the animatic. They show more anger and intensity than the full animation

I love this video a lot and I think it is a great idea that Luna's mane changes at the same time as her eyes! As she walks the hall, her mane is really like hair. And when her eyes change, her mane becomes more foggy, like Nightmare Moon's. Love that transition!

i absolutely adore The Moon Rises. The animation being absolutely stunning and EileMonty's singing was beautiful. I really love the more emotional singing from her. it feels more like a musical number focusing on the emotional turmoil Luna was going through.

Her hair becomes "Globbily" Because, as with her eyes, they used to be normal, including the hair and eyes, then when the most of the pain in the song comes, she changes, and her hair and eyes turn more into Nightmare Moon's. Nightmare's hair is king of like a glob sometimes.
Actually, about her mane, watch it from the beginning and just follow it. While it had some sparkles to it, more or less it was like normal hair, you could see contours and the pointed end. It had only changed after Luna's eyes already had, when Luna was looking at the ghost image of Celestia and stomped the ground. Sadly, there was no animation of the change, just one shot she had normal mane, the next, it was starting to defy gravity.
