- A raspberry trellis is a structure that supports raspberry plants, which can grow to be 5-9 feet tall. Trellises can be made of wood or metal stakes with wire or twine strung between them. They can help keep plants tidy, make it easier to walk between rows, and make harvesting more convenient.
How to build a raspberry trellis
Prepare the area: Clear an area of ground that's wide enough for your raspberry plants and the trellis.
Prepare the posts: Use strong, sharpened posts that are at least 2.5 meters long. You can use wood posts treated with a non-toxic wood sealer, or metal posts.
Drill holes in the posts: Drill holes in the posts at the desired heights.
Drive the posts into the ground: Use a heavy hammer or post driver to drive the posts into the ground.
Run wire through the holes: Run wire through the holes in the posts, securing it at either end.
Plant the raspberries: Plant the raspberry canes under the trellis, spacing them about 50 cm apart.
Secure the canes to the wire: Loosely tie the stems of the raspberry canes to the wire with twine.
