As a proud owner of a GAP1 I echo everything said here and the watch looks every bit as stunning in person as the macros portray. It’s lovely getting positive comments when folks see the watch on wrist; then you show the backside and their jaw drops.
Benzinger GAP 1 exudes high craftsmanship with esthetics that pleases with detail and restrain. Beautiful watch scholarly explained and lavishly screened.
I noticed the same thing! I'm sure it's possible they were finishing the dial and had a whoopsie right at the end, but I wouldn't be able to not notice it.
Andrew, thank you for help me articulate my feelings about the new Glashutte Original Panoinverse in stainless steel I purchased and received a couple of weeks ago. I now understand I own it because it is a piece of artwork that just happens to tell the time. (at least when I have my glasses on, my 71 year old eyes just are not what they used to be). Keep up the great videos. Cheers, Patrick
I have a Chronoswiss Kairos chronograph with engine turned silver dial and heat blued hands. The guiloche patterns, the softness of the silver overlaid with the blue hands is mesmerizing.
That’s truly incredible! What a beautiful work of art!! Watch making is exciting right now there are so many independent and micro brands offering amazing value and hand crafted art.
Sheer beauty and lavish craftmanship make this a very understated watch that draws you in and wants to to stay and admire it for a lifetime. The time spent saving for this isn't too scary either, rather this on your wrist than a certain other hyped manufacturer we could mention!
What an amazing time piece. I'm a big fan of Benzingers work. Which I've recently learned of by way of his partnership with Towson Watch Company here in Maryland USA. Such amazing craftsmanship.
Thank you for presenting this brand. I think where a lot of these newer brands or micro brands fall short is the singular design language or cohesion of the piece. For example there’s classical decoration on the dial but modern angular lugs. There’s about five different decorations on the movement and a random decoration on the main spring that doesn’t not match the rest of the movement. I liken this to a chef that throws in jellies, foams, and gold flakes for no reason other than to show their technical skills. This is similar to why the initial Code 1159 failed. It had complexity for the sake of complexity. I’ll look forward to future designs but this is my opinion for why this watch didn’t capture me.
Wonderful horological skills at the service of an extraordinary timepiece, and yet. . . As you point out, a little aesthetic coherence would be welcome. However, even if it were more affordable financially, I cannot afford the waiting time on Roger W. Smith's queu for a George Daniel's. If Herr Benzinger could throw in a coaxial escapement one might overlook the case. I appreciate your insightful comment.
I actually prefer the older models which don’t have so many Subdials. It’s very pretty. And compared to many other companies that do guilloche this is more elaborate and fairly priced I suppose. It’s clearly not the same as a Breguet or Vacheron but very nice. Garrick watches out of Norfolk do beautiful engine turned dials at a very reasonable price. But not the same skeletonisation
This is a lovely watch and I'm happy to see it getting its due. However, I don't think there's any concrete evidence for Breguet working with L'epine (or Berthoud). In fact, so called Breguet hands and numerals were first used by L'epine but were popularized by Breguet.
Me: quietly saving up for the Glashutte Original Panomatic Lunar and Benzinger Internet: suddenly discovers Glashutte Original Panomatic Lunar starting 3 weeks ago and now Benzinger. Thank for nothing. Now these will be yet more watches that by the time I can afford them at their current prices they are no longer anywhere close to their current prices. Jochen is a great guy though, so he deserve the business boost.
I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice that. Looks like some rut or staining on one of the wheels. But...even so it's art, and we all know art isn't perfect.
The anterior and posterior views of the watch are beautiful, and I can appreciate the level of craftsmanship, but the lateral view has me confused: the case looks disproportionately thick--to the point that (even if I had that kind of money to spend) I wouldn't want this watch.
Lol you comment as though you have some sort of clue about watch prices. When you consider Rolex makes over a million watches a year and what you get for the price, this is an absolute bargain! Do yourself a favour and look at how rose engine turning is done by hand, how the patterns are done WITG HAND PRESSURE, the lack of machines available, the lack of artisans who know how to use them, the hundreds of hours spent by hand on the dial and one mistake and you start again and then you won’t be so quick to comment. #dunningkruger
Cheap is subjective. This isn’t knocked out in a few mins like a Rolex. This takes 6 months to make so at circa 10k that’s cheap on the basis that the watchmaker will not receive that much profit. If thinking cheap without context, then a swatch or anything from AliExpress is in range. Perhaps stunning value is a butter descriptor.
2004 in my third and final year of WOSTEP we skeletonized a ETA-6498. That's "only" three bridges but it still took me a full week to cut/saw. And then another whole week to finish it into something that looked okay. The slightest mistake anywhere in this process and you need to scrap that bridge and start over. So yeah, this Benziger is actually cheap.
Let’s stop with this stupid comment, you could literally say the exact same thing about a $50 watch to somebody who doesn’t know anything about watches. They might think that’s expensive.
Like everybody else in this world. To an average millionaire it is extremely cheap, while the same amount for a 400$/week worker it means surviving. But this is not what he's talking about. Cheap is intended "for what you get" in horology value. Just think he was talking about houses: a 15.000 $ house would sound pretty cheap. Likewise a 15.000 dollar supercar would sound cheap. That doesn't necessarily mean 15.000 $ are a negligible amount of money, but the use you made of them. If you would use that same amount for feeding your family because that what matters to you, no one would tell you anything.
It’s subjective. What’s objective tho is that it’s only 1% as expensive as some watches out there and considering the man hours spent probably the cheapest watch per hour invested
It is. If you are being sarcastic, than it’s quite embarassing at how unfamiliar you are with watches and their prices considering a nautilus can be bought for 200k or a simple Rolex day date in steel for more
What, no coaxial escapement? I am saddened by the imminent passing of some wonderful horological skills, but the survival of guillochage and engraving is not enhanced unless these skills are exercised in the furtherance of a coherent esthetic vision.
Lol what? You seem to say a lot but with little substance, as though you are trying to impress dumb people with your very basic knowledge. You do know it’s a Harbring movement yeah? I didn’t thinkso lol just like you think a co axial escapement is the bees knees yet mostly not found in watches at 100k try opening your ears rather than your mouth champ, it will be less embarasing
Nice but I rather avoid watches for life. I mean my taste changes or I might need to sell my watch for some reason. That one would next to impossible to get rid of quickly for anything close to price paid no matter was it MSRP or second hand.
Possibly. But considering if you get one secondhand for 8k it’s not exactly a nautilus that’s dropped 200k. Just like a hyper car, watches ain’t for everyone and not looked at by ppl that are truely into watches
Most of these watches have Beautiful faces. Why can't they make the whole watch beautiful. The side of the watch is so often a slab sided nothing. How hard would it be to give the sides some shape. Please don't tell me its to save costs. If I'm spending a pile of money, I want a sexy watch housing. Thanks . Enjoy your show.
Much better than a date just which is the 2nd cheapest Rolex I agree! Rolex are “fancy” watches that rappers and lazy people buy because they are insecure and do not know much
Judging by how you speak, you are either 15 years old or on 15k a year. Why would you open your mouth before you open up some videos on rose engine machines. Your lack of knowledge is almost as cringe as your hood talk. These watches aren’t designed for hoodlums who would buy fake iced out Rolexes.
I called this brand a super fake Breguet wannabe. No innovation st all, everything made in China and at best (only their most expensive pieces) assembled in Germany. It's a shame to call this watch "Made in Germany" and I wonder if it's even legal calling that watch made in Germany
While entertaining, I know that these videos are created to help promote their business - selling watches. However, this was just a shameless 9 minute advertisement for a poorly finished watch. Did he say it's all made in China, because I started fast forwarding to the end of the video?

At the 7:00 position of the left hand subdial I think there’s a chunk of guilloche that has been gouged out.
There's a lot of imperfections to be spotted here, but I guess it all adds to the charm of a timepiece of this type
I noticed the same thing! I'm sure it's possible they were finishing the dial and had a whoopsie right at the end, but I wouldn't be able to not notice it.
Speaking of rose engine lathes, I'd love to see some RGM watches on your channel. Definitely one of my bucket list brands.

I have a Benzinger Joy. It's an amazing watch, and level of workmanship is outstanding
Benzinger is such an underrated watch manufacturer and the GAP 1 is heat.
The Benzinger looks so cool & the price is affordable.

Stunning piece, great video highlighting true artists
What a fantastic watch. Thanks for this story!
That’s truly incredible! What a beautiful work of art!! Watch making is exciting right now there are so many independent and micro brands offering amazing value and hand crafted art.
Stunning piece of watchmaking at a price that makes a mockery of most of what the 'big names' are charging.
Beautiful watch for sure however it is way too thick and thus doesn't look as refined as others.
Beautiful story told in the first few minutes.
So cool, finding these pieces. Cheers, Andrew!
Beautiful timepiece thanks for sharing
Andrew I watched you interviewing Roger Smith; I would love to know his opinion of the dial design.
Considering the work thats gone into this piece the price is an absolute bargain. Thanks for sharing this Andrew.
Killer watch. All Benzingers but this one specially.
Sheer beauty and lavish craftmanship make this a very understated watch that draws you in and wants to to stay and admire it for a lifetime. The time spent saving for this isn't too scary either, rather this on your wrist than a certain other hyped manufacturer we could mention!

Really fine vid Andrew. Thanks
This is what horology is actually about...real artisans and masterful engineers putting a bit of their soul into a piece

I believe he still does those, they are based on 6497/8 movements.
Beautiful piece of craftmanship ❤
Benzinger certainly is making some absolutely beautiful watches. I would be thrilled to own one.
Not the first Habring caliber with Benzinger. They make a 5-minute repeater together.
This is a lovely watch and I'm happy to see it getting its due. However, I don't think there's any concrete evidence for Breguet working with L'epine (or Berthoud). In fact, so called Breguet hands and numerals were first used by L'epine but were popularized by Breguet.
The shape of the case makes it look a lot thicker than it actually is. A little too traditional for me.
Beautiful watch, well worth the money for the craftsmanship.
Brilliant presentation.

Purely stunning
A great deal for sure, its a shame those numerals on the calendar dial are so offset. Seems an easy fix.
How thick ? 11.5 mm ? Looks like 20mm 😳
For a watch this thick it should at least hold a few grams of snuff tobacco in a secret compartment
6:46 , hair on the subdial ?? Even I don't make rookie mistakes like that.
Fun fact, there's a specific cnc machine that's been out for about 2-3 decades that can replicate cut guilloché exactly.
Lol no there’s not! They can’t EVER go as deep, nor as fine a detail… 😂
I'm seeing imperfections everywhere, especially on the movement which looks like the work of a very new apprentice.
I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice that. Looks like some rut or staining on one of the wheels. But...even so it's art, and we all know art isn't perfect.
I saw it too and had exactly the same thought. I guess that's why it's not a Lange. Or a Lange price. @@jayruggiero1315
I thought it was a prototype where they forgot the finishing, the movement looks very cheap now.
Are you expecting PP level finishing at a fraction of the price?
@@danc5677 I'm expecting better than I see here.

That is a beautiful watch! I would definitely wear one if it didn’t cost $14K, but it is beautiful!

Fantastic watch!
Fire vid as always
Stunning watch
Bazinga !
I am actually surprised by the price tag because this watch whispers in a classy way: give me your bank account

Đồng hồ khá giống với những chiếc đồng hồ của George Daniel
George Daniels was also heavily influenced and inspired by Breguet.
That's a proper watch
My great grandad loves the design. Reminds him of his youth.

THE Sheldon Cooper Timepiece 🫣
it sourely worths more, double or triple, still, I wouldent buy this particular one ieven if I had money
10 bar as well!?

A beauty but not as cheap as the title suggests - 13000$ is not pocket money
Very cheap for what you're getting. Many comparable watches go for 50 to 120k.

GS does some nice cases in precious metals. They are unobtanium.
Giving off George Daniels Vibes...
They spend thousands of hours on the dial and movement and then they add those god awful lugs. What were they thinking?
