Been playing this game for about 2 weeks now and I'm blown away at how deep it is. It gives me a headache trying to absorb everything so I don't make a mistake, especially where to build my permanent base. I didn't realize there were way to power your base by just using the atmosphere its in. That and learning about economy's and the codes for each galaxy has me addicted.
i wish if you had a landing pad you could just land at your base from space or jumping straight to the landing animation ive had alot of issues with flying through the planet
I have numerous underground bases that arent in cave systems that are around 4 years old that never got messed up from terrain. The key is to use the actual building process itself to clear the terrain. Like placing a bunch of floors down that clear away big volumes of terrain, basically creating a cave. The cube rooms and prefab rooms are all really good for this too.
One tip, resources found with the analysis visor that are collected in miners (gasses, activated indium, etc) degrade as you travel away from the center, but do not degrade if you travel vertically. This is a great way to make a vertical resource farm into a skyscraper if you want to.
There is a base on my planet where all the terrain has respawned and a chunk of the base is not accessible, BUT, there was this tunnel that was dug with terrain manipulator. Just a single medium size shot straight through the hill that was perfect. The difference was the colored wall lights where on the tunnel walls. Don't know if there is something to that, use at your own risk.
Question: what do you guys use your bases for? I haven’t played in a few years, but I remember building nice bases and then being like, “Welp, that’s done.” Then I left and never returned, because there wasn’t anything useful or interactive with the base. Couldn’t sit on chairs, sleep on beds, no cooking stations, no storage IIRC, only very basic decor (flags and miscellaneous clutter you see in planet outposts), just an empty husk of a building built for, well, to pass time I guess. Has any of that changed? Are the bases actually used for something now?
Most of these things you've named, you can now do in your base, you can cook, have a big farm there that you can harvest, sit on chairs and have portal, appearance modifier, storage containers all on one place without need to fly to the space station. And now also thanks to the quicksilver shop in anomaly there is sooo much things for decorating your base. If you are creative enough you really can build beautiful awesome bases. The game has really changed a lot, if you played it last time a few years ago it is going to feel like different game.
the first base type i build is the place i primarily go idle so i build a nice house thats gets better as the playthrough progresses and of course that base has a warehouse with storages. the second base type i build is farms whether it be an outdoor farmstead with a farm house or a greenhouse styled farm with a lab facility the third base type i build are mines which normally have drills, ore storage and sometimes a factory or just a warehouse. i never include access to my primary storage or a trade terminal to force myself to travel. you could also build a settlement like base that has access to all the base "story" quest givers such as the overseer and armourer

One thing I've noticed. For the game to have planets that number in the Quintillions, I sure do find a LOT of planets that everybody has already discovered...With that many planets, the chances of running into another player, or their base, or a planet they've discovered should be astronomically SMALL.
That's true, I suppose if you're in Euclid it's not that uncommon as it's the first galaxy and hundreds of thousands of people have played the game. The more galaxies you visit the less common it gets

There are a few options you have for building into rock, depending on your aesthetic and functional desires. For example, if you lay floor tiles into the ground, they seem to permanently clear a small space above them. Flipping such a floor tile projects the empty space downward. I use this whenever I want to build tunnels with rough rock walls, by putting tiles into floor and ceiling of the tunnel and getting a space big enough to drive the standard exocraft through. Downside is, whenever you drive into such a tunnel, you have to say "this tunnel is not a natural formation". The one thing that is almost impossible to build permanently and reasonably quickly is organically curving tunnels.
do you know how i can „activate“ the size change option on Xbox? it always says „size changing not possible“ as example with the underwater dome that some people have huge variants of but for me i can only build a poophouse size one😅
