Why I Became 'The Bot Hunter' on Hardcore - Blizzard Failed Us!

For 20 years, I’ve played World of Warcraft and accepted bots as an unfortunate part of the game. They never really affected my experience-until five weeks ago.
During my Hardcore journey, while trying to obtain The Pacifier from the rare mob Lo'grosh in Alterac Mountains, I came across two bots disrupting my experience. I reported them daily for 12 days and rallied others in the area to report them too. But nothing happened. Blizzard’s ‘Report System’ failed, and on day 13, I’d had enough.
I realized I didn’t need to wait for Blizzard to step in-I could take action myself. And that’s how I became the Bot Hunter.
In the past five weeks, I’ve killed over 300 bots. Some say it doesn’t matter, but I believe otherwise. Taking action, no matter how small, is infinitely better than doing nothing.

The fact that you're, singlehandedly, doing more for the bot situation than the devs themselves is shameful for them and glorious for you.
1 week of GM privilege and I could clean the entire server for bots. They are EVERYWHERE and super easy to spot.

I got so tired of reporting bots that I stopped after literally thousands of reports over the period of TBC and Wotlk Classic with only minimal results. Then, SoD started and ... ohhh! Look at those 20 Bots already farming leather in Duskwood 24/7 for the first two weeks straight. I'm done with official, I'm back on private where actual admins care about their community and the game. And they do not even charge me a penny!
Throw the devs of private servers a donation like Wikipedia.

The current Lead Project Leader or whatever is completely brain dead when it comes to WoW. She does nothing to address the botting issues, or even the griefing issues for that matter, and just sits there twiddling her thumbs thinking it will all go away. It's kind of disgusting.

@@Galithrania TBF absolutely no one at Microsoftivsionizzard gives a damn about the game, hence why when Microsoft took over they released a huge planned release rollout and revealed it to the world. This means they would have everything planned and prepared but will ensure that absolutely nothing gets tested and that absolutely no GMs remain because they will be busy pretending to be Developers. They already terminated most of their GMs before Microsoft took over and when they did take over, they fired the rest of them. The one's remaining are pretending to be something else so they don't get canned. They don't give a damn about the players or the players struggles because they don't play the game they make. Back in the day most of the people working on WoW actually played the game and that's why they wanted to create something they could enjoy as well while remaining true to the lore of things. That time has passed and the company is no longer the same sadly.

It ONESHOTS mobs bro. I use Seal of Command which does 70% of your normal weapon damage when it procs. I also put +7 weapon damage on the weapon. If i hit a mob my own level and it procs, it dies from 100-0 :D

Man. I love your dedication. I was levelling a new alt over near Coldridge on a PVP server (TW) as a dwarf warrior. I see these level 7-9 dwarf hunters running in a what i can only describe as a pattern. They were decimating bears, boars, and big cats. So i log on my other character a paladin with skinning to make the best of all the skinnable corpses. I'm not long there and there must have been 50+ of these hunters just running around all doing the same. Some would die occassionaly and i rezzed 1 i think. They kept trying to get me to join them (i healed a few). I just kept skinning. We used to hate on them but this is crazy numbers of toons running around. I realized that only on HC does it actually shut them down somewhat as death is permanent. if you ever feel like just griefing chinese farmers i think i found a good spot for it hahaha.
Might not stop them but at least you can create corpse run fatigue. of course other Alli might come to their rescue. You could always have a level 1 alt yell in the area what you are up to? Keep up the good work :)

Blizzard don't care about bots. They're paying a monthly fee. What blizzard do care about is making people think they give a crap - they'll do a bot banning wave at some point, and be all, 'look, we banned all these bad bots, aren't we great?!' within a few days, these bots will have bought new accounts and started botting again.
I used to kill botters in original vanilla. Warrior shouts, whilst flagged, tricked the bots into attacking you - as did shaman magma totems. Once they were flagged, you beat the crap out of them.
The video production is getting so much better.

This is peak performance and comedy at the same time bro. The last time I played classic was TBC in 2021 and man was it infested with bots. I was farming elements in Netherstorm and the spots were plagued like Stratholme. You are doing god's work, keep it up!

1 Old GM, the newer GMS are soulless tech supports probably.
Not something to laugh about this other than players bend over and lets bots fk U.S. . Blizzard lets this happen. They are a diddy .

To add insult to injury, I would be willing to bet Blizzard’s year-on-year budget incorporates fluctuations for extra cash inflow from new account purchases after bot ban waves. And I even bet that the timelines for patch releases is tied with it so the botters can have more predictability.

I remember spending hours as a rogue in SOD, Alterac, and Hillsbrad, killing bots. I'd lure them all to one spot, mostly hunters, because they followed the same waypoints. I'd manipulate them into getting killed by mobs and make them loop endlessly. I'd kill their pets first so they couldn't summon them. So when they respawned, they'd try in vain to whistle and just keep dying in circles running back to their corpses. It was pretty fun until some fcking Chinese guy with a max-level character and full gear, from his bot farm would come and try to stop me, a me 10-20 level lower rogue. People often didn't understand these were bots and thought I was harassing players. The funniest part was when they got mad and all the bots would turn around and go home, and the path would be filled with their bodies because I'd block their way. It's a shame that real players didn't understand they were bots and would interfere. They would just make it harder for me.

I had a lot of fun playing HC, but after seeing bots fly in and out of Scholo 24/7, I just quit. I added most of them to my friend list and reported them daily. Nothing happened, and they’re probably still farming there. I lost all motivation to play after that. It's just frustrating to see.

I had no idea these bots existed until I was in Alterac Mountains trying to quest and the same people just kept running around and killing everything and there was even one that just ran node to node mining everything. Never stood a chance as an actual player. Alterac Mountain seems to be a hot spot.
Many bots in alterac. Both at the lions, the bears, the turtles and the ogres. I killed 4 two days ago at the Lions. They no shit ran same path, all chinese pet names, full mechanic. Its redicilous.

I remember playing Arathi Basin in the Wrath prepatch and I saw a million DKs. Keep in mind that I'm fully unaware of botting in this stage of the game because I couldn't really identify who was a bot. So I enter the bg and there are 2 real players (me and somebody else, forget their name and class) and the rest were stupid bots. I typed in the chat, "this will be a pretty easy game with a million Death Knights" and the other guy was like "these are bots, not real players." I was totally confused and I knew how powerful DKs are in WotLK, so I typed back "I don't think they are, and even if they are they should be pretty OP." Surely enough, he was right. We got crushed and they were totally useless, but since I never really was exposed to the botting crisis at first I laughed. It's now 2024, and every time I see one of the bots I report them and remind myself of how little action Blizzard takes against them.
Brooo! I remember this! The deathgrip botting shenanigens... That was so fucked up, you got insta deathgripped by 15 DKs at once and oneshottet :D

100%. The best thing about fresh is the fact that we can gatekeep the bots from ever getting into SM. Imagine five of me doing this a few hours per day... Big yikes for the botters.

Right now, I’m just using the mic on my budget headset, and it’s not great. That said, I don’t think anyone should feel the need to fund what I’m doing. Blizzard is really weird on bots, there is a big deal atm on cataclysm servers.
There are Auction House Sniping Bots on EVERY SERVER AND EVERY FACTION and they are reported 24/7 since 2022 and they are still in the game.
Those guyz make tons of golds, real players can't get a good amount of gold, neither by farming (cause of bots) nor selling things (cause of sniping bots)
It's weird man, I don't want to make a statement here, but I'm starting thinking that, some people working in Blizzard are getting bonus money from this.
Bots are bad, but you know what was worse? Being able to /spit on people, or Sylvanas in a bikini!
