Let the water do the painting to achieve great results. Abstract Watercolor landscape /Mexico 2020

  • Watercolour supplies I used in this video view below.
    Allow the water to create the textures and tones. In this abstract watercolour landscape I am using a new technique to achieve the organic rustic landscape that is reflected in the hills and mountains of Mineral de Pozos, Mexico. This is the first time I have used masking tape to create hard border around the painting and elevating the watercolour pad in different angels to manipulate the flow of paint. By doing so, I am creating a contrast between the organic flow of paint within the painting and the hard edge of the outer painting - the border. This is a great process to allow the watercolour pigment and water to do what they do best.
    Hope you enjoy my latest abstract watercolor landscape painting. Let me know what you think.
    Enjoy.
    Editing software: DaVinci 15. Great free software. easy to use.
    Watercolour Paint: Winsor & Newton Professional. More expensive than most but the colours are intense. I find I use less pigment with these paints.
    Watercolour Paper: 140lb cold press. Most midium priced papers in this weight are good.
    Brushes: Shanlian Hubi Fine Chinese brushes. You can buy them from Amazon.

    This is sublime and reminds me of the work by the absolutely amazing Lena Gemzoe. I already loved the fact that you demonstrate what breathtaking outcomes are possible when an artist opts to use a very limited palette. And so to see you embracing this wonderful "highwire watercolour technique" - that's awesome bro! (Which is one of the highest forms of praise here in New Zealand!)

    • @look4light
      @look4light  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Sharon, big thanks for the positive comment. And yes, Lena Gemzoe is a big influence for me. You should also check out the work
      of Kanta Harusaki. Awesome watercolour artist! TH-cam is full of great influence's. The technique of elevating the paper to allow the watercolour pigment and water to do there thing is very rewarding to watch. I've tried this technique in the past with disastrous results. I have learnt, less is more in this medium. Hope you enjoy following along as I evolve my art. You never know where the journey will end up👍

      @@look4light - Thank you so much for pointing me in the direction of Kanta Harusaki. I've been binge-watching all of his posts on TH-cam and you're absolutely right to apply that (hallowed) word "awesome" in relation to this artist and his art. Several of his pieces even brought tears to my eyes. And it wasn't just the astonishing end results that affected me so but simply witnessing his sheer mastery of his chosen medium as well. It's like he's wrangling water, pigment and paper to produce effects I never thought possible with watercolour. Awesome... By the way, are your pieces available to buy somewhere online?

    Lovely. Any particular reason why you use card rather than a flat brush to apply the paint?

    • @look4light
      @look4light  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michele, I experiment with many different items to apply paint. Most of the time, if not a brush. I will use a palette knife. With this painting I wanted to try a different applicator. The cardboard was close at hand. In the past I have used sticks and steelwool. Anything that will create an organic feel to the painting.
