A winter wonderland. It's no doubt a relief to get the chores completed and come back in to get warm---until you have to go back out to check on things.
There is always some nice and relaxing doing the chores that care for your livestock. Well at least to me anyhow.
I salute each and everyone who wears light and bright clothes ,also for visability in winter. Good on yer Shawn. I´m getting so fed up with peeps on streets that you can hardly see at this time of year

I truly enjoyed watching you on the canals with the narrowboat but I have to say I enjoy watching you live in Scotland and dealing with all the animals and everything I have to say I think I would watch you to no matter what you do but you just keep getting better and I'm looking forward to hearing about or seeing whatever you put out for your wedding it's nice to see two people who have been together for so long it makes me feel proud to see that and that we're not the only couple that's been around together for so long anyway thank you and we really enjoy watching you
So beautiful. The snowy Scotland of my childhood…….. you know the one… where I walked to school backwards, uphill in clogs 🤣🤣🤣. We live in a town (Northern California) with lots of trees and an owl has moved into a redwood across the street . Haven’t seen it yet but hear it a lot. Surprising really as it is 2 trees down from a pair of nesting falcons.
That snowy weather reminds me when we had the beast from the east back in 2018 the chickens and Sherlock looking well. Nice to see Otis and Ollie enjoying themselves in the snow stay safe and keep warm Colin and Shaun and hope you both have a lovely weekend.

Shaun, I love seeing/learning about your ‘girls’ - I’d love to have chickens but we have a small garden+dogs so I live my dream through you/your girls! Sherlock is so fascinating, and seeing the badgers and wildlife cams. And the bees/watching your first honey harvest has been amazing. Why not have a heated car seat cover and use that for keeping the water from freezing aldi was selling them for £7.00 you will need a 12v battery of course.

Back in the mid 80s I lived near Rutland in Leicestershire and the snowfall one winter was at least 4ft deep. I remember having to walk to the shops one day and suddenly disappearing into a snowdrift when I lost my footing. It took me a good 10 minutes or so to get my footing back so I could haul myself up again. It was the most fun I'd had since being a kid.. I couldn't stop laughing at myself!! I'm glad you are both enjoying the highland weather whilst keeping yourselves, your chickens, bees and Sherlock well cared for. Hope the wedding plans are coming along nicely too :)

The scenery looks so magical, covered in snow. It really is a beautiful place to live.
We use plugin water bowls in -20 F winter
We prefer to check on them regularly, so it’s no bother to take fresh water.

My grandma used to give chicken hot/warm water so it did not freeze so fast.

Bit random I know, but I'm sure I have seen somewhere that somebody somewhere who has animals or some such in cold climes, keeps feed and water in Crockpots?? powered from the mains so it doesn't freeze and keeps any food at a digestible temperature? Makes sense I suppose?
We’ve said a few times that we don’t have electricity on the coop or mews. Anyway, we want to check on them regularly during these conditions, so it’s not necessary 👍🏻

Colin, the dead bees, is it the cold or old age that kills the bees?
It could be either, but they don’t all survive through the winter x
If you have a power supply to the enclosures you could put a reptile electric heat pad under the water to prevent it freezing over (swell reptiles sell them - habistat heat mat they come in various sizes too 🤗 looks absolutely gorgeous where you are stay warm and cosy 🤗
We’ve said a few times that we don’t have power to the Mews, apiary and chickens.

It’s easier and cheaper for us to walk down and change it. It gives us chance to check on them too 👍🏻
