Saw Jackson in BHM,AL after his second album. He and David Lindley performed “Song for Adam” on his 2nd set. The auditorium was so quiet you could’ve heard a pin drop, during this song. WOW!!!
Jackson has so many great songs. But, this song is special. When I play it, I change the words in the last verse to say, I need to pray... Because I do....
I listen to this thinking about the version on Gregg Allman's last album. Gregg seemed to be referring to his brother Duane. Jackson sang on it. It is heartwrenching when Jackson sings. You hear the pain in his voice because he was loosing another friend he loved.

I could be mistaken but think Greg Allman recorded this on his final album SOUTHERN BLOOD. Be hard to choose between Jackson's or Greg's as to the better...both are excellent just a matter of choice. Lovely song, Jackson a great writer of songs.
You are right. Gregg Allman included this for his last album dueting with the great Jackson. Don Wuss produced it. And ADAM is a real person. Jackson's friend Adam Sailor who he brought to airport , Adam going to India

He was a poet from age 16 to 18 and part of the Symbolist Movement ( which became part of the surrealist movement ) along with well known artist Gustav Klimt ( The Kiss ) and many others. In the context of this song and the singer songwriter Jackson Browne I find it interesting that you bring up Rimbaud who was known as “ the boy genius”. As an aside, there was a movie about the younger years of Rimbaud’s life starring Leonardo Dicaprio entitled “Total Eclipse’” 1995. It entails the tumultuous relationship with his mentor and lover Verlaine. Verlaine went to prison for shooting and wounding him. In the film , his family burned all of his poems, but many survived in real life.
