Jackson Browne's best and most personal lyric. One of the best songs of all time, from the heartbeat pulse that goes throughout the song to the brilliance of the lyrics. Perfect. song, excellent reaction.
Dear Sarah: This song is so important to me!!! A good friend of mine gave me the Jackson Browne cassette tape with "A Shape of a Heart" on it over 30 years ago. Shortly after that this same friend committed suicide (essentially after a breakup with his girlfriend). This song always reminds me of that sad event. Years later I was at a Jackson Browne concert at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, and a friend, knowing I really wanted to hear that song, blurted out (as idiots do at concerts) "Play, '"In a Shape of a Heart"". And Jackson Browne replied: "I can do that!" And he did! I was embarrassed, but so happy at the same time. It was like JB was singing to me! I just saw Jackson Browne and James Taylor at the Norfolk Scope a year ago. He is just as good today as he was on the recording you have here. Thanks for sharing! (Not sure how I stumbled on this, but thank you for doing this! )
Rolling Stone magazine called it “one of Browne's finest love songs.” Browne, who tragically lost his first wife, Phyllis Major, to a drug overdose in 1976 at the age of 30, confirmed that “In the Shape of a Heart” is, indeed, a story about their tempestuous relationship.
A friend who I worked with went to a Jackson Browne concert and got there early, while sitting in her seat she saw Jackson on stage adjusting some equipment and approached the stage and asked him for a autograph, he was very gracious and gave her one...
A beautiful song that always brings back to me bittersweet memories of "The Girl from Yesterday" who I had given a gift necklace that had a pendant in The Shape of a Heart .
That is the great Russ Kunkel on drums. I don't think David Lindley was there Sarah. But you nailed the T shirt. I love how your knowledge and recognition of so many artists has grown so much, Fun to watch.
No, no David Lindley. The lead guitar player is Val McCallum (son of David McCallum...long time actor) who still plays with Jackson on records as well as tours. Val was his lead guitarist when I saw Jackson in 2012. On keyboards it looked like Scott Thurston, long time member of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. JB always has outstanding musicians in his band whether it's in the studio or his touring band

I thought it was Daryl Hannah?
@@Ou81gi812 no. the Im alive album is predominantly about his relationship with Hannah.

Amazing method to clear and to get the meaning
My favorite song that he does it's pretty intense but I still like the way he put everything together it's a beautiful tune

If you can't relate to this song, you've never loved and lost.
Try to listen to Jann Arden "I Would Die For You" she has a great voice and was popular in the 90's
❤
Just a guy who wrote really great songs who never got caught up in the tinsel town bulsht!
This is after his wife's suicide. Expressing regret. ❤
You seemed to miss the meaning in the lyrics…
I am so ashamed i watched this. Such a frivolous reaction.
Love this song. This version is my least favorite arrangement.
