I'm amazed at the overall quality of classic vibe guitars. They are a great value and don't break the bank. I have 3 teles and 2 strats of various models and haven't had a problem with any. Always get a good setup as with any guitar.

Joseph Heikes when you think you can buy three guitars , a classic vibe Jaguar, Stratocaster and Telecaster for the same price as one American performer strat. I have the performer strat and would rather have 3 classic vibes absolutely no question

Landon, thank you for making this video.
One thing I remember from walking through forests over the years is that poplar trees tend to grow really straight, and they grow tall, though "tall" is relative, I know.
So it makes sense that poplar would be considered for use in guitar manufacture.
Looks and sounds like Squier hit it out of the park, once again, on this release.

Squire has hit a home run with their Classic vibe series . I am usually not a Squier fan , but I had a Made in Korea , pro-tone Squier Strat years ago that was very good ! I had a 2010 Classic Vibe Tele Custom that was super good ! Unfortunately I own neither one at present . I bought the Strat used at a super price , but lost it in a trade for an American Strat . A couple years ago I traded the Tele away because the neck was too thin for me . Of course , in retrospect I wish I would have kept the guitar and installed a heftier neck . Build quality was excellent , and I had a 4-way pickup switch and brass barrel saddles on mine . They are easy to mod ,and just great quality !

    • @yargnad
      @yargnad 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I still have a 97 Pro Tone Fat Strat. Its the single best guitar Squier has ever been allowed to produce. They outspec'd MIMs so Fender felt it best to keep Squier as a budget brand and cancelled them after just three years.

Have one of these with the burst finish. Nice easy guitar to play. Has a well dressed neck out of the box. Yep, I'm on the tropic of Capricorn and all I had to do to mine was give it a tune and start playing. Keeps tune very well even in the Aussie Southern tropics. A little disappointed with the neck pickup being slightly dull yet it is still perfectly usable. Very good value for money.

i like it a lot. many of us find the traditional neck pickup on a tele to be useless, so the humbucker is a welcome edition, even if you are only using it to get the bridge to sound less tinny

Hey Lando, i've thought about my replies with you and have failed miserably to mention my favorite guitar in the last 40 years. It's a Peavey 15 with Peavey Super Ferrite pickups. If there was a super tele, this is it. They are built with the best hardware and electronics available in the US. Full size Switch Craft pots and toggle, metal knobs, heavey steel bridge, alder body, maple neck, Kluson Deluxe Vintage tuners and micro tilt neck. An indestructable guitar with pure tone.... I added a Super Ferrite middle pickup with a micro slide switch for those in between strat sounds. I used to gig with it (tons) but decided to only record to save the thing since they aren't made now. The price for these and other "T" series guitars are jumping up every day. My favorite builder (except maybe Leo) is Hartley Peavey. He was trying to outgun Fender, Gibson and others. Tough to beat tradition. In doing so, he made some of the best instruments for an average amount of funds ever, I think. Maybe you've run on to them???? If not, see if you can grab one and let me know what you think. Oh, forgot, the t15 has stainless steel frets! That tells me the intention to make a top end guitar....

Very good review! The good audio and picture quality along with good editing and production make your videos stand above many others. I have always wanted a Tele Custom. You seldom see them is probably why I never bought one. This Classic Vibe version looks like a decent guitar. I think Fender hit a home run with the Classic Vibe series guitars. They are a close replication of the older guitars we all would like to own. I've played the CV Tele and Strat and was impressed with their looks, sound and playability. And all at a fair price!

As a lefty with no more space at home for guitars I dont know anymore whether to be upset at how few models Squier make for lefties because I would buy nearly any CV they make. Very happy with the CVs I own. Got the jazzmaster, it did have some issues (damaged tuners, slightly damaged fretboard, finish flaws) but these were sorted by luthier. Great guitar once it was setup and the QA stuff sorted.

Just picked up one of these today, based on this and a few other reviews. It suits my modest playing ability well... can't justify spending more than 2x for a Vintera and 4x for an American Original. A couple of burred fret ends, but nothing serious, and the action is a bit high out of the box. Long & McQuade provides a free set up within the first year, so I'll mess with it a bit, and then probably bring it in for a little fiddling about later. Love the sound palette out of this unit... the standard's too twangy and the deluxe too humbuck-y for my taste, so this falls nicely in the middle. Thanks for this and your other reviews... always informative.

I literally bought a used one of these yesterday! I found it at McKay's (a used books and such store) and the guy behind the counter suggested this one over the others based on my budget. Only thing I need are an amp, cord, pick, case, and strap. As you may have guessed now, I am new to this. I'm not sure which year mine is, and aside from needing a new pickup switch toggle nob, I am happy to hear I chose a good guitar considering I know nothing.

Very nice guitar Landon. Good to hear it came set up & playable, that should be the norm imo. The finish on the neck looks gorgeous and it certainly sounds great. Interesting they say it's a bone nut, saw some specs in England ,said it's "synthetic bone" ,which I guess is plastic lol ! As long as it's cut properly ,I don't think it makes much difference, as you don't hear of folk complaining about the plastic nut on their vintage 'burst Les Pauls ... Compared to the original guitars , you will notice on a regular Tele & variants , the upper body bout meets the neck at the 17th fret ,but on all Teles from around '72 - '81 , it meets at the 16th. They only discovered this while doing R&D for the '52 reissue ! CBS had introduced CNC machining but didn't adjust the size of the cutter to the program. Cheers, great review 👍

    HACK TIP:
All you have to do to get rid of the gloss neck is take some steel wool and go over it. It takes away all the shine and turns it into a satin neck. Doesn't hurt the guitar at all.

The stock Pickups sound great on that guitar. The lead pickup is built to spec as my real 1968 Fender rear Tele pickup, actually yours sound better, so much for the vintage hype. USA Fender Strats and Teles did come with poplar bodies in a good part of the 1990s.
Next buy should be the Squier Classic Vibe 69 Telecaster Thinline. I don't see much different in that guitar than an actual 1969 Fender Telecaster Thinline in looks or construction wise.

I admit that I used to trash Squiers as being "cheap junk", but NO MORE!!! In fact, I now own 4 of them - J Mascis Jazzmaster, CV Starcaster, CV Jaguar, and CV 40th. anniversary Strat. I'm interested in the CV Thinline Tele, so we'll see...

    Great video Landon!
Shit load of bang for the buck right?
I always use the gritty side of a scotch brite pad and go up and down the back of the neck (cupping it) 10-15 times, gets rid of a layer or so of the glossy (and sticky lacquer) and gets it more satin and better to play.
    Great video bud!

I bought one of those in 1998 in Calgary, it was my first electric guitar and I had no idea what I had!...wound up letting it go for nothing to a freaking pawnshop and then later in life discovering what a treasure I had and it just kills me whenever I see one or even hear about it in comments....it'll always be "the one that got away "...

Landon, great comprehensive video. In your final thoughts, I would appreciate some words on how you found the sound of the pickups. Listening off the 'Tube is not ideal. Since you are playing in the same space, with the same amp, and have all those other Tele's to compare to some personal opinions on the sound of the axe relative to others would really be helpful. Thanks.

    • @landonbailey
      @landonbailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

hey thanks! ya that's the thing with hearing a recording VS hearing it in the room. I really like the pickups. I think the neck is a bit louder though, so I've tried raising the height of the bridge pickup. overall though I really like them.
hope that helps. I'm sure I'll have the guitar in future comparison videos

Hey Landon. Chris from Australia here. Love your vids mate. I have a Squier CV custom 60's Sunburst and love it. I want a butterscotch too. Should I go for CV 50's butterscotch or a Player butterscotch?

    • @landonbailey

hey there! are you able to try them in hand at a shop? I would take the Player over the CV because I prefer the satin neck. but both are awesome. oh also check out my 3way Butterscotch comparison video

@@landonbailey Thx mate. Yeah I have seen that vid. I think I should aim for at least a Fender for my next guitar. As always I appreciate your advice. PS I have an AC15 also and just bought a Vox VT40x. Best of both worlds. Awesome to be able to talk with someone I watch out for all the time. Cheers mate.

It looks and sounds awesome. I just wonder: will the chrome bits rapidly start to corrode like other recent CVs seem to? I’ve noticed this as a disturbing trend on the secondhand market: all the CVs of about 1-2 years of age show smoky surfaces, pitting and crusty green edges on the chrome bridge plate, knobs etc. Reading many forums, I found my impressions were supported by widespread owner reports. It led me to cancel my order of a 50s CV Tele last year. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the new manufacturer in Indonesia using a cheaper nickel plating rather than chrome.

Lando27Music Cheers - let me know if you ever find out. Last year I advance-ordered a 50s CV after doing a lot of research and thinking that it was an excellent buy. Then I saw a bunch for sale on our Australian version of Craigslist - “ Gumtree”. The pictures were all a bit blurry but the guitars looked excellent and were near-new (advertised as impulse buys, barely used, etc.). The prices were obviously at a much cheaper price than brand new, so I checked them out. In each case I found cloudy chrome and green crumbly areas. Now, I do live in a coastal city but this seemed way too much. I did an online search and found a number of forums like this: www.tdpri.com/threads/hardware-polishing-and-maintenance-on-a-classic-vibe-tele.749577/. I reluctantly canceled my order after that. Love your channel btw - keep up the awesome work.

I have this guitar but in sunburst and it's my go to guitar. I also have that guitar strap. Lol. I did however take the gloss off the neck. I found that to be a bit sticky for my taste. Definitely punches above its weight class.

There is only one bad thing about poplar, it's soft and if you accidentally drop or hit it off something solid it's likely a big dent and a very big chunk of paint will fall off.

Hi Landon, great video. Did you have any problems with the three saddle bridge? I saw on a different video sometimes the guys change it out for a brass bridge. Or does the stock one work pretty well as far as intonation? Thanks Landon.
