Good guide. Some of the ES1 models dont have screws but have the keyboard held in by about 30 plastic fixings of two different sizes that need to be cut out or melted. Then you need to fix the keyboard back in to the frame. I cut the fixings and used hot melt glue on each tab and the job took me 2 hours. I think melting and re-melting might be faster.
I wonder if acer could make something as simple as changing a keyboard more difficult. Seriously, 3 ribbons cables i need to unlatch and remove the damn power button... did there need to be so much sticky tape?
Happened to me today. New keyboard. Install was ok. guessing it got corrupted with the Win10 install but could not make keyboard work from that feedback either. Seems like it is a conflict with Acer products.
The backlight on my keyboard keeps going on and off when i put little pressure near the right of side keyboard. When the light is on, it is very dim. How can i fix this? Can someone please help? Does anybody know where the backlight wiring is exactly? Im thinking the connection is loose or jammed up, maybe??
I think I damaged the zif cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard on my e5 series acer aspire. Do you (or anyone reading this) happen to know if you can replace just the zif cable? And if yes, what kind of zif cable would I have to buy? Thanks!
Just a heads up, but a lot of the time you can buy the whole top plate there with the keyboard, mouse touchpad and everything for like 35ish dollars on ebay. A lot of them ship from Poland and so it takes a while to arrive but it saves you from having to do most of what he did in the video there. Basically just detach the ribbon cables and lift the whole thing off of there, take the new one and attach the cables, screw it back down from the bottom.
Taking apart the keyboard on one of these is a nightmare! Why did they have to use plastic clips that you have to break in order to remove the metal bracket that holds in the keyboard? Now the new one will flex quite when typing. Also worked on a cheap Asus laptop that had the same problem. I had 2 cuts on my fingers just from removing those pesky little things.
You don't have to break them, just push them in an out of the way - the are just designed for easy keyboard removal that way. 20 seconds, no screws, no damage at all
My 2010 Acer 5820TG's keyboard can be replaced in 45 seconds. Just push 6 little parts back, and you can remove the keyboard. And look at this goddamn laptop. You have to tear the whole thing apart.
Hagios Wilson If all you have done is disassembled what was a working machine then it is probably the keyboard ribbon connector not properly connected in. Having said that, I took mine apart to replace the keyboard that had intermittent "1" and "a" key. If just 'pressing harder' makes it work then it is probably a faulty keyboard.
Awesome video, really usefull now my keyboard stopped working xD But your warning, for examples at 15:17 are being blocked by other text, can you add notation in youtube video to say what is there? :P Super channel :D

Do you know - or anyone - if there is a backlit keyboard I can buy for the Acer Aspire E15 and if so, is it possible to replace the non-lit keyboard in my E15 with the new backlit E15 keyboard?
I will melt the plastic stoppers with a welling iron and lift the aluminium cover below the keyboard off. Then lay down the new one, and seal it with two-component epoxy glue, which dries up in two days, to form the new plastic stoppers. Mixing up the epoxy and sucking it up into a injection 5-10 ml pump and then adding it gently, and after then, letting it dry up without moving the keyboard chassis again for 48 hours. Like in teeth, plastic is easy to melt but to form it can be done with industrial here epoxy plastic/glue. It can be repeated? (Acer e1-311)
hey. i changed the keyboard like you. everything was fine. i booted the laptop and everything worked. then i switched it off. when i try to switch it on again it boots for 2-5 seconds, then it switches off and on 2-5 seconds again till i pull the plug. does anyone have a clue for this problem?
Before watching this video: my ESC button isn't working. I'll need to install a new keyboard. Let me check this tutorial. After watching this video: I can live without ESC button.
Hello j500j500, am a big fan of your work , i really please and wait that you would replace the keyboard of Samsung Ativa note book2 please make my dream come true .
Definitely wrong way to change keyboard. You can do it easily without the slightest effort by pushing the six movable clips out of the way (1 mm) at the upper edge of the keyboard holding it in while lifting the keyboard slightly up and out at last. 20 seconds - thats all. Back in just just push down on the upper edge - it will snap in at once. 5 seconds. 1 minute in total and no screws at all! It's designed like that for easy exchange by acer. Thank me later...
Did you got yours fix? I recently found mine Acer laptop keyboard stopped working and it is driving me nuts afraid to see what I would have to go through to may fix the problem, I hope not! I use a USB keyboard and it works. So I'm not sure I am ready to give up on the laptop keyboard just yet.
I have an Acer Aspire E5-573...just 573, nothing else, no "g" etc. Come to find out, after ordering one from Amazon, watching tutorials, like this one (although not this particular one) come to find out MY keyboard is freaking PLASTIC RIVETED IN AND CAN'T BE REPLACED!!!!!! I'm so missed right now. Thank you for the video, but please for the love of God put that info in the description. Please.

I wish mine had been this easy ! The keyboard was held on by 20+ plastic rivets that I had to take the heads off. THEN I had to plastic wend new heads onto them to hold it in place :-o CRAZY - NEVER buy Acer again !!!!!!

Try macbook keyboard, around 80 little screws just for keyboard.
Specifically made to be harder to repair.
This is a fantastic tutorial, but I'm not confident enough to do it without breaking it.
All I want is to clean mine.

Lol no kidding! I broke an egg over a friend's keyboard :(
I pour a glass of water on my keyboard
Accidentally Spilled milk over my acer.. shittt
Great video!
Unfortunately the 2016/2017 models have plastic clamps instead of screws. Awful ...
So removing the plastic clamps is permanent? Can you please explain further?
There’s probably a 95% chance that when you replace your keyboard on your laptop, it will not work.
Happened to me today. New keyboard. Install was ok. guessing it got corrupted with the Win10 install but could not make keyboard work from that feedback either. Seems like it is a conflict with Acer products.
I changed mine this morning without any issue, it works, so I'm part of the happy 5%
first and last time I'll ever buy an Acer laptop. Things been nothing but a pain in the ass.
Really? Is it a notebook or a safe box? Did acer really need this whole protection inside a notebook?
At least now i know where to hide my weed when i take a plane

Worked for me, although I was hesitant at first. Don’t use too much force, keep it smooth!
Did you go through it all than what you see on here?
Would be better if there was monologue to explain how to keep screw organized for reassembly or are all screws exactly same?
I think I damaged the zif cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard on my e5 series acer aspire. Do you (or anyone reading this) happen to know if you can replace just the zif cable? And if yes, what kind of zif cable would I have to buy?

Why are the screws on the keyboard white and doesn't have the plus sign hole? How do you remove those?
