- In this video I give you my honest opinion on if the Riley defense RAK-47 is garbage and why they have such a crappy name and reputation.
The sort and sweet version of this Video is that Riley Defense Is an American Gun Manufacture and used early on used inferior cast metal parts (As do alot of US AK makers) and they were complete poop. Eventually they ceased production of their gen 1 AK and switched to a gen 2. The Gen 2 is a lot better and includes key forged metal parts. This gun NOW offers alot of bang for the buck and in my OPINION is a great entry level AK.

I have a riley about 10 feet away from me. I've ran hundreds of rounds through it without cleaning it and it still runs as if brand new. Very reliable, my bushmaster Jams more than my ak, I dont think the ak has ever malfunctioned

@@badomen781 I bought those original Romanian wood furniture the OP listed. Little bit of dremeling and sanding, staining and 4 coats of matte poly. A thing to behold Bad Omen.
I sanded down the sharp edges on the Tapco hammer it came with to prevent the bolt tail from damage. Mine has a few minor issues ..front sight block pins falling out & loose furniture but its a accurate ak & reliable. Really like the wood furniture on yours. Looks badass! Thanks for the funny vid.👍
I have a Riley Defense Classic Laminate 2018 build, it looks pretty and it goes bang but I consider it a working replica because the front sight block is angled forward and there is daylight at the base of the muzzle brake. I prefer my 2018 WASR too it.
Where can I get that Hand grip ?
I bought this same model just a few days ago. I was very excited about it. The finish is nice. Solid rifle. But out of the box, it did not work. I shipped it back to Riley a couple a days later. In transit to their facility as I type. There were several issues with this rifle. Brand new. Out of the box. Which is what bummed me out. Couldnt get past 20 rounds when I gave up. Again. Brand new. Riley has been on top of things and in contact with me. Even got a phone call from a rep at Rileys who assured me they would send back a fully functioning rifle. They said they would even include a muzzle brake upgrade, cleaning kit and extra mags for the troubles I went thru. Seems like they are really pushing customer satisfaction. Issues found on rifle: Bad extractor. Bad bolt and magazine well tolerance too tight for any mag other than a Pmag. Cant stress enough that this is a brand new 2020 production rifle. Now its just a waiting game to see if they come thru or I have a $695 paper weight. Definitely not happy. My advise to all, skip this rifle save up a little more and get yourself a PSA or an Arsenal. Yes this RD comes with Forged parts but whats the use when rifle doesnt work?
Sorry to here about the issues you have had, quality control seems to be very poor for functionality. Fortunately I haven't had that many issues with mine. I did end up sending it in for repairs though. What happen was the tail peening was getting to be really bad on it. (Some peening is normal but not as much as I had) I believe it was due to the tapco hammer being a much harder steel then the carrier housing. Even though I bought mine used they let me send it in for free and they fixed the tapco hammer and replaced the bolt carrier. Now I have about 500 rounds through the repaired rifle with no issues thus far. Hopefully it continues because now it feels like a quality rifle. I agree that they have been trying to make it right which is great custom service but it would be nice if they would get it right the first time.

SqueakyChairProductions I’ve seen I.O’s run smoothly. No malfunctions. Beat up and not even well taken care of and still work. Gonna have to ask my friend if I can shoot his... got some ammo but no AK.
Sounds like extremely bad luck my RAK47 is running smooth right out the box. Used 4 different mags and I’ve been through a few hundred rounds with no issues. No cant in the iron sight and I’m extremely happy so far.

just got one. gen 2 I think. put 300 rounds through it. towards the end jam, ftf, fte, and mags didn't want to lock in. took home cleaned up. seems to run, will find out next range trip. mags lock in so Idk heat from gun or 🤔 odd.
up to almost 1k rounds, very few problems

@@briandavenport8971 no, only problem that was warranted was bullet guide rivet came loose. Which allowed guide to shimmy a lil. Still zero malfunctions as far as operation goes. So far 1500 rounds through already both hp and full metal.

Mine jammed a lot and I took sand paper to her. And a file and she runs great now

Do you have any issue with the front sight it moving left to right. It suppose to be solid unless you have a tool to move it where you want to.

I do not believe they have been recalled. As per telling between the 2 take a look just below the feed ramp. First gen with be one cast piece. On the second you will see a circle or rivet on the bottom or the feed ramp.
