A few people already made me aware that the angles aren't correct. 30° angle is actually a 150° angle, 50° angle is actually a 130° angle and 70° angle is actually 110°. Thanks for the hint, obviously I was a little negligent when I was making the graphics. Sorry for that mistake guys :)
Nice video! 30, 50 and 70 are common angles even if it doesn't match with your picture. But I've got another question: are you sure that the last angle was 70 degrees? As for me it looked like approximately 60 degrees. this 10 degrees have very much impact on the tangent line and on the amount of spin induced throw you create (much less with 70 degress).
It's because the real angle is diffrent when u look at it with ur eyes without any measuring equipment the close the balls the more difficult it is to Guage the aim especially back cuts lol
I was about to make my own comment on the angles but since you've already made the correction, all I can say now is thank you so much for yet another informative video that will certainly improve my game. Thanks again and looking forward to the next one.
The carefully crafted graphics you’ve put together to support your (clear) descriptions of all the variations available for a single shot are the best I’ve seen. Others in the series are excellent as well.
The combination of the illustrations and playback, especially the fact that you show the cue ball and the contact points are excellent. This is the way I learn, not just from being told, but from having a clear picture in my mind from all aspects. Thanks so much.. !!
I agree with the comments by others that your use of graphics was extremely helpful. Another popular pool tutorial site relies on just a lot of talking with poor camera angles and minimal use of any supporting graphics. As a result, learning from that site is inhibited. While you’re running monologue was extensive, it was also directed to the point being made without a lot of excess banter, Again unlike the other site I’ve mentioned. Keep up the good work.
The best theoretical analysis of one of the most common positioning shots. Really takes some deep understanding as well as hands-on practice for you to make such clear illustrations. Please keep it up, Sharivari!
Sharivari ... Mate every time I watch one of your videos I learn stuff that I haven't even thought of. The thing I like the most about you my friend and your videos are, that you speak in layman's terms it's just so easy to understand the complexity of the subject that you are discussing. I tip my hat to you Sharivari you do an amazing job keep up the great work and I know your doing something right as it is 4 years later and you are still producing videos cheers Brenden Your Aussie Fan.
This like many other videos I've seen from Sharivari is top notch pocket billiard instruction. Not only is everything he covers in this video true, but also the video production shows where to hit the cue ball based on it's location in relation to the object ball and we can see the cue ball move and as it moves we can see how the side spin changes. Simply put, this is a damn good video for those who are interested in improving.
This is gold! I play a lot of 8 ball, and any time I can use less speed and have more control helps. This channel has quickly become my favorite source of instruction. Thank you. And this was not too much info. Best video yet! Thanks again
It's funny that years ago i struggled with this exact shot.. weather to use low right or just right on that shot. Couldn't find the answer anywhere and had to figure it out myself. You up and comers have a big advantage these days with TH-cam, you can take years off your game by watching videos instead of just figuring it out, or being lucky enough to have someone who would share that info with you. Back in the day, top players kept that kinda thing secret lol. Thank this man for helping you, this is the kinda information that will really help your game. In the end it's so much easier to just use left or right rather than using draw, you can hit the ball slower which improves the likelyhood of making the ball.
I have to say this is the best pool training video ever man. Explains absolutely everything about the shot the easy way and lot of people can actually understand the physics behind it. Great job on these videos man and great graphics too. Keep it up
While all of your videos are exceptional, I believe this one and your Cue ball Physics/Learn to control the Cue ball are very important for those that truly want to improve their game by understanding why and how the cue ball ends up where it does. Great work! Thank you!
Thanks so much! Been playing for 40 years and it just changed my game too. That side pocket has always been my nemesis. Your explanation makes perfect sense. Well done! Some other players are now in big trouble!
Excellent stuff as always The 9 being off the rail allows the cue ball spin to take. If the 9 was frozen or just a hair off the rail, it changes the shot. Also you can overhit the ball no matter how much spin you put on it which will prevent the cue ball English to perform like you want it to. Speed is huge on these shots.
I've always thought i had to put bottom right spin on cue ball to bring down the table and hit with pace,, but this video clearly shows I've played the shot wrong for many years. Thank you for showing the correct way to play this shot 👍
I appreciate the great video. Your explanations are clear and concise and your synopsis at the end did a lot to stop me from feeling overwhelmed with information. You're a great teacher and your videos have done a lot to help me learn and fall in love with the sport!
Good insights. With this common shot, I think most pool players go through the struggle of deciding how much low vs how much right. I always judge it by feel, so it’s good to see how others approach this.
Your videos are very easy to understand and are helping me become a better pool player keep up the good work and your English is getting better every video, PEACE
This REALLY connected allot of dots. Great description, without confusing amateur folks like me. Thanks for sharing. Btw, your technical angles were correct from the view side anyway. Don't care about angle degree "numbers" anyway. I'd rather play the table (diamond/pockets) INSTEAD of doing math. GREAT POST!!!
These are such excellent training videos! Between Sharivari and Barry Stark, they can turn a person into a polished pool player... with some snooker thrown in to boot!
What a great video! I am an intermediate player and this concept has always confused me. You have explained it perfectly. Thanks so much. The one element to this that you could have added is the distance of the object ball from the rail. The closer it is to the rail, the less influence any draw on the cue ball will have.
Thanks. Even not describing throw. It finally makes sense to me what is happening to the object ball when struck with english. Time to go to the pool table and practice. Thanks again. .
Very good presentation. I really like the way you break down the components , and explain and illustrate the process you are speaking of . Thank you much .
Excellent video - I had a feeling high/low were less consistent than regular left/right but did not "realize" fully until this video. Also, the more severe the cut, the less the left/right will throw the object ball. This is a must-practice drill. Thanks for doing this video.
I was told that this shot is actually a stop or stun shot with spin. If you shoot it with this in mind it's easier to see the tangent line vs a draw off of the object ball. Great video! Now back to the pool table. :)
I really enjoy your videos and breakdowns. You have helped my game tremendously. Thank You for taking the time you do to explain the details on many levels. keep up the great work man!
Thank you for all your help u truly help me learn more about different aspects of pool n thanks for the demonstration n the angles just everything you do thank you
Thank You ! This is a great video and explanation! I love how you take the time to explain what is simple to the experts but not to beginners, Easy to understand ! I highly appreciate all the time you out into your videos!!
Great video! I love your detailed approach in explaining the variables of this shot. It makes it that much easier to understand. Now there's just executing this on the pool table, I only wish that was as easy, lol. Ty!!!
I was a little confused in this lesson maybe because I’m watching this before bed, so I’m tired.. I need to see more of this maybe I’ll understand better. Great lesson as usual Sharivari!
Wow, incredible video. I love the detail you go into explaining this concept, and the visuals you use are invaluable to the teaching process. Not all pool videos show you exactly where you need to place the cue on the white ball when shooting, or explain how the change in english effects the path of the cue ball as well as the object ball, so thank you for explaining it so well. Yes, please make another video going into more detail about spin and throw. You can never go into too much detail in a video or make too many videos on this subject. That just gives me a reason to watch it again and again, LOL 😂. Also, a video on more banking techniques and how throw/spin will effect your banking or kicking at balls would be GREAT! I'd love to hear you to make a video just explaining more about exactly how the balls act like gears. That if one ball spins one way the other will spin the opposite direction. Also how the spin on the balls react when hitting a rail. Plus I rarely hear anyone talk about how chalk, dirt, oil, or water effect the balls, table, etc... Could you please make a video going into these things in detail (the way you always do😁) Thanks! Dee😊👍
Really enjoyed your video, very well explained and demonstrated. For me the biggest problem with using so much side would be the uncertainty of how much the path of the cue ball will be distorted by the side and feeling confident of consistently making the pot. For this reason I would normally prefer bottom with a dab of right, when possible. But I will be practising your shot first chance I get.
Great video, thank you so much. I'm just getting started with left and right. Would be great if you did a beginners guide on how to apply spin - my biggest issue is lining up accurately. Seems I'm usually guessing, so would like to know your technique for setting up a successful spin shot.
With such a talent for explaining stuff, I'd love to see videos about CIT and SIT. Especially when you get most CIT/SIT and why. Dr Dave has the videos already but I think you could be able to add a new quality to these topics.
Thank you. I am already planning the video about CIT / SIT in my head, but this will take some time till its finished, because the animations and visuals will require muuuch time -thus the video will be better.
Great video! Something most pool instructors don't touch on.Can u please make a video on side pocket position shots.Example getting position from the 9 to 10 using various English and tip positions.Thank you!
I always seem to have less control when using bottom right to bring the ball back up table. I have used Side spin to get throw on the ball but never really thought about using it to have better control for position. Thanks again!
Thank you! Try to follow through the cueball. Maybe you're not hitting center and maximum english because you fear a miscue? If you use the Jim Rempe training ball you can check that. Maybe the rails on your table are new and slippery so that the english doesn't grap?
Sharivari maybe I need more English. I tried hitting it soft like you said, but it seems to be closing the angel rather than sending the cueball above the sidepocket.
@@raymondphillips7107 Loosen your grip. Your cue should just sit in your hand. Little to no pressure on the butt of your cue. If you put 2 tips of right on this shot you should make it down there no problem. And as sharivari said, make sure to follow through.

I'm guilty. I constantly use low. even when I need a maximum amount of spin. The simple explanation of way more spin, the higher you go on the ball, probably is going to help my game. Thank you.
