@@aaronp9835 Definately the best HC start gloves since 2000. We used to have those back then on a mule and whenever making a new character we gave Bloodfists at level 1 (no level requrements on uniques back then).. Pretty awesome boost to HP at the beginning.
Appreciate all the content. I got back into d2r when it dropped for my switch hadn’t played d2 in over a decade and I never got into high tier stuff. When I was a teenager I ended up just starting new characters a lot and barely beat the whole game. Now I’m older it’s nice to have someone give the top tier guides and advice
A non-obvious "caster" weapon are claws for blade fury assassins. Blade fury is a spell and does not eat durability but you want +damage instead of +skills on your weapon for it.
in LOD usually the best weapon is eth death berserker axe, theres tons of info on it, not sure if its changed in d2R but the lod info has been around for you know like 20 years give or take
Charsi imbue quest also keeps the ethereal property so normal ethereal crystal/dimensional swords can be turned into a rare and then upped to a phase blade ethereal throwing weapons can also gain replenishing quantity from her

Some days ago I found an Ethereal Ali Baba ... and I didn't know what to do with it ... all the specs are the same but as you mention it ... requirements are lowered so now I don't need too much dexterity and that's a lot of value for me (I was using charms to add additional dexterity points) ... and durability is not affected if both clicks (left and right) are configured as spell ... also it looks really really cool !!!
With the inability to bind "move-only" in D2R, will the random attacks going off from time to time be enough to destroy a caster eth weapon eventually ?
Just bind fireball or something to left click. Then you can do fireballs in between orb/blizzard/meteor real easy, and you don't have to worry about accidentally swinging an eth weapon.
Are you sure about when the quantity hits 0 it will replenish? Im almost 1000% positive I screwed up my eth titans a long time ago (during LOD) . When was this changed ?
I remember as well. I zeroed out my perfect eth titans and even as replenish quantity worked, the item stayed unusable. I watch myself very carefully now when I am using eth titan. I did trade the borked titans to someone for a Mal or something because he thought he could “fix” it lol

I have a javazon with a nice stack of ethereal self replenishing javelins. Sure they be outleveled soon enough but for now they are a nice set of random rare javelins. Ethereal leveling gear are nice. By thd time they break they are obsolete anyway. An etheral weapon could be a switch in weapon for bossfights.
@@fairhall001eth Titans are only used because of the lower requirements, the DMG on a Java only comes from the skill. Thats why magic 40ias +6javelin are so high priced.
I missed one tiny detail, with the self repair / replenish, IIRC if it goes to 0 it stops repairing itself so it becomes junk. I haven't tried in some many years but that used to be the case. It may be kind of important for all those that pay a lot for their eth Titans perhaps?

How did you get a kraken shell with 1057 Def (at 6:40 )? I thought max def was 523 for non etheral so 523x1.5=784.5 for etheral (not supperior). What did I miss ? I though the Ethereal Cube bugg was fixed in D2R, wasn't it ?
Can you upgrade eth bases in the cube just like you would a regular base item (i.e. upgrading eth exceptional polearm to its eth elite version)? Also, once you upgrade items, can you then use the cube recipe to socket it?

Not how it work. Items with “replenishes quantity” can spawn normal and ethereal. Replenishes quantity is not the same thing as indestructible. The always eth / always not eth ONLY applies to uniques that spawn with the indestructible mod
My single player smiter back in PlugY d2 spent who knows how long searching for an eth-buggable Exile base. In the end I couldn't find a vortex and settled for a 43 all resist gilded shield I finally found after a literal week. That was probably the most stressful cubing of my D2 history lol. If anything, I'm glad eth-bugging is no longer a thing in D2R.
lvl 14? Don't you mean lvl 24? It's probably worth 35k gold. Could be ~18k. If it was rare it might have been worth something for pvp with good additional mods. I'd just keep it for quicker chaos runs or playthroughs. It's nice to have tele on something other than weapon swap and cold res is often a res that is lacking on starting chars so that's a nice bonus, but magic rings are not really tradable.
I still personally feel like defense being practically useless is a MAJOR flaw they should've fixed with D2R, but that would've changed the game way too much.....still stupid design to me, though. Same feeling towards the weight system. What's the point of all these armors if most are basically useless and/or just hinder you?

I found some ethereal 50 war Travs and I’ve been wearing them for days. They are 35/40 currently. I get it they will eventually break but they aren’t worthless because I’m getting great use out of them ;)

I have an unrelated question: I've only played a little D2R yet, but I have some "problems" with drops that I don't remember from back when I played D2. Namely, once when I killed Duriel, all he dropped was 5 scrolls of Town Portal. And sometimes when I kill Andariel (quest bugged), she doesn't drop a single item. Are these issues related to D2R, or are they old issues that I never experienced or don't remember?
Those are normal things that have always happened. It's random when that happens but it does. Duriel can be quest bugged online still though, by standing outside her chamber, where the staff is inserted, when someone else kills him. I forgot if someone has to be present who has the quest open. Anyway, quest bugged Duriel should never or more rarely screw you over with 5 tp's.
Are there ethereal weapons that you don't want for runewords, but would be awesome if it were rare with 450 % ed and selfrepair? So, kinda advanced question: Which eth weapon would you imbue and which roll sockets for runewords?
In case you may or may not have touched on this, because I was listening to this while doing other things, can ethereal items drop with sockets or do you have to cube ethereal items to roll sockets into them?
Correct. A unique with the 'Indestructible' mod will never have a chance to roll Ethereal. If you find one that is both Indestructible and Ethereal, it has both mods hardcoded (like Ghostflame). Note this is the same for normal items, namely Phase Blades (Elite Crystal Sword) - they are innately indestructible, and as such can not ever roll Ethereal. You can only get an Ethereal Phase Blade by upping an Ethereal Rare/Unique Crystal/Dimensional Blade into a Phase Blade.
Bows and crossbows cannot spawn ethereal ever. They use arrows and bolt & using them will reduce the quantity of said item. However the bows themselves will never be eth and will never break. Throwing weapons will absolutely lose quantity (durability) when used regardless if they are thrown or swung at enemies. Once ethereal ones reach 0 quantity, they cannot be used any more. The exception to this is if it spawns with “replenishes quantity”
I just realized yesterday that Blizz removed the ebug feature. What a shame. There are still a lot of annoying bugs yet they "fixed" something which was part of the game for a long time and made the end game loot hunting fun.
@@MarianoGianni1 If you used the cube recipe ( to add sockets to ethereal armour it would reroll the item and add the +50% ed again. So a perfect defence sacred armour 600 def would become 900 def when ethereal. If you were to ebug it it would get +50% again and become 1350 def. It also worked with helms and shields but they were never as popular.
It depends wether you wanna upgrade a normal, rare or unique item. U usually put the item with 2 specific runes and a specific perfect gem into cube to upgrade it. With this u can for example turn a ceremonial javelin base type into a matriarchal javelin base type which has higher base damage. The same works for armors which increases the defense. You can read it up in the d2 wiki

@@Wendigo1986 on p1 ber from cows is 1/720k. ber from storm casters is 1/356k, and 1/1000k from other monsters. Now think about the monster density of cow level vs chaos sanctuary. Cows is definitely better. Spectres in arcane also have that 1/356k drop rate, but their density is even lower than chaos sanctuary.
BTW, there's a rumor that the personalization reward by Anya can repair ethereal items. That's not the case anymore, but I think it was possible in 1.09 or 1.10. The ethereal base armors with 1000 defense in the video are imported from old D2, correct? I haven't tried it yet, but I heard the eth cube bug (which added the eth bonus on armors a second time) has been fixed in D2R.
Does an Eth weapon (50% extra damage from Eth) socketed with a Zod end up with the same damage as a non-Eth version of the same weapon socketed with an Ohm rune (+50% Enhanced Damage)?
Can unique items be found at different levels? Like a lvl 9 unique can i find the same thing at a level 70 or do they have a predetermined level for each? Sorry if that is confusing im not sure how to explain it.
The loot table for a monster includes all item levels up to and including its level. Farming in level 85 areas means every item in the game has a chance to drop.
@@garrettmckellar Im still not completely sure i get. Example: a Bonesnap. Just say its a level 10 item. Could i find a level 70 Bonesnap or would it always be level 10 item? I ask because in Diablo 3 i would find the same legendary with different levels on it.
@@m3anmug Item level is not what you think it is. Throw out WoW/D3 notions of item level. Item Level is not even exposed to the player in D2. All Bonesnaps will have (90-120) To (129-172) damage regardless of whether or not the item was ever internally "item level 70" in any sense. Every Bonesnap that drops has the same chance to be 120-172+300% or 90-129+200% or anywhere in between. Item level is completely irrelevant in terms of stats on uniques and set items. What item level is doing in these cases is guiding the loot table. The game knows its spawning a "level 70 item" and THEN decides its a maul, THEN decides it's unique/set and then finally asks "which unique/set mauls can I spawn at or below level 70." Bonesnap is the only item that matches so you get a Bonesnap with the same stat range as if it had spawned at item level 10. When item level is important is in crafting/socketing. For instance, the quest in Act V which sockets an item will take in to account the internal item level (for non unique items) when determining the number of sockets it can get, which is why Crystal Swords from Normal Cow level are guaranteed to never get more than 4 sockets. When you're crafting new amulets or rings, item levels are very important since that determines the final item. When you hear people talk about "rerolling" charms from Baal, that's because you know that charms from Baal will have the highest internal item level, meaning if you re-roll the stats, you're starting from best seed possible. *TLDR:* Item level is an *internal parameter* in Diablo 2 for a reason. Item level is NOT A RANK of the item you HAVE. It is an artifact of the item generation process, and is only relevant to the player if you are re-triggering the item generation process using crafting/quests.
No, repairs durability and replenishes quantity work differently than indestructible. Items like Titans revenge that has “replenishes quantity” mod can spawn ethereal and normal (the ethereal version being of significantly more value on the market)
What about eth Gimmershed? The only throwable that, in non-eth version, replenishes quantity. But the ethereal version does not. Does anyone know if this was intentional on the part of devs or is this a bug?

Its perfectly OK to have an eth Spirit shield. The higher def and lower str req is worth the limited use. What -- are you worried you're going to break a shield and lose your precious Tal, Thul, Ort and Amn rune? these are throw away items anyways. Get the benefits of an eth shield, who cares if it breaks.

Well you make it easy to believe that ZOD runes are dropping all over the place. I have never seen one outside of mods.
I had one drop in D2R and they arent expensive. You can get one for about a vex.
Eth rare phaseblade with gg rolls is one of the sweetest flexes you can do in the game, imo.

They'll be gone at rate around 1 durability per 25 attacks. Keep in mind there's a difference between random and by mistake.

A lot of rares can also be very valuable as ethereal, so long as they also have a repair mod on them.
God tier rares are the TRUE unique items in D2 after all. Thus they also have the potential to be actually worth putting in a Zod rune.

Quantity should still replenish as they did, items however that reach 0 durability WILL be broken.
That was a bug, it is now fixed. Eth throwing weapons will continue to replenish even after hitting 0 quantity

I’ll usually use the armors and when they get low I swap them to a merc on another toon.

Defense is more useful than most people think. Try playing a sorc with 600 vs 4k defence and you will for sure feel the difference

Ethereal Spirit Monarch used only for CTA buff can save you 10 Strength.

I've only played a little D2R yet, but I have some "problems" with drops that I don't remember from back when I played D2.
Namely, once when I killed Duriel, all he dropped was 5 scrolls of Town Portal. And sometimes when I kill Andariel (quest bugged), she doesn't drop a single item.
Are these issues related to D2R, or are they old issues that I never experienced or don't remember?
Those are normal things that have always happened. It's random when that happens but it does. Duriel can be quest bugged online still though, by standing outside her chamber, where the staff is inserted, when someone else kills him. I forgot if someone has to be present who has the quest open. Anyway, quest bugged Duriel should never or more rarely screw you over with 5 tp's.

Are there ethereal weapons that you don't want for runewords, but would be awesome if it were rare with 450 % ed and selfrepair? So, kinda advanced question: Which eth weapon would you imbue and which roll sockets for runewords?
Man Diablo 2 was way ahead of its time. There are so much depth in the itemization.

Correct. A unique with the 'Indestructible' mod will never have a chance to roll Ethereal. If you find one that is both Indestructible and Ethereal, it has both mods hardcoded (like Ghostflame).
Note this is the same for normal items, namely Phase Blades (Elite Crystal Sword) - they are innately indestructible, and as such can not ever roll Ethereal. You can only get an Ethereal Phase Blade by upping an Ethereal Rare/Unique Crystal/Dimensional Blade into a Phase Blade.

I get caster weapons but what about bows and xbows do they lose durability or throwing weapons?
Bows and crossbows cannot spawn ethereal ever. They use arrows and bolt & using them will reduce the quantity of said item. However the bows themselves will never be eth and will never break.
Throwing weapons will absolutely lose quantity (durability) when used regardless if they are thrown or swung at enemies. Once ethereal ones reach 0 quantity, they cannot be used any more. The exception to this is if it spawns with “replenishes quantity”
Hay llama as I remember there was this bug with cubing sockets onto ethereal items with the item receiving another boost in atk/def. still a thing?
Sadly, it was removed for unknown reasons. Accidentally is my guess.
I just realized yesterday that Blizz removed the ebug feature. What a shame. There are still a lot of annoying bugs yet they "fixed" something which was part of the game for a long time and made the end game loot hunting fun.

@@MarianoGianni1 If you used the cube recipe ( to add sockets to ethereal armour it would reroll the item and add the +50% ed again.
So a perfect defence sacred armour 600 def would become 900 def when ethereal. If you were to ebug it it would get +50% again and become 1350 def.
It also worked with helms and shields but they were never as popular.
You mentioned "upgrading items" a couple of times but how do I do that?
It depends wether you wanna upgrade a normal, rare or unique item.
U usually put the item with 2 specific runes and a specific perfect gem into cube to upgrade it.
With this u can for example turn a ceremonial javelin base type into a matriarchal javelin base type which has higher base damage.
The same works for armors which increases the defense.

@@Wendigo1986 on p1 ber from cows is 1/720k. ber from storm casters is 1/356k, and 1/1000k from other monsters. Now think about the monster density of cow level vs chaos sanctuary.
Cows is definitely better.
Spectres in arcane also have that 1/356k drop rate, but their density is even lower than chaos sanctuary.

BTW, there's a rumor that the personalization reward by Anya can repair ethereal items. That's not the case anymore, but I think it was possible in 1.09 or 1.10.
The ethereal base armors with 1000 defense in the video are imported from old D2, correct? I haven't tried it yet, but I heard the eth cube bug (which added the eth bonus on armors a second time) has been fixed in D2R.

Does an Eth weapon (50% extra damage from Eth) socketed with a Zod end up with the same damage as a non-Eth version of the same weapon socketed with an Ohm rune (+50% Enhanced Damage)?
Can unique items be found at different levels? Like a lvl 9 unique can i find the same thing at a level 70 or do they have a predetermined level for each?

The loot table for a monster includes all item levels up to and including its level. Farming in level 85 areas means every item in the game has a chance to drop.

Example: a Bonesnap. Just say its a level 10 item. Could i find a level 70 Bonesnap or would it always be level 10 item?
I ask because in Diablo 3 i would find the same legendary with different levels on it.
@@m3anmug Unique and set items will always have the same req. level, their item level, however can change.
@@m3anmug Item level is not what you think it is. Throw out WoW/D3 notions of item level. Item Level is not even exposed to the player in D2. All Bonesnaps will have (90-120) To (129-172) damage regardless of whether or not the item was ever internally "item level 70" in any sense. Every Bonesnap that drops has the same chance to be 120-172+300% or 90-129+200% or anywhere in between. Item level is completely irrelevant in terms of stats on uniques and set items. What item level is doing in these cases is guiding the loot table. The game knows its spawning a "level 70 item" and THEN decides its a maul, THEN decides it's unique/set and then finally asks "which unique/set mauls can I spawn at or below level 70." Bonesnap is the only item that matches so you get a Bonesnap with the same stat range as if it had spawned at item level 10.
When item level is important is in crafting/socketing. For instance, the quest in Act V which sockets an item will take in to account the internal item level (for non unique items) when determining the number of sockets it can get, which is why Crystal Swords from Normal Cow level are guaranteed to never get more than 4 sockets. When you're crafting new amulets or rings, item levels are very important since that determines the final item. When you hear people talk about "rerolling" charms from Baal, that's because you know that charms from Baal will have the highest internal item level, meaning if you re-roll the stats, you're starting from best seed possible.
*TLDR:* Item level is an *internal parameter* in Diablo 2 for a reason. Item level is NOT A RANK of the item you HAVE. It is an artifact of the item generation process, and is only relevant to the player if you are re-triggering the item generation process using crafting/quests.

No, repairs durability and replenishes quantity work differently than indestructible. Items like Titans revenge that has “replenishes quantity” mod can spawn ethereal and normal (the ethereal version being of significantly more value on the market)
What about eth Gimmershed? The only throwable that, in non-eth version, replenishes quantity. But the ethereal version does not. Does anyone know if this was intentional on the part of devs or is this a bug?
the steelrends example would be good for dueling. or hardcore dueling something like that, maybe not steelrends but the example of how to item is used and is not useless.

I see there is "Online" and "Offline" mode, do you need to be connected to internet to play "Offline" or is always on the server, which mean it's not actually "offline" ?
You just need to connect once if you want to play Offline (singleplayer) after you install the game.

Its perfectly OK to have an eth Spirit shield. The higher def and lower str req is worth the limited use. What -- are you worried you're going to break a shield and lose your precious Tal, Thul, Ort and Amn rune? these are throw away items anyways. Get the benefits of an eth shield, who cares if it breaks.

Does anyone know, if I have an Ethereal Hellspawn Skull with +3 Iron Golem and +2 Summon Resist, should I trash it, or could it be used with Splendor Runeword just to snapshot summon a stronger Iron Golem (+4 IG, +3 Summon Resist), then unequipped, before combat?

A +2 Eth Templars Might high roll is worth the Zod for zealot or the like.
