Come bouldering with me | putting my climbing technique to the test

  • In this video, we pay a visit to our new local bouldering wall, Volume 1. This place is fast becoming my favourite place to test my weaknesses, and in this video we climb a selection of rather technical and very fun boulder problems. I’ve been trying to focus on the things I’m not so confident with, so we’ve got a variety projects, including a dyno and some rather sketchy slabs.
    I really hope you enjoy!

    Hello ! Nice analysis and work for those boulders ^^ Dynos are a unique style in climbing. Most of the time, you will have to do the move by this way :
    1) pull on your arms to get close to the wall, not to go
    2) jump with your legs to go to the hold
    It is important to not do the 2 things at the exact same time, it is less efficient !
    Have a great day guys :)

      @hannahmorrisbouldering  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much! I definitely find I'm driving up through my legs a lot. Dyne's for me seem to be about timing and ensuring that I let momentum carry me upwards, not outwards!

  • @chaozzah
    @chaozzah 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The first problem really looks to me like you'd want to set that left foot down on the volume, and turn into a drop knee so you can grab the hold above the crescent with right and smoothly transition left. Should be a lot more comfortable than hugging the right crescent.
    Then again, it's impossible from video angles to judge, it always looks easy sitting behind a screen :) Just curious if you had given it a go.

    Point of reference, not a critique. It is my understanding that volumes are only "on" for a route if there is a hold of the corresponding color attached to the volume. Can any other climbers help clear this up? Are all volumes fair game?

    • @hannahmorrisbouldering
      @hannahmorrisbouldering  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point to raise! Volumes are in at Volume 1. They're added to change the dimensions of the wall and to open up new possibilities for different movement as far as I know. I'm told they are to be seen as extensions of the wall, so are always in unless marked otherwise but I'm thinking maybe in competition climbing the rules may be different?

  • @ondrejkrpes1283
    @ondrejkrpes1283 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you never properly top? I have never ever seen you top in proper way, not a single time in your videos, what is the reason? I guess there is no chance you don't know how to top, so I am just curious. It looks weird. You just tap it and done, but this is not the way.

    • @hannahmorrisbouldering
      @hannahmorrisbouldering  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s just an energy preservation thing, and the fact that I don’t feel like I have to outside of a competition environment! If I feel confident that I could match the top in control during a casual session, that’s enough for me. If I don’t feel like I could fairly confidently, I’ll make the extra effort to secure the climb!
