Your tips worked. Mine did after 2 days. Charged for almost 8 hrs. Then I left it alone for a day. Then followed your tips. After the 4th try, it opened automatically and is now charging normally. For kindle owners, do not let your device's battery run empty. That's what happened to mine.
Thank you. You gave me the answer. To revive lithium batteries just apply some heat and low voltage source. ;) it'll be up an running in less than five minutes.
@@AlanLarawalktheearth I stuck my kindle in the oven with the light on. 101F for 20 minutes. It turned on almost immediately when I plugged it in warm. It fucking worked!!!

Another satisfied customer here. Done all 3 things - changed charging cable, switched from power adapter to laptop USB port, and in 15 min intervals kept pressing for 40 seconds. Took me about 5-6 attempts and it came back to life! If I had not seen your video I would've just laughed at anyone suggesting this method... Thank you!
My husband had an old Kindle so I bought him a new one, as a Christmas gift. This was over 8 years ago! The second Kindle has been left, unused. I am trying to throw ‘stuff’ out. That old Kindle hasn’t worked for years. I tried your method and after 3 goes IT WORKS!!! He still doesn’t want it but now someone might want it. Thank you.
I don't usually comment on videos, but as skeptical as I was, this fix really worked. I tried it around 6 months ago, and it frustrated me to no end and I gave up. Today, I decided to try this fix again one last time before I bought a new kindle, and after around 7 tries of 40 second holds, the screen lit up. after your 5th time, you might get really frustrated, but it eventually works. Took me around 2 hours and 30 minutes today in total. Thanks for the fix!
THANK YOU! I honestly thought that I'd never be able to turn this on again. After almost 2 years of non-use - I was just going to e-cycle it, but thought I'd give it one more go. Your video was the first to keep me motivated to keep trying the reset - and amazingly enough - after 6-7 tries, and waiting about 15 minutes into my first 20 minute cycle, it started! 🎉
The self, same! My Kindle's been sitting dormant in my basement since... God, summer of 2019? Three years of non-use, and I was positive it was done (hell I was ready to order a batter replacement kit from NewPower99, for crying out loud), but after the first reboot attempt it fired back up! Thank God for TH-cam tutorials - now to find one on how to factory reset a Kindle.
I didn’t get an orange light when charging from wall socket but I changed the cable and plugged into laptop that was plugged into power socket and the orange light came on. I’ve had a few goes now at holding button down and now doing the first 20min charge and had some flickering so there are signs of life! If you haven’t already in the last months 😊 then maybe try switching cable and outlet!

I want to thank you, you saved me with your clear and simple explanation. as soon as I transferred my kindle to charge on my lap top and when I changed the charger I used, it took only 30 min to start charging again. for two days I had been using different wall chargers and waiting for hours, but nothing helped. I was a little desperate. your video is the first thing that was clear and fully explanatory. once again, thank you!

Brought my Kindle Paperwhite back to life. I rebooted a couple of times and then Kindle splash screen came on about 20 minutes into the charge. I haven't used it in several years. Found it easier to use Kindle on my iPhone.

The thing is that now it's back, if I let it charge a bit more it starts lowing the battery, but at least it's working again
This video was a big help. I’m probably one of the very fortunate ones here. I did the 40 second reboot twice, and then the load screen jumped on. Thanks!
Guys this worked for me! Tried it about 7-8 tumse and let it charge over night. Did it once in the morning and a few minutes later it was automatically on! Thank you so much! You're a lifesaver. Also guys this process takes a lot of time but it works. Be patient.
I had charged it overnight before finding your video, and had tried the restart button many times over the last 12 hours or so. finally switched cords and it rebooted within minutes. Which I probably would not have done without you saying to try it, so thanks!

This worked for me. My Kindle DX had been sitting for 4-5 years unused and had the critical battery screen. I put in a new battery but still couldn't get it to come alive. I had left it on a charger for about two days, did all the tricks and no results. After watching this I plugged the USB cable into my computer and left it there for a couple hours. OMG THIS WORKED. The orange light didn't even blink in the first 2 hours and I thought I could never read my fav kindle books, but THIS WORKS THANK YOU SO MUCH
By orange light didn’t blink do you mean it was not lighting up at all? Mine currently lights up for about 20 seconds before it turns off agajn and I’m not sure if it’s charging. Orange light does not stay on.
My kids' kindle did this after not being used for months. Charged it all day and still dis this. Plugged it into a wall socket with 3 different plugs, 3 different cords, 3-4 forty second reboots. Nothing was working. It wasn't until I plugged it into my laptop that it forced it to respond since my laptop wanted to scan it. It was dead-dead, so it took a couple minutes to get it to respond to the laptop. Thanks for the video! 🙏 It saves me a warranty return!
It really works on mine. I followed exactly as you said: Hard Reset + hard Thumb Rub on screen, around bezel, Front and back. Waalaa...My Kindle is revived...Thank you so very much
Thank you! Not only was I able to revive my Oasis, which I thought was dead, but I was also able to bring back a Paperwhite that had been in a drawer for over two years, which I also thought was dead. I sent back the new Kindle I had ordered which I didn't like anyway, not thrilled with the updates on the Oasis 10. You saved me over $200!
@Petr No, it wasn't just that the battery needed to be charged. It had a strange icon showing and wouldn't charge through the outlet. I assumed the Kindle was dead until I tried charging through the computer.
I struggled a lot to get the charging port replaced. The USB micro pins got broke while inserting the charger. Had to see youtube videos to understand how to dismantle the kindle. I had bought a hot air gun but was not hot enough to melt the port connections. Had to get someone else to remove it using a professional hot air gun. I then had to solder a fresh port. Initially I suspected the charging to have gone totally bad. Maybe I busted the device! I struggled for 4 hours. I had rebooted many times but to no avail. Until I came across your video and tried something different. When I connected the charge to may macbook pro then suddenly it booted. It saved my day!! Thank you for this video.
That worked for me, thanks! Mine sat on the charger overnight. The battery light was green but it still had the error icon. I tried the 40-second reset about 6 times, including once plugged into a laptop. Then after about 5 minutes plugged into the laptop, it reset itself just like yours did.
I have to jump into the praises! It totally works! I didn’t touch my Kindle for almost TWO YEARS people and i managed to turn it on following this video;i started charging on the laptop for three hours trying the restart button and finally i decided to switch to the socket and it started flashing and in 10minutes it turned on. I came on looking for battery replacement videos. Yours came up second. Decided to give this a try first. Did it once (40 seconds) unplugged. I had already tried charging it for long periods of time and hitting the on button for 40 seconds. That didn't work...so I let sit a couple of days before I tried to find another way to get it work. I even considered going to a battery store to replace the internal battery. Then I found your video. Once I plugged mine into my computer it turned on immediately and began charging. Thanks so much!
So many thanks. I was desperate as I thought it would. need a new battery, but I followed your tips and , like Lazarus, it came to life after the first 40 sec press. Wonderful!!
literally just had this happened to me this morning. My kindle wasn't dead but refused to open, it would only light up. Got the charging going through an outlet while trying to open or reboot it but nothing happened. Plugged it into my computer only for it to say low battery. Started working fine soon afterwards so thank you so much for this.
I tried every tutorial online and nothing worked. So i opened the kindle, disconnected the battery from the board for 72 hours then assemble the kindle again and put in the charge. It worked.
omg i can’t believe your tricks actually work! this was my first time owning a kindle so i was really scared i messed it up. so i think i left it charging for about 6 hours and when i woke up i realised i couldn’t turn it on. i did the 40-second trick like 2-3 times before connecting it to a desktop. then i tried it again according to the video. after a few minutes it switched on by itself. thank you so much for the video btw!
I left my charging over night and I only got it a few weeks ago! I’m heart broken and trying the tricks. I am praying so hard that mine turns back in because the Amazon website keeps saying my battery failed
@@mierlevine7366 it means that the charger has aborted the charge as the battery may no longer be capable of taking a charge and must be replaced. However try replacing the charger because it could be at fault, If the yellow light flashes after that ,you'll need to either replace the battery in your Kindle or the Kindle itself.
Been more than a year without using it,I was hopeless ! I followed your method and after plugging the kindle on my laptop for about 2hours, the device turned on by itself. 🙏 Thank you so much
I rarely like and comment on videos, but I needed to say thank you so much for this! Followed the steps and left it to charge via my laptop overnight and it works now! Left my kindle untouched for months so I was worried I had to say goodbye to it (I don’t stay in the US so returns/repairs by Amazon are not possible). Have a good day!
Thank you so much! I was unable to use my kindle for a few months now, trying everything. Your tip to hold 40sec and immediately plugging into the notebook worked at 1st try!
Thanks a lot for this video. I got really scared when my new kindle was all frozen and later with that weird battery icon, but your video was exactly on point! Thanks for emphasizing the need to wait and try again. Mine took like 20 minutos to come back to life and I would have stopped trying if not for the way you showed the process. Many many thanks! :)
Worked for me. Initially I thought it was hopeless, this method. While pressing, the screen was going from Batterry to blank and off to blank and lit, then back to batterry, each cycle about ten seconds. And as soon I released the button, back to Batterry. No chance, I thought. I watched other interesting stuff on YT, then glanced at the Kindle: it was rebooting!!! Thanks!!!
Worked for me on first attempt 👌🏻 I'm mostly thankful to you; but part of me was looking forward to buying a newer version 😄 Seriously: Many thanks, though!!
Yes it works. I had to do the step of holding for 14 secs for almost 10 times continuously, while it was on charging. It started in the end. Thank you!
Thanks, I'm going to give it a try. I left it charging for about 14 hours and it has the orange light and is locked with the battery on the screen. I plugged it into the pc and the pc does not recognize it but it charges with the orange light for hours and hours, but it does not turn on. I learned that I do not have to let it download completely but to connect it to the pc from time to time. With an older model of the Kindle I did not have this problem.
Thank you so much! Held it twice for 40 secs, nothing. Left it alone plugged in and it worked in about 60 seconds 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼! I don’t have a computer, I plugged it into a regular electric outlet.
You are a super hero without a cape, I borrow a kindle from a friend that did not use for years and this happened, I was freaking out and saw this and worked. THANK YOU
Thank you so much! It took me so many attempts and thanks to your video I didn’t give up! I’m wondering if it’s happening because I let the battery completely run out? Thinking I shouldn’t ignore the low battery warnings in the future!
Funcionó perfecto al tercer o cuarto intento. Llevaba 1 mes si usarse el kindle y quedó agotado, aún cargandolo horas no arrancaba hasta que probé lo del video.
Imagine how many kindles end up in the bin because people could not take a few minutes out of their day and think to search this on youtube. Thankyou! Got my kindle working, oddly it was already charged at 99%. Thought I spilt beer on it or something and the battery port was cooked. Turns out it's just stuck and needed a reset. Amazon should link to your video in their support.
It worked!! I had it charging for one night in one socket and did not work. I connected to the pc I tried to reboot twice and it did not work. I let it alone for 5-10’ and when back it was open on its own! I probably had completely out of charge for a couple of months and I was thinking to replace the battery, or the whole device. Let us, now, see how long will it last. Thanks!

After 1 year trying every 20min (including nights) perhaps is time to say goodbye.
It worked for me on the second attempt!! I tried the 40 seconds rule on power socket but it didn't work. I then unplug it and charge my kindle using MacBook, and tried to press the power button for 40s and it was rebooted instantly! Thank you
this is great. I was about to throw away my old kindle, thinking that battery has drained. Just by pressing power button for 40sec while charging through PC, it came back to life. thanks a lot
As explained in video using the cable which came with the Kindle plug it into a computer and leave it for an hour. I had the same issue. In AC outlet the orange light was not turning on.
ManyNamesAnnie I got mine to work... I found a TH-cam video that showed if you took the back covering off and disconnected the battery and the reconnected it the charging light would come on and it worked for me. It’s worth a try!
Might help to get a rapid charger instead of Amazon charger. Also/ otherwise try seeing if it'll charge through laptop or pc usb. Make sure the usb cable is the only kindle supplied ie: the thick one . Im having this problem now and it takes patience, oh my kindle just rebooted while writing! Don't misjudge the power of patience! And don't make mistake I made if letting it fully die the battery annnnd haha hold down the power button for 40 seconds. Where there's a will there's a way 😂 good luck!
Hey it worked. Charged it for almost 12 hours... Tried the power button a few times but nothing happened, changed the charger... Used a 65W charger for 10 min and tried again... It worked!!
Thank you for this video, it worked for me! I was using the kindle app on my iPad and foolishly forgot to charge my paperwhite periodically. Now that the beach season is upon us I need it so I can read outdoors.
Thank you so much. Mine Kindle was dead with the charge icon. I did the 40 seconds on and off for about 20 minutes then took the cable from my Kindle and replaced it, then did the 40 second button press and voila, success. Thanks again!
IT WORKS!!!! USE THE LAPTOP CHARGER, THAT'S THE KEY!! Ive used the socket charger for 4+ days and didnt work, 15mins with laptop charger and works again!! Marvelous
Keeping it plugged in the power socket wont turn it on.....i had it plugged in the power for 2 days also tried holding the 40 sec on button but nothing worked .....the trick is plug in to your computer it really works. thank you
Thank you very much. I was quite sure mine was charging (orange light, will also be recognized on the computer) but it still showed the charging sign. The important info here for me was to reset it TWICE in a row: First hold it down for about 40 seconds until the light completely disappears, then do the same thing again until the screen goes on. Did this on a Kindle 4 (I think. Old model with physical buttons on both sides but no keyboard) Thank you again.
I had to do it today, as my kindle was off for almost 4 years and it worked after 4 try in 4 hrs...I had to connect to laptop though as it was not working with wall outlet. thankyou so much for the video.
Your video is very instructive for rebooting my Kindle Oasis. I needed only to apply 3 rounds of holding down the power buttons for 40 seconds. I notice the screen flashing. Approximately in 3 minutes the home screen appeared with a battery charge of 14%. As I end my comments the battery is 25% and rising. Thank you very much for your public service.
Hi! Thanks for the video. Finally mine recovered from death after two days. I made a mistake trying to re-charge it using a converter from USB type C to USB micro... it didn´t work... I don´t know why... I does for other kind of devices but my Kindle. After my Kindle went live, I try again with the charger from USB Type C and didn´t charge. The video encouraged me to don´t give up. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg u are a lifesaver❤️. It worked for me . I just kept on charging using USB attached to laptap. I tried multiple attempts to reboot but didn't help. I just kept for charging and went to grocery store to bring some stuff and upon coming home I checked the kindle . The kindle name popped up.♥️😁 Thankyou❤️
Sadly only pushing the start button several times for 40 mins didn't help but after plugging my kindle into my laptop it took 4 attempts within 30 minutes and it started to work again! Thanks for the tips!! Really appreciated x

THANK YOU!!! This totally worked, patience is definitely key! Took me a couple of hours to get it going.
I charged for 6 hrs then tried turning it on, it didn't work. Then, found this video, tried the 40s press, it worked! Thanks!
Thanks! I charged it up and then held the power button for 40 seconds to reset it.
Hey karl
So many thanks. I was desperate as I thought it would. need a new battery, but I followed your tips and , like Lazarus, it came to life after the first 40 sec press. Wonderful!!
Holy crap this worked!!! Thank you! Mine hadn’t been charged for probably 3 years. And I want to use it by the pool this summer. 🎉🙌🏻
literally just had this happened to me this morning.
It worked.
We call that a hard reset
omg i can’t believe your tricks actually work! this was my first time owning a kindle so i was really scared i messed it up. so i think i left it charging for about 6 hours and when i woke up i realised i couldn’t turn it on.
i did the 40-second trick like 2-3 times before connecting it to a desktop. then i tried it again according to the video. after a few minutes it switched on by itself.
thank you so much for the video btw!
I left my charging over night and I only got it a few weeks ago! I’m heart broken and trying the tricks. I am praying so hard that mine turns back in because the Amazon website keeps saying my battery failed
Tried about 15 times! Resilience is the key! Thank you!
Does any one know what a flashing yellow light id
@@mierlevine7366 it means that the charger has aborted the charge as the battery may no longer be capable of taking a charge and must be replaced. However try replacing the charger because it could be at fault, If the yellow light flashes after that ,you'll need to either replace the battery in your Kindle or the Kindle itself.
Just plugged the cable into a power board after watching this video and the screen immediately changed. Thanks for the tips!
The most helpful video after so many crappy ones. 👏👏 Thank you so much!! It took about 4/5 times using your every 20 minutes method. Thanks again! 😍
Been more than a year without using it,I was hopeless ! I followed your method and after plugging the kindle on my laptop for about 2hours, the device turned on by itself. 🙏
Thank you so much
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
"Practice makes perfect."
Yes, that is why I did not think my kindle would restart but thanks to this video I kept trying and eventually it rebooted :-)
sometimes only insanity works!
Unless you're dealing with technology. Then that's par for the course.
This worked after I changed the cable, before the 20 minute was up. Thank you!
Thanks!!!
Worked for me on first attempt 👌🏻
I'm mostly thankful to you; but part of me was looking forward to buying a newer version 😄
Seriously: Many thanks, though!!
I honestly have never left a comment on TH-cam until today. Your tutorial saved me. May you have a wonderful day ahead, Sir!
Connecting to a laptop idea worked. It's starting to show Orange light now. Earlier, it was blinking while on charge. Fingers crossed.
Did it end up working?
U gonna leave us hanging like that
Thank you so much! Held it twice for 40 secs, nothing. Left it alone plugged in and it worked in about 60
seconds 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼! I don’t have a computer, I plugged it into a regular electric outlet.
Worked like magic! after about 8 rounds of restart and 20 minutes connected to the computer.
you saved my Kindle. Thank you so much!
You are a super hero without a cape, I borrow a kindle from a friend that did not use for years and this happened, I was freaking out and saw this and worked. THANK YOU
Thank you so much for this tutorial :) this is extremely helpful. I was going to let my Kindle rest in peace before I saw that.
I don’t ever think I have heard 40 SECONDS sound so soothing.😂
This guy has a very calming voice. Gonna see if any of this works.🗽🌀
Thank you so much! It took me so many attempts and thanks to your video I didn’t give up! I’m wondering if it’s happening because I let the battery completely run out? Thinking I shouldn’t ignore the low battery warnings in the future!
Plugging it into the computer instead of a wall charger is what made the difference! Thanks!
Thankyou this worked!I thought my Kindle is dead forever.. this is ❤️❤️
*Thank you.
It is not the same as in Urdu, in English it is two seperate words. You're welcome.
Dont know yet if it works, but thanks for a no nonsense informational video without all the usual screaming and begging. Subscribed!
Thank you it worked !!!
Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial - had my 'dead' kindle up and running after the third attempt - also learned a valuable life lesson!
this is great. I was about to throw away my old kindle, thinking that battery has drained. Just by pressing power button for 40sec while charging through PC, it came back to life. thanks a lot
You just have to press and hold the power button for 40 seconds.
Unbelievable, you revived my kindle that have been broken with this problem since 2020. So two years dead and now it's back!
Swapping the cord did the trick for me, and multiple holding for 40 seconds attempts.
IT WORKED !!! Thank you - I really thought my Kindle was at the end of its life.
Any suggestions if the orange light isn't coming on?
Me too😢
As explained in video using the cable which came with the Kindle plug it into a computer and leave it for an hour.
I had the same issue. In AC outlet the orange light was not turning on.
I lost count on how many times I had to do it because I was panicking haha. BUT IT WOOORKED! MY KINDLE IS ALIVE! THANK YOU!!!!!
Any ideas for if charging light isn’t coming on?
Did you find a solution? My kindle charging light isn't coming on either.
@@christinee3549 nothing.... i’ve given up and waiting for a sale to get a new one
ManyNamesAnnie I got mine to work... I found a TH-cam video that showed if you took the back covering off and disconnected the battery and the reconnected it the charging light would come on and it worked for me. It’s worth a try!
@@Christine8531 could you please send me the link pls ?
Thank you!! Just revived what I thought was a dead old school original kindle. Great video
My kindle doesn't charge, left it for hours still no orange light
Might help to get a rapid charger instead of Amazon charger. Also/ otherwise try seeing if it'll charge through laptop or pc usb. Make sure the usb cable is the only kindle supplied ie: the thick one . Im having this problem now and it takes patience, oh my kindle just rebooted while writing! Don't misjudge the power of patience! And don't make mistake I made if letting it fully die the battery annnnd haha hold down the power button for 40 seconds. Where there's a will there's a way 😂 good luck!
@@RutherfordNJDrywallRepair hahaha iam glad it worked out for you, i will follow your suggestion asap. Thank you very much!
Mine has no orange light also... did you ever get yours to work? If so, how? Thx in advance
@@brandonhaynes8812 nope, still doesn't work
Mine doesn't have an orange light too 😣 gonna try this out as well
Hey it worked.
I thought this was another fake video at first but then my kindle came back to life. Well done my friend well done.
IT WORKS!!!! USE THE LAPTOP CHARGER, THAT'S THE KEY!! Ive used the socket charger for 4+ days and didnt work, 15mins with laptop charger and works again!! Marvelous
this worked for me in 2024 with a kindle i got from a friend! thank you very much!!
Old model with physical buttons on both sides but no keyboard)
Thank you again.
Awesome, another website said I had to replace the battery. So glad I found this
Sadly only pushing the start button several times for 40 mins didn't help but after plugging my kindle into my laptop it took 4 attempts within 30 minutes and it started to work again! Thanks for the tips!! Really appreciated x
Broooooo you've gotta be kidding me!!!!
Thanks a million dude I tried the exact same steps that you told and I got it fixed in literally the first two steps thank you so much for saving my time and money on this!!!!!
