    Alan Wake, incredibly successful writer who has written like 6 critically acclaimed books in 7 years, alongside innumerous pages of text via an endlessly cyclical hellscape of shadow ONLY using two fingers to type hurts me so deep in my soul I can't reconcile it.

    • @daleluck
      @daleluck 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      To be fair, you ever typed on a typewriter? I don't think my pinky finger could manage the job like it does on a keyboard.

    • @charlesgray6385

      @@daleluck At least with the one I use to with the actuation pressure required, and high depth of press it meant they were a lot more tiring to type on than a modern keyboard. I miss the clackatity clack of them, but they were a pain in the arse by comparison to the fantastic keyboards we have nowadays.

      To be fair he’s been kinda holding back the darkness for like 10 years so he’s probably pretty tired and unconcerned with proper typing etiquette

      You try and type in the dark place and see how that goes, all the while the poet is berating nonsense at you while you try and work through the maze of your own mind. Dude has to concentrate to even have the keys manifest for him to even press for it to be real. It had to be real…

    40:30 I love this note. I don't think Pat noticed, but the text is written so that several lines from the Hiss incantation are naturally woven in.

    Man I love the amount of things from Alan wake 2 that show up in this trailer, like notes and other small things, even down to something I only just noticed but the fact that Hartman can’t actually see you in the light, like how it works in AW2 is so cool, though my favourite thing has to be the fact that even before the dlc came out they made reference to door with Dylan’s dream, I freaked out pretty hard when I realized that 😂😂😂

  • @Terithian

    Coming back to this again after having played Alan Wake 2, it's really fantastic just how many plot points for it they set up in this.

    Best part of the stream, other than Zangief peeing on everything and wrecking the place, is how often Pat just fucks up the launch skill with his impatience to actually target the object he wants to grab, It's priceless. Its a 4 hour video and you can probably make a good 1 hour montage of all the times he does it, including that great bit at 4:38:00 when he just screws himself totally.

    I find it funny people try to compare this to the SCP Foundation. I agree there are some baseline similarities, but only if looked at with a surface level understanding of the SCP setting. When you get into Control's writing its really more like Warehouse 13, The Librarian, A town called Eureka or other made for TV shows where powerful objects are being hidden away from the world. Although I suppose given the revelations in this DLC. I guess that makes sense.
    Edit: I didn't mean this as a bad thing. I like Warehouse 13 and similar shows. I just mean the writing style is different between SCP and Control. So comparing the two isn't really fair.

    The more likely answer for the whole Wake thing is
    Possible spoiler below------
    From what we DO know of the dark place. While it is very powerful the power has limits. Distance from the entrance or the lake we assume weakens the power especially against other powerful entities like Polaris or the board. Why do I say that?
    Wake may have written these things down however wake himself explained in his game the the power has to conform to a sense of balance in realty. Balance is the key. Thomas Zane was the first and primary example of the limits of the dark power. Trying to write something without a counter force to push the story forward leaves the ending open to the darkness to fill the gaps and ruin the artist.
    Rather than saying wake created the entire bureau as that would have required a MUCH larger counter balance than even the hiss considering the power involved inside. It is much more likely wake either found out about the Fbc somehow and started his influence in the ten years he spent in the dark place by shaping the hiss and causing Trench to be infected. Or a little more likely maybe the dark place influenced the past in subtle ways like making Zane a filmmaker rather than a poet and shaped little changes along the way. Jesse clearly hears the messages from Wake and we have seen that the present while going according to the narrative written can play out in many different ways since wake clearly cant write out every single little step or the plot would be too dense.
    Jesse had no reason not to want to help wake as dealing with these events is essentially her job. If anything the motel is all the proof you need that the dark place is not all powerful as it still shares space with the oldest house and the other awe doors.

      Control does have invincibility, as well as "1 hit to kill". It's under options where you toggle controls, way down. Remedy allows finetuning, like damage taken and weapon recharge.

  • @Secret_Takodachi
    @Secret_Takodachi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honestly Control is shallow. Like as shallow as a puddle.
    It abuses the concept of "small amounts of real information/details" to make its story & world appear abnormal and mysterious.
    Lovecraft used this to great effect (before it was abused to hell by modern story writers) by claiming creatures were so horrible they defied description while Control just provides notes with a paragraph or two that read like rejected SCP entries; they're all so short and rely on the [Redacted] trope so much that their mysterious objects are little more than floating TVs and magic killer refrigerators and that's it, theres nothing else to characterize them as abnormal objects with personalities despite the game repeatedly emphasizing this point in the main story so their most distinguishing feature is just the upgrade they give the player.
    Likewise, the characters in Control get a bit of backstory and that's pretty much the end of their characterization/background. Polaris is just a Deus Ex Machina plot device that's hinted to be more than it appears but then that plot thread is forgotten entirely when it comes to DLC in favor of more shallow content that, at its best; makes more vague suggestions that some characters aren't as "bad/good" as they appear BUT then that's left completely unfinished/incomplete. (Guess your bros just in a coma forever huh? Great conclusion for the primary motivation of a PC.
    It's like Remedy was so busy trying to make as many vagues implications about as many people as possible that they forgot to actually follow up on any of them in any meaningful way which makes it all pointless)
    The second you attempt to dive deeper into the lore to find anything beyond the superficial details about anything from O.o.Ps to A.W.Es you're confronted by the reality that this game is so devoid of depth that it's baffling to see so many people rave about the story.
    Similarly the combat is little more than "float around throwing objects & shooting hordes of fairly generic mobs with 1 gun that's basically a pistol, a shotgun or an SMG."
    All the stuff I described looks great in a trailer; so I'm sure the average idiot can be entertained by shallow stories. They don't think critically about what they're doing: they just like to bash the button and see a spooky surfboard.
    But if you're interested in a compelling narrative or an interesting universe to explore/understand then Control will leave you seriously underwhelmed. ALTERNATIVELY if you're ok with a mediocre story as long as the gunplay is good.....well to be completely fair it looks good... however the combat often boils down to spamming shots or powers without much thought and the enemies are just so goddamn forgettable.
    Visually this game is great, but that's where it starts & stops being a good game. By any other measure this game is nothing more than a litmus test to indicate which players are easily satisfied with pretty visuals alone vs. traditional aspects of a classic "good game" a.k.a well written story or interesting/engaging combat.
